The Dornier or DO335 Pfeil was the fastest piston
fighter jet of WWII, but fortunately for our bomber
pilots, it arrived too little and too late to be an
effective deterrent to Allied bombing campaign.

There were several versions of this plane tested and
projected, including a Hybrid with piston engine in
the front and a turbine in the rear, the DO 535, and
a long range bomber and observation version that
included a twin fuselage version to be called the DO
635.
That is the subject of this build.
Radio control models of the DO 335 are relatively
rare, so when I found the balsa and built up version
of the DO 335 at Vmar

I was all in, particularly at a reasonable price that
still allowed simple transport.

Preparation
First a plastic model was constructed to actually see
what I might be getting into.
This was, as I was to find out, the simple part!

One starts with an innocent balsa built up ARF
model

After studying projected designs for the plane, as
17” aerodynamic center section was decided upon,
with the obligatory center landing gear for support,
as the German design team specified.
Note; this modification means that the original
dihedral spar must be remanufactured to ½ of the
original angle. The center section is straight, but at
the same aerodynamic design as the wings.

The end result at 65” wing span, four ESCs, four
motors, two normal and two counter rotating
propellers, 9 metal gear micros servos, a handful of
Y connectors, extensions, both for the radio and
electrical and so on.
Two hours to adjust all the linkage to match, what is
basically two airplanes.
I recovered the plane to make it more camouflaged
as it might have been in WW II.
