Each sponsoring organisation can add their own unique non-branded design to the model elephants and display them in shop fronts, busi-ness foyers, shopping malls or other publicly accessible locations for the Elephant Safari trails which take place from July 25, until August 31, 2015, one in the town centre and the other within the nearby coun-tryside.
The unique model elephants are to be auctioned following the event and proceeds from the event will be divided across all participating charities as well as international wildlife organisation, the Born Free Foundation which was established over 30 years ago by local actress Virginia McKenna OBE.
Horsham Rotary Club's John Le Rossignol said: “We’re really ex-cited to be bringing fantastic art
and family fun to the town through Horsham’s Elephantastic Safa-ri trails. The giraff e trail in 2013 created a great sense of commu-nity spirit and attracted well over 12,000 people. With far bigger trails planned for this year, we can only imagine its popularity and success from which many important chari-ties are set to benefi t.”
The elephants can be decorated by sponsoring organisation and charities in-house or outsourced to local artists or schools and commu-nity groups.
For more details about how to purchase an elephant or informa-tion regarding the elephant safari trails and charities, please email: [email protected].
Charities operating in the Horsh-am area who wish to participate in the event, and artists who are pre-pared to use their talents to paint an elephant should also register with Horsham Rotary Club before the end of April.
Warnham meeting on village future

Like so many parishes in West Sussex, Warnham sets about the task of engaging with residents to gather their views on a multitude of topics so that a vision can be set for years to come.

Liberty Property Trust is bringing forward plans for Land North of Horsham – a mixed-use and sustainable development providing around 2,500 private and affordable homes supported by jobs, schools, amenities and the necessary infrastructure and utilities.
Our top priority will be to make North of Horsham a great place to live, work and play. We are long-term investors and we will have a stake in the future success of the new community. From building design and landscaping, to public art and high quality sports facilities, we go the extra mile and, where we can, choose to go above and beyond the normal planning requirements.
Liberty is a masterplan developer and will be making an outline planning application for North of Horsham later this summer. We want the local community to help shape our plans by telling us about their priorities for the town.
We are holding a public exhibition to display our draft plans and outline the opportunities that North of Horsham can provide. Our experts will be on hand to answer questions, listen to comments and take a note of concerns. We will use the feedback we receive to help finalise our plans.
Information that is on display at the exhibition will also be available from 12pm on Friday 17 April at: www.landnorthofhorsham.co.uk.
About North of Horsham
North of Horsham has been included in the emerging Horsham District Planning Framework (HDPF) – the Council’s strategic vision for the area.
The HDPF was reviewed by the Government’s Planning Inspector at the end of last year and he endorsed the Council’s decision to include North of Horsham, acknowledging it as a sustainable location for new homes, jobs, social and community facilities.
The Council is currently consulting on final housing numbers to meet the Planning Inspector’s requirements, before adopting the HDPF later this year.

The fundraising drive was spear-headed by Jemima Nash and Har-riet Page, both 11, and 10-year-old Tegan Poole after two of their friends were airlifted.
They held a cake sale, Name the Puppy contest, bike ride and mar-ket boot sale and raised a grand to-tal of £1,013 in just two months.

Horsham Churches Together will host a meeting of all eight Gen-eral Election candidates who have accepted an invitation to answer questions that reflect the particu-lar concerns of the local Christian community.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 22, at 7pm at Kingdom Faith Church, Foundry Lane, Horsham.
Ian Fletcher – Horsham Churches Together coordinator – is “delight-ed that the local candidates have accepted our invitation. Often the voices of the churches go unheard, or perhaps they are heard and are not seen as relevant. We are grateful
that all eight of the local candidates have offered to attend our meeting to answer questions that have been asked by the churches in Horsham. We hope that the candidates will be able to answer our questions on social and environmental issues as well as broader issues relating the United Kingdom’s relationship with the international community.
This is a rare opportunity to meet the candidates and we hope that many of the local Christian com-munity will attend, but this is not a closed meeting and all those who take an interest in the General Elec-tion as it affects Horsham will be welcome.

New Digital legacy service from Horsham, The Soldier’s Box are pitching for a share of Richard Branson’s £1 million marketing fund.
Virgin Media have launched their 2015 Pitch to Rich competition this year, giving entrepreneurs around the UK the chance to share in a £1 million prize fund to take their business to the next level.
On the Pitch to Rich 2015 website, Richard Branson states “What is a business? It’s simply an idea that makes someone else’s life better”.
When Darren Richmond from Horsham in West Sussex shared his digital Soldier’s Box idea with two
lifelong school friends, his inten-tion was exactly that. To create a solution to a problem that aff ects each and every one of us. What happens to our digital world when we are no longer around to take care of it? How will those left behind ac-cess important services, open fi les and view digital photos and videos of loved ones?
The modern day digital version of the Soldier’s Box was developed on the back of a common practice that started in the First World War. Sol-dier’s would often keep their most important documents and treas-ured possessions in small tins or boxes for safe keeping. In the event
of their death, their boxes would be passed to loved ones. These boxes fi lled with their possessions pro-vided great comfort to bereaved families off ering emotional and practical support at a diffi cult time.
The modern day Soldier’s Box provides an online storage box where someone can store all their most important digital possessions, including photos, videos, docu-ments, passwords, personal mes-sages and dying wishes. The Sol-dier’s Box includes a highly secure yet simple mechanism to pass the contents of the box to a trustee and unlimited benefi ciaries. With over a year in development and testing,
the Soldier’s Box is due to launch this summer.
Darren Richmond, founder of The Soldier’s Box, comments: “We be-lieve we have created a service that will make a diff erence to people’s lives. Winning the Pitch to Rich 2015 competition would mean the world to us. It will provide us with the vital funds we need to spread awareness of The Soldier’s Box when it launches.”The Soldier’s Box has entered the competition in the ‘Grow’ category. The idea has been designed, developed, market tested and will launch this summer. Anyone over the age of 18 can get a Soldier’s Box and a 14 day free trial will be available from launch. An
annual subscription to The Soldier’s Box costs £36 for 1GB of online stor-age space including the trustee and benefi ciary process set up. The Sol-dier’s Box are currently off ering a 20% discount those who register on the website from today. Votes for the Pitch to Rich 2015 competition can be cast until the closing date of 5th May 2015.

