Adriatic Salt Pans: an important resource for environment, economy, tourism and cultural heritage

Priority 2: Natural and cultural resources and risk preventionMeasure 2.2.: Natural and cultural heritage management and prevention of natural and technological risks; or Measure 2.4.: Sustainable tourism

Framework: The Town of Cervia is known, besides as important seaside resort, as ancient Salt Town. The “white gold” production, probably started in the Etruscan period, became very active from the 10th Century and had a strategic role in the social, urban and architectural development of the Town. A large number of towns and cities all over Europe and along the Adriatic coasts had similar historical and social experiences during the ages. Salt pans represent a very important resource not only for the environment, but also for the cultural and touristic development. They have to be considered a cultural and environmental resource of excellence.

Page 21: The European Territorial Co-operation Objective 2007-2013 cooperation experiences and new proposals Milano Marittima – Cervia, 28 th May 2010 European.

Adriatic Salt Pans: an important resource for environment, economy, tourism and cultural heritage

OBJECTIVES:The project aims therefore at promoting a cross-border cooperation for the protection

and valorisation of the Adriatic Salt pans, with the scope to develop and promote a new touristic offer linked to the salt production and its ancient culture and tradition

• To create a new touristic offer linked to the salt production and its traditions and culture;

• To create innovative tools to improve the touristic sustainable fruition of salt pans (i.e. using ecological/electric transports: boats, bikes, train,

etc…);• To prevent and efficaciously manage the anthropic and natural risks

affecting the fruition of salt pans;• To promote the touristic offer of towns and salt pans;

• To realize courses for “salt-workers”

Page 23: The European Territorial Co-operation Objective 2007-2013 cooperation experiences and new proposals Milano Marittima – Cervia, 28 th May 2010 European.

Theme: innovative promotion and fruition of routes dedicated to cultural tourism

POSSIBLE ACTIONS:To realize an innovative internet service for the promotion and fruition of routes

dedicated to cultural tourism or other urban services, by using combined technologies to serve two different levels of consultation information:

- Integrated Web platform with general contents (cultural, tourist, commercial, institutional, environmental, ....) and some multimedia stations placed in strategic points of the city.

- Pilot project for “smart guides” on palmtop. The "smart guides" through a specific navigation system allowing users to easily locate points of interest within an instrumented area. Thanks to the palmtop tourists receive an alert when they meet points of particular interest and the palmtop provide all information relating to the place. Tourists are not obliged to follow a predefined route but can move freely within the space facilities like in a real open air museum. The path can be made accessible also by Internet
