The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a global framework for non-formal education, which challenges young people, aged 14-24 to dream big, celebrate their achievements and make a difference in their world. The Award has different categories to be completed like Service, Skill, Adventure and Sports. As the School provides all of the said facilities, the students complete the various levels of the award in school-time. Aviators from the age of fourteen have been very enthusiastic in carrying out the various verticals of Service, Skill, Adventure and Sports to fulfil the award criteria for the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Fifty students have been awarded with certificates and badges at the Silver
and Bronze level, recently.

WORLD WATER DAY – AQUA FEST: The Interact Club hosted the Aqua Fest on the 22nd of March. The members also went to Lachitville area for an Awareness Program about saving water.DUSTBIN DISTRIBUTION AT LACHITVILLE: On the 14th of March, the Interact Club educated the people in Lachitville regarding waste segregation. INTERACT DAY 2019: On the 4th of May AVS Interact Club hosted the INTERACT DAY CONFERENCE on the theme ‘An Empowered Youth of Global Tomorrow’ where AVS was declared as the Best Interact Club in Tezpur. Divyana Das and Sempisang Toy were awarded Best Interactors.
The School’s publication The Assam Valley Express, known more popularly by its acronym ‘AVE’, is run by the editorial team which is an eclectic mix of students brought together in their effort to discover the magnetic power of expression on paper, they focus on producing issues that inform and entertain in the same stroke. A close set, they metamorphose into a family even as they witness the growth in each other as writers and human beings. The team has published 28 dailies
and 4 Special Issues along with the annual Founders’ magazine.

The 3rd edition of All India Srijanyam Art & Design Fest was hosted at The Assam Valley School from the 16th to the 18th of July, 2019. The students from 11 schools showcased their art and design talent through competitions in Clay modelling, Thread Art, Pottery, Cartooning, Wood Carving, Glass Painting, Composition, Still Life, Portrait, Mandala Art, Face Painting, Outdoor Painting, Digital Design and Macrame. The Assam Valley School ‘Team A’ emerged as the overall winners and the Sunbeam School Varuna were Runners-up, for the fest.

CROCHETWORKSHOP
The crochet workshop was conducted by our Head of School, Ms. Sonya Ghandy Mehta, from the 2nd of March to the 5th of March, 2019. Crochet is a process of creating fabric by interlocking loops of
yarn, thread, or strands of other materials using a crochet hooks. Ms. Mehta shared her experience and the fascinating crochet designs with the students. During the workshop, the students learnt the various

crochet stitches such as the single crochet, the double crochet and the slip stitch.The children were happy to work on their individual projects with thread and wool. They made hairbands, bookmarks of different shapes and sizes and friendship bands. It was a wonderful experience for the students and we look forward to having more such workshops with Ma’am in the future.
