Arable farming

Dryland farming• Dryland farmers

don’t usually water their crops.

• Dryland farmers need large fields to grow lots of plants.

Irrigated farming• Farmers use

irrigation systems to water their crops.

• Farmers can use irrigation to grow lots of crops in small fields.

Livestock farming

• Livestock farming is the raising of animals for food products such as meat , milk and eggs , and non-food products , such as wool and leather.

• Bovine : cows , bulls and oxen.• Porcine : pigs.• Ovine : sheep.• Caprine : goats.• Avian : birds.

Fishing

• Fishing is the catching of fish and other aquatic animals for food.

• There are two types marine fishing.• Coastal fishing : takes place near the coast.

Use small boats and traditional methods, they return to port at the end of the day.

• Deep-sea fishing : takes place far from the coast. They work for weeks or months on large boats.

Mining

• Mining is the extraction of rocks and minerals from the ground.

• Forestry is the exploitation of forests to extract plant products such as wood , cork , cellulose and resin.

Energy sources

• Some energy comes from renewable sources , such as sunlight , water or wind.

• Some energy comes from non-renewable sources , such as coal , oil , natural gas and nuclear energy.

The service sector

• This sector of the economy includes various areas , such as commerce , tourism , transport and communications.

• Health and education as doctors , nurses , dentists and teachers.

• Public safety as police officers , firefighters , soldiers and security guards

• Skilled professions : as mechanics, plumbers and electricians.

• Administrative work as secretaries , bank clerks and public servants.

• Cultural proffessions as writers musicians , actors , painters and sculptors.

• Judicial system : as lawyers , prosectors and judges.

• It is the business of buying and selling products and services.

• We can use different types of transport to move passengers and goods from one place to another.

• Interpersonal communications media : let us send information to one person at a time.

• Mass communication media : let us send information to many people at once,like newspaper , radio and television.

• Computers : technology has given us new ways to communicate with each other like internet or email.
