Farmers raised livestock in the Great Plains until

the need for grain came, because of World War I. The farmers would make a lot more money raising

grain.

The dust got so bad that people had to wear face mask so that they would not breath it in.

The government realized the Great Plains had a serious problem. The Soil Conservation Service was set-

farmers affected by the Dust Bowl disaster.