Christ’s Hospital’s Year 11 pupils, who have been studying Helen Dunmore’s ‘The Siege’ for their iGCSE English Literature exam, had a very special visitor – the Or-ange Prize-winning author her-self, who came to speak to the pu-pils about the book on Thursday, March 26.
In the fi rst part of her talk she discussed how an author research-es and develops a historical novel like ‘The Siege’ and explained why in her view historical fi ction is so important as a way of understand-ing the present. She used, as an example, the feel-
ings many Russians have about the ‘Great Patriotic War’ and how un-derstanding these helps us to un-derstand what is happening in Rus-sia today.
Helen Dunmore then took a se-ries of questions from the fl oor. She had already emphasised that once a book is created it ‘belongs’ to the readers, and that pupils should feel confi dent and determined to read the book and to respond to it in their own way. To the pleasure of their English teachers, who share the same philosophy, the pupils showed in their fresh and interest-ing questions, that this particular book now be-longed to them.

Farlington Prep School held its fi rst Grandparents’ Afternoon at the end of last term. The idea was to welcome grandparents, along with friends, relatives and god-parents to tour the School with the girls.
The afternoon began with a rapid turnaround, sweeping lunch things away and setting up for around 70 visitors. A brief welcome was fol-lowed by refreshments and then the visitors settled to enjoy a short concert. Farlington Prep girls rose
to the challenge with choirs and the cast of ‘Annie’ singing with gusto. There were some fabulous harp, oboe and fl ute pieces per-formed too, all showcasing the confi dence with which our girls share their considerable musical talents, under the excellent guid-ance of Mrs Thomas and Mr Dal-limore.
A sunny spring afternoon add-ed to the buzz, as girls led their grandparents to their favourite parts of the School: the Forest
School area being a fi rm favourite with our younger pupils.
Family values are closely held by our happy and vibrant community and it seemed very fi tting to re-serve this special occasion for our grandparents, to thank them for their interest in the School and, of course, for the wonderful part that they play in the girls’ education.
Grandparents’ Afternoon was a wonderful success and as usual this was down to a marvellous team eff ort.

Residents in West Sussex are be-ing encouraged to search a new online database for ancestors who may have gone to school in the County.
The admission registers from around 100 local schools, most of which date from the 1870s to 1914, have been digitised and indexed by the family history website Find My Past.
The registers vary in the level of detail they provide, but usu-ally record a child’s name and date of birth, date of admission, fa-ther’s name and address, previous school, and date of leaving.
They often record why a child
left school, with common entries being 'left the parish' or 'gone to Brighton'. But they also record when a child started work, went into domestic service or ‘left to help mother’. Or they may simply say ‘age’, which indicates that the child had reached the school leav-ing age of 14.
Matthew Jones, Assistant Coun-ty Archivist, said: “This will be a fantastic resource for people who want to find out more about their West Sussex ancestors. The re-cords themselves are quite fragile so having access to digital copies will help us to preserve the origi-nals for years to come. But it will
also mean that they’re available to a worldwide audience and enable family historians to search all of the admission registers simulta-neously.”
Anyone can access the admis-sion registers, either by subscrib-ing to Find My Past or by visit-ing West Sussex Record Office in Chichester where the subscription website is available free of charge.
To find out more, contact the Re-cord Office on 01243 753602 or visit Orchard Street, Chichester, PO19 1DD. Alternatively, visit www.westsussex.gov.uk/ro where you can also find out what other school records are available.

Lake District adventure for Horsham Air Cadets
Five Air Cadets and a member of staff from Horsham Air Cadets have enjoyed an action packed week of adventure training in the Lake Dis-trict.
The group were joined by other members of Sussex Wing for the annual training week which saw ca-dets take part in activities such as mountain walking, canoeing, kay-aking, climbing and abseiling.
Cadets utilised accommodation at the Air Cadet Adventure Training Centre in Windermere which was their base for the week.
Teamwork and leadership was not only tested on the hills but also working in the Centre in group tasks including cooking, washing, making lunches and cleaning. This week long course is quite difficult to get a place on, as there are only 30 spaces for the whole of the Sussex area.
Two Horsham Air Cadets, Finlay Collins (15) and Thomas Footitt (15) ended the week by climbing Scafell Pike, the highest point in England at 978m high led by an experienced

Steyning is looking forward to welcoming a little bit of Italy to their High Street on Sunday, April 19, 2015.
An Italian market is coming to town, offering products ranging from meats, cheeses, olives, pasta, olive oil, focaccia and much more.
In fact, the ‘much more’ includes a range of Italian leather hand-bags. No need to cross the channel, just jump in your car and head for
Steyning. Authentic, enthusiastic Italian stall holders will be ready to share their infinite knowledge of their homeland food with you and Euros are not needed. The market starts at 10am.
This is the second time Steyn-ing has hosted this event, which is run successful at many venues throughout the country. The Italia in Piazza mission is to share their passion for food with you.

On Saturday, March 28, a new Scout District was formed in Horsham. For 20 years Scouts across the area have been organised in two Scout Districts (Horsham Weald and Hor-sham West), but from now on there will only be Horsham Scouts.
In confirming the formation of the new District, Irene Orford, County Commissioner for West Sus-sex Scouts, said that this was a new chapter for Scouting in Horsham.
The 19 Scout Groups and 10 Explor-er Scout Units have the opportunity of working together to increase the opportunities for the young people of the town and surrounding villages to experience the fun and personal de-velopment that comes through being a Scout. Peter Scofield was appointed as the District Commissioner for the new District supported by Anthony
Smith as the Chairman.Peter Scofield said in accepting the
appointment that the challenge for the new District is to enable more young people to join. There are cur-rently over 1800 children, young people and adults involved, but there are many who cannot join. This can only change when more adults vol-unteer as supporters and leaders.
The weekend before the District formation, Horsham Scouts were out in force in Swan Walk and the Carfax speaking with members of the public about the everyday adventure scout-ing can offer to both young people and adults. For many adults working to develop young people and prepare them for the future is their time to shine and putting volunteering in their CVs can make all the difference to their own careers and employ-
ment prospects too. Many Explorer Scouts and Young
Leaders were out and about in the town. They enjoyed the chance to tell others about their personal experi-ence of Scouting.
Eve Chatham Explorer Scout and Young Leader said: “I think having the scouts about, actively seeking adults to help keep troops and units going really brought together the family nature of the Scout Movement which I think really helped get peo-ple to notice and consider joining the movement.”
Another Young Leader, Adam San-dle said: “It was a great chance to introduce more adults into scout-ing and demonstrate the diversity of scouting and range of experience scouting offers.”
Alan Scofield, Explorer Scout Lead-er said: “It was great to see our al-ready diverse youth and adult mem-bers coming together to promote the Scout Movement and using their knowledge and enthusiasm to en-gage with potential future leaders.”
The event engaged with adults and helped them understand the op-portunities for them, but of course lots of young people dropped in to the pop up shop in Swan Walk. They were able to get an idea of the activi-ties that can be available, canoeing, caving, camping, shooting and more.

