The primary goal of the Urban EnvironmentalDesign Program is to create a distinctiveand memorable image and sense of place

or the Energy Corridor. The District workswith public agencies to enhance the EnergyCorridors streets, highways, parks, and natural

areas to create a unique and marketabledentity.

Transforming the District into a compact

pedestrian and bicycle friendly place isparamount to establishing it as a quality placehat will attract new investment. A quality

environment is safe, convenient and beautiful

with a wide range of transportation options. We work towards developing and promotingdesign guidelines for wider sidewalks, a

canopy of street trees, unique signs, community art, healthy esplanades, enhance

landscape, and an expanded park system. Ware creating a community that is even moreenjoyable by planting trees along roadways

and in parks, and installing new street

furniture such as benches, tables, and chairsin gathering and resting areas for the comfoand convenience of pedestrians. Another on

of our goals is to improve the energy grid thservices the District.

Perhaps our biggest idea is the proposed Li

able Centers Bridge over IH-10. Spanning ov24 lanes of highway, this structure would belined with unique building space that enclosa shared space passage for pedestrians,

bicycles and transit vehicles. The center ofthe bridge is envisioned as an open plaza thwould accommodate special events.
