There is no way to contain

my excitement for the coming season sched-ules that are being presented by various arts organizations in Panama City and Panama City Beach, Florida. It is as if the community arts leaders all got together around a huge crock pot to cook up for

us citizenry a heaping dish of humorous aphrodisiac to digest. After all, what better receipt for love then laugh-ter in the summertime? So when you get all dressed up to go out for dinner and a show this upcoming season be prepared for the unusual - and don’t forget to bring your appetite for humor.

It all begins with Kalei-doscope Theatre’s 42nd Season. At a recent lunch-in Linda Hawk, Kaleidoscope Theatre’s Publicity Chair deemed it, “A Kaleido-scope of Comedy”. Their 42nd Season consists of six

comedies, all of which deal in finding (and keeping) that sometimes elusive and often unexpected significant other. Be sure to catch every show at Kaleidoscope Theatre this season. They start off in August with “All the King’s Women”, a telling of Elvis Presley’s life through the women whose lives he touched.

This month, visitors to The Palms Conference Center on Panama City Beach can view a series of exhibitions that showcase our area art-ists. The Beach Art Group has partnered with the conference center to present their first two exhibitions - “Celebrate Summer”, which opened July 2nd and runs through August 25th, fol-lowed by “Thunder Beach”. Look for more on the Beach Art Group and this series of exhibitions in the weeks to come.

That should get you started off with plans for events to attend this week and set you in the right direction for the beginning of show season. We are doubly blessed to live in a dual city, one that depends on visitors during the Spring and Summer but holds its own in cultural di-versity during the shift into Winter. -Enjoy!

It was nearing lunch time and I got a text from my mom about getting together. She wanted

to know where there would be a good place to meet up for lunch. I finished up a meeting with a client and suggested we revisit a little family-owned restaurant in the business district of Panama City. Millie’s is located on Harrison Avenue in the bottom front section of the Sherman Arcade Building. This space has changed ownership several times in the last couple of years. The current occupants run a casual family friendly establish-ment with a festive New Orleans-style theme.

We arrived to a dining room that was squeaky clean and had neatly

set tables. Millie’s is a smaller restau-rant only seating

about 25-30 people inside but they do have outdoor seating as well. There is a lively air about the restaurant due mostly to the famous purple, gold, and green colors of Mardi Gra décor. Once we sat down, the waitress walked up right away with little time for introductions and asked us for our drink order. After a few more mo-ments of catch up conversation we had a moment look at the restau-rant’s new menu.

We all decided to choose from the daily specials menu since they were the more reasonably priced and the lighter items. Two fried Grouper strip baskets, one with fries the other with Cole Slaw and

a Grilled Chicken Wrap with fries. It wasn’t long, approximately 15-20mins, before our food was sitting in front of us. We filled the time catching up and talking about the local town leadership but when our food arrived, it was really down to business of eating. The Grilled Chicken Wrap was excellent with a side of crispy fries. The ladies both ordered the Fried Grouper Strips and unfortu-nately the Cole Slaw on one was replaced with a handful of crispy fries. Guess the cook didn’t get the memo. It all worked out well though, and we did enjoy the tasty Grouper fried in tender strips and the Grill Chicken’s juicy flavors. We’ll be back again for another dine-in experi-ence at Millie’s.