The case of Wyatt v Vince – can an ex-wife really claim £1.9m 30 years after a legal separation?Hana KhodabocusSolicitor, Family Department, stevensdrake
On March 11, 2015, Kathleen Wyatt was granted permission by the Su-preme Court to continue with her application for a fi nancial order against her former husband, Dale Vince. At a fi rst glance, these facts do not appear to be exceptional; however it is the background to the case that makes it highly unusual.
BackgroundMs Wyatt and Mr Dale met whilst at
university in 1981 and married short-ly afterwards. They had one child to-gether and Ms Wyatt also had a child from a former relationship who was accepted as part of their family.
During their marriage, the parties lived meagrely, surviving on benefi ts. They separated after a short marriage in 1983, and both parties moved on with new partners, Ms Dale going on to have two more children. Their di-vorce was fi nalised in 1992.
In the late 1990s, Mr Dale started a green energy business called Ecotric-ity, which gradually became success-ful and today is estimated to be worth around £57m. In contrast, Ms Wyatt continued to struggle fi nancially.
Proceedings to dateIn 2011, Ms Wyatt issued an ap-
plication to start fi nancial remedy proceedings against Mr Dale and was seeking a £1.9m lump sum. Mr Dale in turn applied to strike out her ap-plication on the ground that there was no reasonable prospect of it suc-ceeding.
At fi rst instance, the district judge dismissed Mr Dale’s application, which he sought to appeal. The Court of Appeal overturned the fi rst deci-sion, which led to Ms Wyatt appeal-ing to the Supreme Court. The Su-preme Court has now unanimously ruled in her favour by allowing her appeal.
Ms Wyatt will need to return to the High Court in order to proceed with her original application.
In response to the Supreme Court’s judgment, Mr Dale said: “I feel we all have the right not to be looking over our shoulders. This could signal open season for people who had brief re-lationships a quarter of a century ago…”
OpinionIt is unlikely that Ms Wyatt will
receive £1.9m that she is claiming on the basis that her application for fi nancial relief was made after con-siderable delay and the fact that the marriage itself was of a short dura-tion. However, the Supreme Court did consider that she had made a sig-nifi cant contribution to the welfare of the family by looking after their chil-dren, and such a contribution should not be confi ned to any particular time period i.e. during the marriage or pri-or to separation. For this reason, the court concluded that a fi nancial order for a modest lump sum to help Ms Wyatt re-house herself comfortably may possibly be justifi ed.
This case has set a precedent in that the court chose not to close the door on a fi nancial application made after a very lengthy period of separa-
tion between the parties. However, this case is highly fact-specifi c, not least because of the 30 year separa-tion between the parties that pre-ceded Ms Wyatt’s application, and the great fortune amassed by Mr Dale since their divorce. It is therefore highly unlikely that similar cases will be heard in the lower courts through-out the country.
Notwithstanding this, the case
highlights the importance of resolv-ing fi nancial issues at the same time as a divorce. As demonstrated by the parties in this case, a failure to do so will mean that fi nancial claims can still be made by former spouses re-gardless of how long ago their divorce was fi nalised.
Indeed, whatever the outcome of this case, both Ms Wyatt and Mr Dale will incur massive legal costs which
could have been avoided had proper advice been sought at the time of their separation.
For more information about this article, or for advice on divorce and the associated fi nancial settlement, please contact Hana Khodabocus on 01293 596959 or Peter Alison on 01293 596935.

Midge Ure coming to The Capitol
In 1995, Midge delivered his fourth solo album, Breathe, to BMG just 10 years after the phenomenal suc-cesses of Band Aid and Live Aid.
Always one to ring the changes, this album had a very Celtic feel with
a plethora of acoustic instruments from uilleann pipes to mandolins and accordions alongside Midge’s trademark soaring electric guitar riff s.
The title track was picked up by
Swatch watches and headed their most successful advertising cam-paign ever. The album went triple platinum and was a massive success all over Europe.
After the successful reformation of Ultravox in 2009, Midge feels it’s time to revisit his Celtic roots, and will perform Breathe in its entirety for the fi rst time in 2015. Ably ac-companied by the two musicians from India Electric Co, recreating the nature of the album.
Midge will also play a selection of his other hits like Vienna, Dancing with Tears in My Eyes, Fade to Grey and If I Was, as well as songs from his recently released album Fragile.
The show takes place on Sunday, May 3, at 7.30pm at The Capitol, Horsham. Tickets cost £19 and are available from the box offi ce on 01403 750220 or at www.thecapitol-horsham.com.

PETs POSTSponsored by
Welcome to our monthly ‘Pet Post’, a section dedicated to news, advice and stories from the lives of our loveable friends. This week our sponsored columnist Abbi Moon from the Horsham branch of the RSPCA talks about the dangers of leaving dogs in cars.If you have any stories, pictures or tips you would like to feature in this section, please email [email protected]. We hope you enjoy the read.
abbi moonRSPCA
As the warm Spring days show their face now is a good time to remind ourselves how hot the inside of a car can get even when outside it feels quite mild.
Dogs die in hot cars, it’s a mes-sage that the RSPCA, and many other welfare charities, have been sending out for decades but still dozens of dogs die needlessly each year and hundreds of people leave their dogs in cars thinking “it’s not too hot outside” and “it won’t happen to me”.
I have a simple message - it does happen to
ordinary people like you and I. People whose dogs die in cars are rarely cruel people treating their dogs with contempt. They are or-dinary people who make a terri-ble judgement decision. The dogs are usually extremely loved pets whose owners are heartbroken at their loss. It doesn’t make it any less of a crime (you can be con-victed under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 for allowing your dog to
suff er in a hot car) and it doesn’t make it excusable in the slightest.
There’s no safe way to leave your dog in car, unless you have spe-cialist ventilation systems specifi -cally for animals fi tted. Dogs need a constant fresh stream of cool air to cool down their bodies so leav-ing the window down and water is not good enough. As dogs don't sweat having an air stream is re-ally important.
A few years ago, I had a ther-mometer on the back seat of my car and it was a shock how cool it
could be outside whilst being quite toasty inside the car. There isn’t a ‘safe’ temperature inside a car for a dog; every animal is diff er-ent. Some will be aff ected by even the smallest of increases in tem-perature. I don’t think it’s worth taking the risk so if you are go-ing somewhere, ask yourself; do I need to take the dog? Can you take your dog home before you pop to the shop? If you’re going out for a meal, can you choose a dog-friendly venue?
If you do come across a dog in a car, observe from a distance. Go-ing up to the windows may stress the dog and make the situation worse. If the dog is panting exces-sively, appears to be distressed or unconscious, dial 999. If you don’t feel the dog is in immediate dan-ger, then you can call the national RSPCA on 0300 1234 999. You’ll need details of the car, such as it’s registration number, make, model and colour and where the car is parked. If you can take a photo, that can also help.
Of course, it’s not just cars; conservatories and caravans have the same heat-retaining quali-ties. So where ever you leave your dog, make sure it’s safe, no mat-ter what the weather may have in store that day. Dogs left at home will need somewhere to go in order to stay at a comfortable tempera-ture, water, the opportunity to go to the toilet and something to do to prevent them getting bored.
Remember - dogs do die in cars

