The effect of Rheum emodi on wound healing was assessed in three age groups of
rabbits. Following conclusion can be drawn from the present study.
Rheum emodi can activate wound healing process for early and fast healing.
It shows a strong pro-healing potential as it induces excessive accumulation of
hydroxyproline, glucosamine, protein and DNA to the wound site and thus
triggering early wound closure.
Rheum emodi enhances the expression of wound healing genes thereby triggers
the pro-healing convergence pathway.
The group A and group B treated animals showed significant wound contraction,
increased accumulation of hydroxyproline, glucosamine, protein, DNA and
enhanced expression of Ccr1, EGF, K6 and Egr-1 in both treated and control
wounds. This increased accumulation of chemical constituents and enhanced
expression of wound healing genes may also be attributed to the younger age of
group A and group B animals apart from Rheum emodi.
