The highlight of the day was a demonstraon by Iowa State University Beef Center's Marshall Ruble on teaching a calf to lead in 30 minutes or less! Youth also learned about "When to call your Vet" from Dr. Dan Berkland, Sibley Vet Clinic, "Cale Care and Comfort" by Gary Eckelberg, Ralco Nutrion, "Beefing Up Mealme" with ISUEO Nutrion and Health Specialist Holly Van Heel, and "Show Me the MOO-La" with 4-H Youth Development Specialist Lisa Berkland, Ashley Madsen, Kossuth County 4-H Outreach Educator and Beth Doran, ISUEO Beef Specialist. 2014 American Youth Horse Council Symposium March 21-23, 2014 Minneapolis, Minnesota
Do you love horses? Do you want to learn more about them and get
better both in the saddle and out? The American Youth Horse Council
offers a conference each year that moves around the United Sates. The
next conference is coming as close to us as it ever gets! Make plans to
attend now! They are even planning a demonstration with Icelandic
Horses!!
They will also feature many nationally and internationally respected
teachers and clinicians from across the Unite States.

Cattlemen Scholarship
The Kossuth Co. Cattlemen are offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors. The applicant must be a resident of Kossuth County, but may attend a high school out of the county. The applicant must also be enrolling in an ag-related field (very broad field) in college. Contact your school or the Extension Office for an application, which must be postmarked on or before March 3.
Veterinary Medicine 4-H Scholarships
The Lloyd, Inc. and Mahr Family 4-H Scholarships are open to former Iowa 4-H members who have been accepted to the ISU College of Veterinary Medicine..

Attention all 4-Her’s, grades 8-12! Come and experience the Iowa 4-H Conference held at ISU in Ames. You will be able to attend workshops and participate in community service or attend CSI- Crops, Shooting Sports or animal science round-up and choose various animals such as sheep, beef, dairy, horse or swine to study. Have fun in the evenings going to a formal banquet at Hilton Coliseum, dances, swimming, and a picnic. During the 3 day conference, experience dorm life and make new friends from across the state. If you have friends you would like to invite, 4-H enrollment not required – bring them along! Contact the office for more information. If you interview on March 23, we will pay half your fee