Osteoarthritis is an infl ammation of the joint and surrounding tis-sues which results in the progres-sive degeneration of the joint. It is a common condition in dogs, cats and people and tends to occur in older age through general ‘wear and tear’. About 20% of dogs and cats have osteoarthritis and it is a signifi cant cause of discomfort, pain and poor quality of life for our pets!
The signs of osteoarthritis will vary depending on which joints are involved, the age of the pet and the severity of the condition. As osteoar-thritis is more common in the older pet, many owners see these signs as simply part of the ageing process. In dogs, the fi rst sign usually seen is lameness as the dog tries to put more of its weight on its unaff ected legs. Another common sign is stiff ness with the dog fi nding it a struggle to get up or lay down. In cats, osteoarthritis is often harder to recognise as cats do not tend go ‘lame’. The most com-mon signs of osteoarthritis in cats are decreased activity levels and reduced ability to jump
Osteoarthritis is often suspected from the age of the pet, the clinical
history and a physical examination. Osteoarthritis is confi rmed with x-rays showing characteristic changes in the aff ected joints. As in people, there are a number of treatment and management options available for both dogs and cats. Response to these diff erent options however can be variable. Achieving and maintaining your pet’s ideal body weight is impor-tant. Obesity increases the amount of weight a joint must support making the osteoarthritis worse. Weight re-duction alone can often off er signifi -cant improvement in the clinical signs of osteoarthritis.
It is important to keep up the exer-cise with arthritic patients, to main-tain muscle, help prevent weight gain and to provide some stimulation for your pet. There are no fi xed rules as to how much exercise, but it should be the same amount and type each day. The exercise should be ‘within capac-ity’ – the pet should not be stiff er or more painful the next day as a result of the walk. Multiple short walks can better suit some animals. Hydro-therapy or myotherapy can be good options, especially if patients cannot walk far.
Osteoarthritis is often treated medically with the use of non steroi-dal anti-infl ammatory medication (NSAIDs). These drugs are very eff ec-tive at treating the signs of osteoar-thritis by reducing infl ammation and pain; they unfortunately do little to slow down the underlying progression of the disease. As such, the osteoar-thritis gradually gets worse over time. Nutraceutical joint supplements con-taining two disease modifying agents, chondroitin sulphate and glucosa-mine hydrochloride may also help. Oral consumption of glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin sul-phate is believed to increase the rate of joint repair, reduce infl ammation and so reduce pain. Occasionally, sur-gery may be appropriate from some pets with osteoarthritis. It is impor-tant that pets with osteoarthritis have a warm and comfortable place to rest.
Could your pet have osteoarthritis?
Adrian bunny rabbit has just moved to Horsham and is enjoying the sun
Ozzy lives near Slinfold and is spoilt with surrounding fi elds to explore
Due to improved veterinary care, knowledge and dietary habits, our pets are now living longer than they ever have before. One consequence of this is that pets, along with their owners and vets, are faced with a whole new set of age-related problems usually de-pending on the species and breed in question.
Just like humans, animals - once they get to a certain age – also forget things or get confused. Animals can certainly suffer from “petzheimers” as I like to call it, which is very similar to what some people suffer from. The differ-ence is that it is not through con-versation we notice the signs of this Canine or Feline “Cognitive Dysfunction”, but rather through altered behaviour and change in habits.
The affected animal is suddenly behaving oddly, vocalising ran-domly, soiling inappropriately, sleeping a lot – or not at all - and simply just being a completely different “person”.
So when does a pet officially be-come “old” - senior or geriatric?
It varies depending on species and breed, but cats and small dogs are generally considered senior at the age of 7 and geriatric after 10 years. Larger breed dogs tend to have shorter life spans and are considered senior or even geriat-
Dealing with senior pet moments
ric when they are approximately 6 years of age if they are very large.
Owners tend to want to think of their pet's age in human terms. While it is not as simple as "1 hu-man year = X cat/dog years", there are calculations that can help put a pet's age in human terms.
Senior tips of the week:
(1) To age your pet correctly ac-cording to breed and size please check out this informative website www.calculatorcat.com for both cats and dogs.
(2) Contacting your vet as there may be supportive measures and treatment for your “absent-minded” senior pet.
Remember to chip your pets, says RSPCATwo Sussex cats have been returned to their owners on the same day - all thanks to their microchips.
One was returned following three weeks stuck in a garage, and another following 18 months of being missing and then spending several days in an enclosed back yard.
Both owners were traced thanks to microchips, and the RSPCA is issuing a reminder to owners about how im-portant it is to get their pets chipped, and keep these details updated.
Honey, a one year-old calico-col-oured cat, was found in a padlocked garage with no windows in Caraway Close, Crawley, where she is believed to have been trapped for nearly three weeks after the garage owner in-stalled a new door.
She was discovered on Wednes-day, March 25, after a passer-by heard crying noises coming from in-side. The RSPCA was called and after tracking down the garage owner we found a distressed Honey inside.
After being taken to the vet and traced the delighted owner, who lived half a mile away was re-united the next day and it turned out Honey had been missing since mid Febru-ary, around the same time the garage owner last visited his property and padlocked the door.
The second cat, an eight year-old black tom cat called Spider), was found on Thursday, March 26, after he had been missing from his own-er, who had moved to London from Brighton, for a year-and-a-half. He was found in an enclosed back yard in Marine Parade, Brighton, where it is believed he had been for several days.
A member of the public reported
the issue to the RSPCA after they said they had heard him miaow-ing. A microchip was out of date, but con-tained the details of the local vet, who revealed the owner was living 50 miles away in Bermondsey, Lon-don. They had previously lived near the courtyard in Brighton but moved away, and had been missing Spider for 18 months.
RSPCA inspector Liz Wheeler said: “These two cases show how impor-tant it is to get your cat microchipped, and keep those details updated.
“Poor Honey must have felt so anxious in that dark, windowless ga-rage for all that time - she could have easily starved to death in there as it was used as storage space and not opened very often.
“She was unlucky to get stuck in there, but then very lucky a passer-by heard her.
“She shot out at full speed when I opened the garage - it was a good job I had some food handy to entice her back to me. She was unhurt but pret-ty hungry, and skinny - I don’t think there was much food or water.
“Spider was not trapped for so long but was still incredibly nervous after being in that courtyard for a few days. We do not know what must have happened to him for the 18 months in between being found and reported missing - but the owner was ecstatic to find him again after so long.
“He was well fed, though, so I sus-pect he had been cared for by some-one in the meantime.”
For more information about mi-crochipping, please ask your vet or visit http://www.rspca.org.uk/ad-viceandwelfare/pets/general/micro-chipping.

