Millions more people may now be able to take advantage of the lucrative homebuyer tax credit. Legislation was signed into law last week extending the program through April 2010. Th e new rules provide for up to $8,000 in tax credits for buyers who haven’t owned a home for 3 years and $6,500 in tax credits for existing

homeowners who have owned their current home for at least 5 years. To qualify for the full amounts, p r o s p e c t i v e homebuyers will need to sign a purchase

agreement by April 30, 2010, need to close on their home by June 30, 2010, and earn less than $125,000 (single taxpayers) and $225,000 (married taxpayers) per year.
