Welcome To Season 2013/14!!Its finally here!!

After our most successfulVSDCA season ever, we wereall chomping at the bit to getstarted again in season 2013/14and go one step further in allgrades.

We held our Presentation Nightin April 2013, with the venueshifting to the Chifley Hotel inEummemmering for the firsttime. The night was a hugesuccess, with nearly 100 people

attending, giving us one of ourbiggest crowds to aPresentation Night in recenthistory.

Congratulations to all recipientsof awards on the night, especially to old man RichieSaniga, who in the twilight of hiscareer (perhaps) managed theclean sweep in the 1s, takingout the Batting, Bowling and

MVP awards! Good stuff by theold timer! All winners are on ourwebsite, and the link is later onin the newsletter.

The Annual General Meetingwas held in late June, with theCommittee being voted in again.Congratulations to DarrenGoodson, who was voted in asPresident for another season.Darren has done an excellent

job during his tenure and welook forward to progress as acricket club under hisleadership. He will be supportedby Vice Presidents GaryParsons and Henry Vettivelu.David Anning was voted in asSecretary and Treasurer oncemore, as he continues toperform an admirable job inrunning the Club. The rest of thevoted in Committee, includingsome new faces, are revealed

    later in this edition.

Pre-season started for the Clubin July, with Eastern Indoorhosting our Club again. We hadsome excellent numbers, especially from the juniors, andits great to see a number of newfaces, both Seniors and Juniorsat the Club!

We like to welcome SeanGrabert and Nick McKay, whoboth come with experience andtalent, and both will be pushingto play 1s this season. We alsowelcome all our new juniors

who have come across and willnot only strengthen our Juniorsbut push hard for selection inSeniors as well.

As is standard in Melbourne, itappears Week 1 of Round 1 willbe washed out again, however,we start the season preparedfor a big tilt at the finals acrossall 4 teams.

    Our 1st

XI will be led once moreby Matthew Hutchinson andsupported by Shean Vanderwertand Richie Saniga. The 2nd XIwill be led by DhushanRanasinghe, who led theinexperienced team admirablydespite the setbacks. The 3rd XIwill have a new captain after theretirement of stalwart and futureLife Member Tom Hollis, withTommy Humphries taking overthe 3s. A big step for Tommy ashe will lead a talented butinexperienced team into whatwill hopefully be a successfulfinals series. And of course, ourresident 4th XI captain PaulKirchner will take the reigns ofthe 4s once more, as they lookto go back-to-back!

Our first function for the seasonis on Friday, October 4 atSydney Pargeter Reserve. Thisis our official Season Launchhowever we have also extendedthe function to all our PastPlayers, who are welcome toattend the night. It would befantastic to see some of the oldfaces, especially with the newlyrenovated Clubrooms and thenew Honour Boards which

should be unveiled on the night. We look forward to seeing youall there!

Finally, as you may havenoticed, The Eagle Eye hasundergone a change in design. We feel this design will be morecleaner and easier to read andnavigate. As usual, all feedbackand comments is openlywelcome.

As the season gets into fullswing, we will have more funand exciting items for thenewsletter.

    FANTASY LEAGUE!

This season were excited to announce

that we will be launching our very own

    Cricket Fantasy League!

More details will follow but to give a

brief description for all of you:

There will be approx 10-12 teams inthe league (depending on final

    playing numbers)

Teams will be chosen at random,

and will contain 11 players per team

Players will be allocated into groups

    depending on their usual playing

    position (e.g. 1st XI Batsmen, 1st XI

    Bowlers, 2nd XI Batsman, U17/1s,

    U15/2s etc)

Each team will have one player

    from each group

A Points system will be created to

judge the scoring, and a weighting

system will be implemented as well.

The League will begin at the start of

Round 2 and run right through the

    season

Before the last round, the top 2

teams will play off in a T20 for the1st prize (to be determined)

    The Fantasy League will be

    designed to encourage the Senior

players to get behind the Juniors in

their team, and the Juniors to get

behind the Seniors in their team.

Final details will be provided on

Selection night before Round 1, andwill be in the next newsletter, on our

    website and our Facebook page.

The league will be run by Tom Hollis,

Brett Kirchner and Henry Vettivelu. Any

questions or queries please ask one of

    them.

    PLAYER AUCTION!

    Another exciting addition this

season is the introduction of a

    Player Auction for season

    2013/14!!

The auction will take place at the

    Season Launch on Friday October

    4.

    Anyone will have the opportunity

to purchase a Player through the

    Auction by bidding on them.

    Throughout the season, the player

    will gain points for their

    performances (and even lose

    points for certain indiscretions as

    well!!).

At the end of the season, the

player who has the most points

will be the winner, and the person

    who purchased that player will

    receive their winnings!

    (Prizes will be determined after

the Auction, depending on howmuch we raised)

    Spread the word!!!!

    Any questions, please ask Tom,

    Brett or Henry.

    PLAYER SPONSORS AND

    CLUB SPONSORS!

    If you have your own

    sponsor who would like to

    sponsor you for the year,

    please ask Paul Kirchner for

    a Player Sponsor form to

    provide to your sponsor.

    The minimum amount for a

    Player Sponsor is $350,

which can be used to pay

    your fees for the year.

    Anything additional can be

donated to the Club to assist

    with getting your photo and

    sponsor details up aroundthe Club.

    We are always on the

    lookout for any sponsors

who would like to develop a

    relationship with the Club.

Big or small, any industry, if

    you know a sponsor who

    may be interested, please

    contact Henry Vettivelu for a

    sponsorship package to

    pass onto them.