Palmer wins on opening weekend at Oulton ParkMotor SportDave Smith – Sports Editor
Will Palmer enjoyed a great start to his 2015 Duo BRDC F4 campaign as he took a win, podium and the championship lead at Oulton Park.
The 18-year-old had been in fi ne form throughout testing on Friday, setting the overall pace in the damp with a lap of 1:48.620s. He claimed P1 on the grid for the opening race of the season following a titanic battle with his teammate Harri Newey.
Palmer made a strong getaway and leapt into an early lead in the fi rst race. Newey was overtaken by South African Sebastian Lanzetti for second and it took until Knick-erbrook on lap three for Newey to retake the Hillspeed driver. The 16-year-old attempted to close the gap to Will but Palmer extended his advantage and strolled home to vic-tory by 4.815s with Lanzetti taking
third. With the reverse grid format for
race two, Will started in eighth place and had made his way up to fourth by the end of the open-ing lap. Pole-sitter Sisa Ngebulana spun on the warm-up lap which left Manxman Chris Mealin to lead the fi eld away with Ciaran Haggerty in close pursuit.
Palmer caught up Tom Jackson but was struggling to fi nd a way past, which allowed Jack Bartho-lomew to close up and a three-way fi ght soon developed. It took until lap eight before Will dived inside Jackson and Bartholomew followed him through. Up front, Mealin ex-tended his advantage over Haggerty and came home to take the win with Palmer holding off Bartholomew to stand on the podium once again.
Having set the fi fth-fastest lap across the fi rst two races, Palmer lined up on the third row behind Chris Mealin, Ciaran Haggerty, Har-
ri Newey and Jordan Albert. Newey made a good start and was pressur-ing leader Albert immediately but Palmer had a less successful geta-way and was relegated to eighth. Newey spun off and rejoined in 16th, promoting Palmer to seventh, and he soon improved on this by passing Bartholomew for sixth. As the race headed towards its conclu-sion, Ciaran Haggerty made a num-ber of mistakes which allowed Will to take fi fth behind Albert, Mealin, Rodrigo Fonseca and Jackson.
Will said: "It's been a really good weekend for me and I'm re-ally pleased that we've been able to start the season so strongly. The team did a great job all weekend as we saw with a one-two in qualifying and the fi rst race. There are a few things we should be able to improve for the next race so hopefully we can carry this momentum through to Rockingham and be even strong-er there."

Atlantis swimmers prep for regional championshipsSwimmingDave Smith – Sports editor
A contingent of Atlantis swim-mers took the opportunity of top level competition competing in the Guildford City Level 1 Long Course Meet over last week-end in preparation for the SE Regional Championships next month.
Fifteen year old speedster Ham-ish Milne-Skillman, a certain Na-tional qualifi er, took the honours with golds in his Age Group 50 and 100 freestyle events with times of 25.58 and 57.53. Fellow sprinter Cavan Murphy (17) also swam well with a PB time of 32.64 for his 50 breaststroke and a solid 57.30 100 free.
The girls were led by junior club captain Lily Davis who collected gold and silver in her 100 and 50 breaststroke events with times of 1.15.44 and 33.94. Her young team mates responded with some spar-
kling performances in their Age Group categories. Medley special-ist Rebecca Barber (12) took gold in both the 400 and 200 IM events together with bronzes in the 100, 200 and 400 freestyle. Ethel Why-man (12) collected silvers in her fa-vourite 50,100 and 200 backstroke events together with a bronze in the 400 IM. Amelia Wright (13) collect-ed silvers in the 50 and 200 breast-strokes together with a bronze in the100.
Excellent results were also re-corded by Lucie Lee (17) with a 30.85 PB in the 50 butterfl y and Freya Fulcher (14) 1.12.87 for a place in the 100 backstroke fi nal.
Head Coach Bill Penny comment-ed "This has been a worthwhile ex-perience for our young swimmers and has given them a valuable fore-taste as to what to expect at the Re-gional Championships next month and will hopefully motivate them to train harder with that goal in mind"

Storrington’s Leighton Aspell wins the Grand National - Again!
Storrington jockey Leighton As-pell pulled off a major horse racing coup by winning the Grand Na-tional in consecutive years – the fi rst jockey to do so since Brian Fletcher won on Red Rum in 1973 and 1974. And, 38 year old Leight-on did it on two diff erent horses.
Last year he romped home on lit-tle fancied Pineau De Re, while last Saturday on his eighth National appearance he was aboard Many Clouds, carrying the second heavi-est weight. Leighton said: “We knew we’d got a good horse” – it won the Hennessy Gold Cup in No-vember, but was completely over-looked by the pundits after com-ing in a disappointing sixth in last month’s Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Leighton’s tactics echoed last year’s triumph, maintaining a good position before taking the lead in the closing stages and win-ning comfortably in a fast time at 25-1 again. Runner up in 2003 af-ter winning the Welsh National two years before and then again in 2005
Leighton retired in 2007 to work as an assistant trainer at John Dun-lop’s Arundel Castle yard until the camaraderie of the track coaxed him back.
Before the race trainer Oli-ver Sherwood praised Leighton’s horsemanship, but was reduced to tears in the winner’s enclosure saying: “Leighton kept him out of trouble and he went round foot per-fect.” Meanwhile Many Clouds, the youngest winner for 13 years, and close to collapsing had to be hosed down to combat overheating.
All eyes had been on Tony McCoy in his last National but, for the sec-ond year running this was Leight-on’s day and despite triumphing in the world’s greatest steeple chase, earning a share of the £561,300 winning prize pot, he was as cool afterwards as he had been through-out the race, saying: “It was won-derful and we’ll certainly celebrate tonight! I asked some big questions, but he dug deep. He’s all heart and I knew he’d run to the line. That’s the best ride I’ve had in the Na-tional. I just hoped his battery would last out, and it did!” Popular Leighton won praises from his fel-low jockeys, runner up Paddy Bren-nan commenting: “It was won by a true gentleman.”

