The Epiphany of the Lord January 4, 2014
~ REFLECTION ~
The Christmas season continues today with
our celebration of the
Epiphany. Matthew’s Gospel makes it clear that
even from the very beginning Jesus came to save
all people of the world. And so we have magi,
representing all the known world at the time,
making their way to Jesus’ humble birthplace.
Gathered as we are from many places, let us pray
in thanksgiving that God has seen fit to reach out
to all of us in love.
Some interesting details to ponder from our
readings today: Isaiah mentions only gold and
frankincense among the gifts that come from all
nations. It is Matthew who adds the gift of
myrrh—the symbol of the future passion and
death of the newborn Messiah. The magi must
consult the revelation of faith to find their way to
Bethlehem; their own means are not enough.
~ REFLEXION ~
muchos lugares diferentes, demos gracias a Dios
que se ha dignado amarnos a todos. He aquí algunos detalles interesantes a
“They prostrated themselves and did him homage.
Then they opened their treasures
and offered him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. ”

Tips for choosing safe toys for kids Millions of toys are out there, and hundreds of new ones hit the stores each year. Toys are supposed to be fun and are an important part of any child's development. But each year, scores of kids are treated in hospital emergency departments for toy-related injuries. Here are some general guidelines to keep in mind when toy-shopping: Toys made of fabric should be labeled as flame resistant or flame retardant. Stuffed toys should be washable. Painted toys should be covered with lead-free paint. Art materials should say nontoxic. Crayons and paints should say ASTM D-4236 on the package, which means that they've been evaluated by the American Society for Testing and Materials. For more information, please visit www.kidshealth.org.