Horsham suff er agonising relegationSaturday April 11 – Women’s Con-ference East Relegation playoff sKendal 1 - 1 Horsham Ladies 1st XI
Hockey Martin Read – Sports Reporter
Horsham had to make a 600 mile round trip for their second rel-egation play off but despite hold-ing their Lake District opponents to a draw they made the long haul home knowing that they had bowed out of the national league after cruelly losing their previous decider against Bristol Firebrands from the last hit of the match.
Originally destined to visit Mer-seyside for their fi nal play off , Horsham’s game was switched to Kendal at short notice when that club slipped down to the penulti-mate spot in the Conference North League after being docked fi ve points for fi elding an ineligible player, allowing Liverpool Sefton to escape the danger zone.
In the vital match Kendal took the lead early in the second half. Rebecca Williams equalised 22 minutes later but Horsham needed to win to stay up. Horsham suff ered ill fortune in the run in but, look-ing back over the entire season paid the penalty for two lengthy losing spells after heading the table fol-lowing two wins and a draw from their opening three matches. A change of captain and coach late in the season revitalised the team but, unlike recent years, Horsham could
not quite survive the play off s this time.
Team Manager Jane Denman said: “It is so sad after being in the Na-tional League for many years. The girls gave it their all and I couldn’t be prouder of them but the luck just did not go our way. Our new coach, England’s Dan Shingles, made a
big impact and the girls looked a good team in the fi nal stages.” Club Chairman Nick Evans added: “This is hugely disappointing but we’ll re-group in the South Club’s Wom-en’s League, and do our very best to bounce back. There should be new opportunities for some of our im-pressive young emerging players!”
Hough’s hat trick seals successful seasonSaturday April 11 - South League Premier Division 2Ashford 4 - 4 Horsham Men’s 1st XI
Hockey Martin Read – Sports Reporter
Injury ravaged Horsham strug-gled to put out a full squad for their fi nal league appear-ance but were heart-ened by the return of much-missed top scorer Matt Hough follow-ing a six week layoff - his stunning hat trick boost-ing his sea-sonal tally to 18 goals amid a second half goal fest deny-ing either side victory.
Horsham’s only drawn game of the sea-son was also marked by a one off come back by former stalwart Mark Vivian, now a Royal Marine – and the retirement of ever reliable cen-tre back Seye Akande. Ashford led by the single goal at half time with little hint of what was to follow.
After the break Horsham skipper Duncan Howarth equalised, slotting home John Burroughs’ pass from close quarters. A deluge of goals fl owed in at opposite ends of the pitch, including three Matt Hough short corner conversions in quick time as Horsham applied pressure.
With neither side able to improve their league position Horsham
fi nished third, champions Banbury and runners
up Henley being promoted, while
Barnes and Tun-bridge Wells were relegated and Ashford consigned to the play off s.

thirty clubs from the England & Wales Cricket Trust Small Grant Scheme which is supported by Waitrose.
The Sussex Cricket Board is re-sponsible for distributing the grants which range between £1000
and £4000 per club. The money can be used for a variety of things including improving the long term sustainability of clubs, saving or raising money and reducing oper-ating costs; with the overall aim of creating a sustainable future for af-
fi liated cricket clubs.Four clubs in our District, Hor-
sham, Billingshurst, Southwater and Horsham Trinity have benefi t-ted from the grants which will go towards projects such as improving kitchens and indoor and outdoor social areas to help clubs become the heart of their local community.
Tim Shutt, Head of Cricket De-
velopment for the Sussex Cricket Board, said “Clubs are the lifeblood of cricket and they are often major hubs within their communities. Furthermore, it remains challeng-ing for cricket clubs to be economi-cally viable, therefore being able to support clubs in this way is great and thanks must go to the ECWT and Waitrose.”

Farlington girls qualify at Sands FarmEquestrianDave Smith – Sports Editor
Farlington equestrian grass roots team have experienced another great day of competition at Sands Farm.
A team of four consisting of Lucia Mayhew riding Sammy, Roseanna Savage riding Polo, Georgia Stephens riding Jeepers and Lucy Bugler riding Buttons entered the 60/65cm class and were looking to get a good result as this was a championship qualifier.
Lucia and Roseanna went clear, Georgia had an unfortunate stop but continued and finished the course and Lucy’s pony ran out of the last jump but determinedly Lucy got him over and the team finished. With only the top five teams going through it was a nervous wait for the girls before finally finishing third.
In the 70/75cm class Megan Speers riding Hector, Suzie Lunt riding Billy, Lucia Mayhew riding Sammy and Roseanna Savage riding Polo all rode very well with Megan and Suzie going clear, Roseanna had a stop at jump 9 but finished the course and Lucia’s pony also decided to stop at jump 9 and was unable to finish. The team ended on four faults and were placed third out of a very strong class.

Chesworth Rovers U11 3 - 1 Royal Utd U11Chesworth Rovers U11 played a pre cup final warm up match against a strong Royal Utd team at the For-est pitches.
Chesworth took an early lead through Tom in the first half with Leo in goal hitting fine form keep-ing the Royals attack at bay. The second half saw Callum swing a corner into the box for Seb to smash home. Callum got himself on the score sheet by jumping highest to meet Tom’s corner with a brilliant header past the keeper for 3 - 0. Royals grabbed a consolation goal to make it 3 - 1.
Game 2 saw Tom and Seb on the score sheet again. Nyle and Regan joined them for a 4 - 0 win.
Horsham SparrowsSparrows Under 12 – An impres-
sive performance from the team saw them run out comfortable win-ners against local opposition Hor-sham Baptist and Ambassadors. This firmly secured third place in the table with one match left to play.
Sparrows Under 13 – Horsham Sparrows entertained high-flying Crawley United. This was a com-petitive game with good perfor-mances from both sides. Crawley ran out 4 - 0 winners but the match was closer than the score-line sug-gests. There were many good per-formances from the Sparrows but Frazer F was Man of the match for a composed performance in the heart of the defence.
Sparrows Under 11 girls – An away game at Cuckfield Cosmos saw the girls share the points with
an impressive 0-0 draw. All the team worked really hard and de-served the praise from their coach and parents. Hannah was girl of the match and Aimee picked up the ac-colade of most improved player for the day.
Sparrows Under 15 Girls – The team travelled to Crawley Wasps and won their semi final 2-9 which saw them reach the cup final. Goals from Jazmine Y (3), Ruby E (2), Fliss L, Lily K and Daisy B sealed the vic-tory while MOTM went to 3 players Fliss, Ruby and Daisy. The girls play in the final against Angmering on Sunday April 26, spectators most welcome (visit website for more de-tails www.horshamsparrows.co.uk)
Sparrows Under 18 Girls – The girls started with a strong belief that they would upset the odds against a quality team from Reigate. Amber opened the scoring for spar-rows with an excellent 20 yard drive into the corner leaving the ‘keeper with no chance. South Park equal-ised within 10 minutes but a tena-cious run by Hannah and a deflected shot flew into the net shortly before half time. The second half was end to end stuff and midway through the half, Charlotte scored from the edge of the box giving sparrows a 3-1 lead. The final 20 minutes was open with chances at both ends before South Park pulled one back with 5 minutes to go. The nerves on the touch line were settled when Charlotte hit another pile driver from 20 yards which flew over the keepers head into the back of the net giving the girls an excellent well deserved 4-2 win.
Weakened Heath lose but reserves finish runners upSaturday April 11 - Sussex County League Div 1Lancing 3 - 0 Broadbridge Heath
FootballDave Smith – Sports Editor
With six first team regulars al-ready missing from his side, Broadbridge Heath manager Ste-ve Painter knew the trip to an in-form Lancing was going to be very difficult but when hit by a fur-ther two late withdrawals on the morning of the match, it meant bringing in some inexperienced players from the Reserves and the task then became almost impos-sible.
Heath did manage to keep the score level at 0-0 going in at half-time but there were rare moments of quality from the side, Lancing upped their game in the second pe-riod, took the lead within two min-utes of the restart through Ross Adams, added a second midway through the half from substitute Neil Munday and completed the scoring in the 70th minute with a goal from Michael Williamson.
Painter was very disappointed with his team’s performance after the game, even with a weakened side he knows the players are ca-pable of playing much better than they did, and he will be hoping to get a few more senior players back and will expect a much improved performance on Saturday when Heath play championship con-tenders Littlehampton Town at the Leisure Centre.
Heath Team: E. Flack, Brown-lee (Butler 71), Sebuliba, Balfour, M Flack, Mobsby, Moore, Godfrey, Holmes, Legrange, Sultan.
Broadbridge Heath Res. 1 - 0 Saltdean United Res.
Meanwhile in the County League Reserve Premier Division, a weak-ened Heath Reserves confirmed the runners-up position with two games remaining in their first ever season in the Premier Division, and they did it in style by complet-ing the double over league champi-ons Saltdean United at the Leisure Centre, the only goal of the match was scored by Adam Wicking in the 75th minute, a 30 yard thunderbolt into the bottom corner of the net, a goal worthy of winning any game.
Heath Reserve Team: M Ches-ter, Wicking, Robinson, Alfieri, S Chester, Bacon, Meech, Clark, Maxted, Copestake.

Sullivan header lifts YM up to sixthSaturday April 11- Sussex County League Div 1Horsham YMCA 1 – 0 Eastbourne Town
FootballTom Norris – Football Reporter
A fi rst half Nick Sullivan header was all that separated Horsham YMCA and visitors Eastbourne Town last Saturday, as Peter Buck-land’s side returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory at Gorings Mead.
YM bounced back from their East-er Monday defeat to league leaders Dorking Wanderers with a com-posed performance against fourth-placed Town, and the three points lifts them up to sixth spot in Divi-sion 1.
Manager Buckland commented: “It had an end of season feel to it, but the fact does remain that against one of the better sides in the league we have won again. It’s just bizarre.
“That’s Eastbourne Town and Newhaven we’ve beaten twice now. We’ve beaten Pagham, Dorking Wanderers and Littlehampton Town, and yet we’ve had some ridiculous results that have cost us so dearly.
“I guess it is hard to motivate our-selves when there is nothing to play for, but what I said before the game was that I’d like to think that as a group of players they are out there for ninety minutes of football, which is why they’re here and what they love doing.”
Eastbourne failed to register a single shot on target all game, much thanks to a disciplined YM defence that was marshalled superbly by man of the match Matt Crane.
At the opposite end, Nick Sulli-van’s twenty-third goal of the sea-son secured the win as he headed home an inch perfect cross from Luke Gedling, who recorded his 100th game for YM, eight minutes before the break.
Buckland concluded: “If we can fi nish fi fth or sixth, we can turn around and say that we have had a bad season, but we’ve fi nished fi fth in the league. That’s not so bad, and it’s important to me that we keep that mentality and that spirit going and roll it on into next year.”
YM Team: Lockwood, Carden, Crane, O’Carroll, Evans, Dugdale, Gedling, D. Sullivan (J. Brown 81), D. Brown, Schaaf, N. Sullivan. Unused Subs: Fox, Gathern.

Horsham’s fate decided despite an improved performance
Saturday April 11 - Ryman League Division One SouthFaversham Town 2 – 0 Horsham
Horsham’s very small chance of escaping relegation was fi nally dealt a fatal blow in Dom Di Pao-la’s fi rst game in charge at promo-tion chasing Faversham Town.
It was certainly too late in the day for the new manager to infl uence the Hornets’ fate for this season and his eff orts must now turn to next season in the Sussex County League, to be renamed the Macron Store Southern Combination Football League.
Next season will be the Hornets fi rst outside the Isthmian League for over four decades and will contain a number of interesting and tricky lo-cal derbies for the team as they at-tempt to make their stay at this level a one season occurrence.
Just how many of the current squad will remain next season is to be seen but with only the injured duo of Tom Bold and Lewis Hamilton and ex manager Storey the only players
missing Di Paola had a near full squad to choose from.
In the early stages both teams ex-changed eff orts on goal but the diffi -cult playing surface favoured Faver-sham’s long ball game and their tall forwards height advantage was caus-ing Horsham problems; as it has to teams all season with the Kent side scoring over one hundred goals.
Arguably Horsham’s best player this season, ‘keeper Gareth Wil-liams, made the fi rst of many good saves during the game, saving well from David Botterill’s header as the home side looked to cement their play off place. As the pressure built on the Hornets’ goal Williams saved well again, this time from Charley Robertson. Williams was eventually beaten on twenty fi ve minutes how-ever when a quick passing move from defence put Faversham’s Dean Grant in on goal from where he shot passed the Horsham ‘keeper.
The home side continued to press and the only surprise as the referee called half time was that Faversh-am’s lead was not a goal or two more. However this was an all together more determined and organised Horsham, especially in defence, and if Di Paula has instilled this in them in such a short time then next season
the team should reap the rewards.Straight from the restart the su-
perb Williams was called on to once again thwart the home side; this time diving to push Wayne Wilson’s shot around the post. Faversham began to get frustrated and collected a few yellow cards as the free scoring team failed to add to their solitary goal. For the Hornets Camara and Gilbert were also cautioned as they battled to stem the tide of Faversham attacks and in an attempt to turn the tide Di Paula sent on Hadi, Izokun and Berry for Obersteller, Hope and Camara.
The changes failed to inspire any threat to Faversham and home keep-er Robert French remained fairly untroubled. Five minutes from time the match, and Horsham’s Ryman League status, was over when Matt Bourne’s bullet header from Wilson’s free kick fl ew into the net.
With two games remaining there is nothing left to play for apart from pride and the chance for some of the players to show the new manager they are maybe not as bad as the re-sults would suggest.

Records broken as Horsham end season in styleSaturday April 11 – London 3 South East LeagueHorsham 92 – 3 Hastings & Bex-hill
RugbyRichard Ordidge - HRUFC
Horsham rounded off the season in style with a resounding 92-3 win at home to already relegated Hastings & Bexhill.
In the perfect conditions the Green and Whites broke a series of club records since the advent of league rugby namely biggest win 92-3, most tries scored in a game 14, most league points in a season 101, most points scored in a season 806, least points conceded in a sea-son 239, and most tries scored in a season 120.
Individual honours go to top try scorer Jamie Gibbs with 17, top points scorer Tom Johnson with 167 and a special mention to both Johnny Ordidge and Ben Rush from Matamata, in Waikato, New Zea-land, who were the only players to play in every game.
It was a performance that de-lighted Horsham head coach Nick Stocker. He said: “We were in a cel-ebratory mood having secured the title a few weeks ago. We tried to play champagne rugby and this was a fi ne way to end the season. We now need to focus on the cup fi nal.”
Horsham started quickly and following good phase play a pen-
alty was taken as a scrum which re-sulted in a pushover try for Richard Tredgett after 3 minutes.
The Green and Whites then scored a further two tries in three minutes when the ball was spun wide and Gibbs made a break for a fi ne try fi nished by Mills. Ordidge then made an incisive break and the ball was spun wide for James Whiting to score. Both tries were converted by Tom Johnson and af-ter 18 minutes Horsham were lead-ing 19-0.
Hastings & Bexhill pegged Hor-sham back with a penalty but the pressure was soon on again as Hor-sham added a further three tries in the fi nal ten minutes of the half. Following a scrum penalty James Whiting scored his second try, and then Tredgett scored his second try from the back of the scrum and on the stroke of half time Matt Stone scored out wide meaning Horsham entered the break 38-3 up.
In the second half Horsham turned on the style and added a further eight tries. Ordidge burst through the middle to score and Thompson scored out wide follow-ing several phases.
Then in a purple patch the Green and Whites scored four tries in eight minutes. Scott Price broke several tackles to score under the posts, Jonny Whiting unselfi shly passed to Giles Barber in support to score, Jonny Whiting scored after good phase play, and Barber scored
his second try to take Horsham into a 78-3 lead after 70 minutes.
Horsham’s attacking was relent-less as Hastings & Bexhill’s heads started to drop. A fi ne break was made by James Whiting which was taken on by Will Bell, and Goward stormed over from 25 yards. Jonny Whiting then drove over to score his second try in the fi nal minute after a tap penalty. Eleven tries were converted by Johnson.
Stocker singled out the following players for praise: “Liam Brady has really started to develop his han-dling and competed well against a big lumpy set of forwards. It was good to have Matt Stone back from injury and Giles Barber showed his pace. Richard Tredgett was my man of the match for a couple of tries, his tackling and he carried well.
Johnny Ordidge had a good game, Will Bell was consistency personi-fi ed, James Whiting ran some great support lines and carried with pur-pose and Jamie Gibbs was always threatening.”
Horsham attempt to secure an historic league and cup double at East Grinstead on May 9 when they face the winners of Crowborough and Haywards Heath in the fi nal of the Bob Rogers Sussex Cup.
Saturday April 11 - London 3 South East LeaguePark House 7 - 15 Pulborough
RugbyMartin Read – Sports Reporter
In their last game of the campaign Pulborough maintained their league
status with a welcome, if unaccus-tomed; away win – against the Kent side they beat at home in October’s seasonal opener, Park House - con-demning them to relegation.
Lewes and Hastings also go down, Boro fi nishing eighth on 38 points, one ahead of Gillingham Anchorians. There was all to play for in this fi nal
league match, which had an extra edge because Anchorians were play-ing nearby and if they beat Bromley and Boro lost then Boro would have been for the drop. But despite start-ing slowly and conceding a converted try Boro moved up a gear, easing the tension and winning easily enough in the end to secure their league fu-
Boro survive in a good club season ture for next season. Seven nil down at half time Boro
turned with the wind and slope in their favour and began to assert control, closing out Park House. Dan Brown crossed the line ahead of a Tom Hoey penalty before Dan Paige’s try was converted by Frazer Oliphant-Hope to give Boro the decisive 15-7 win.
Team Manager Roger Hunt told the District Post: “After getting
back into this league our pre season aim was to build up the club stand-ings. The seconds and thirds have been promoted and the fi rsts have stayed up, so all in all that’s pretty satisfying.
“We’ve got some good reserves coming through and, looking ahead to next season we want the feeder sides to make further progress and consolidate the fi rsts higher up the table.”
