Firestorm Ar mada Model Statistics Copyright © Spartan Games 2013 THE DIRECTORATE ucked away in the remote galactic north-eastern regions o the Outer Reach, lies the domain o the most secretive, and almost certainly the most sinister o the galaxy’s major powers: the Directorate. Its holdings are centred on the Anderson-Hadley-Keller system triad, separated rom the Aquan Sebrutan by the relatively narrow stretch o Dindrenzi territory known as the Wimms Corridor. In terms o size, it is the smallest o the major powers. However, easy access to the riches o the Outer Reach, together with their ormidable technological sophistication and secretive political machinations , has made the Directorate very inuential. Te Directorate was born amidst political and economic strie. Te three corporations at its heart, Hark Williams, Melcon and Works Raptor, had grown immensely wealthy unding the colonisation eorts o the Outer Reach. In the process, the corporations had taken a sizeable slice o the Reach or themselves. In the aermath o the First War between erra and the Commonwealth, they proceeded to buy their reedom rom the cash-strapped Satellite Charter, in return or a huge indemnity and a promise to share their uture advancements with erra. However, the Directorate corporations, under the leadership o Ervan Bas o Hark Williams, never intended to honour that agreement. Even as they signed the accord with the Satellite Charter, Bas and his compatriots were already busy orging links with Rense Corp and t he other leading lights o the nascent Outer Reach liberation movement. Teir motives or doing this were very simple: prot. For decades, the corporations had made huge amounts o money supplying the demands o the struggling colonies o the Outer Reach. Hark Williams’ terraorming and lie support expertise had played a key role in rendering many otherwise hostile worlds habitable, including Raven’s Citadel in the Rense System, which would become the Dindrenzi capital planet. Melcon’s biotech and cybernetic systems were undamental in providing the initial basis or Dindrenzi advancement in those elds, while the weapons and spacecra provided by Works Raptor allowed the colonists to expand and deend t heir gains. By contrast, the markets or corporate services in the economically slumping Satellite Charter were insignicant. When Markus Rense declared the Outer Reach independent, the Directorate was quick to step in and oer the rebels a vast array o services, rom shipbuilding and repair all the way up to intelligence-gathering – or a suitable ee. Since that time, the Directorate has mostly tied its ortunes to the Dindrenzi Federation. However, the corporations have never let morality or treaties get in the way o their search or protable enterprises or their xation on technological supremacy . Tey have sold weaponry, ships and expertise in any number o markets, legal and illegal. Tey have dealt with the Dindrenzi and Relthoza and several smaller alien dominions such as the Kedorians and Illosians. Directorate agents have wormed their way into the political systems o nearly every power in the Reach and beyond. Te Directorate is the driving orce behind many o the causes o conict between the other powers, even going as ar as to sponsor raiders and pirates inimical to its supposed allies. Tey are major, though secretive backers o the Church o the Dramos Angels, the most powerul undamentalist and human- supremacist action within the Dindrenzi Federation. Tey are building next-generation warships or both the Rense System Navy and the Relthoza Empire. But the corporations always put their own goals rst. For years, they have engaged in covert black-ops raids against the Aquan Sebrutan, eager to steal the secrets o Aquan biotechnology . Tey have also mounted operations against the Sorylian Collective, again targeting research stations and isolated colonies. Te purpose o these raids is ar darker than merely vandalism and the. Te Directorate ’ s ironically named ‘Security Fleets’ have also engaged in the mass abduction o Aquan and Sorylian citizens. Tese poor unortunates are never seen again, but rumours abound o their use as raw materials in horric experimentation, as Directorate scientists seek to imbue horrible genetic hybrids with characteristics that will improve their combat abilities. Te ailure rate is said to be extreme, leading to reports o asteroids used as dumping grounds or the unspeakable end results o experiments gone awr y. Te society o the Directorate is unlike that o any o the other major powers, in that it is not a society at all. Te governing corporations do not exist or the benet o their populations – instead, the populations o the Directorate systems exist or the benet and convenience o t heir corporate overlords. Te management is the be-all and end-all o the Directorate. Tey are the masters o all they survey, and all else – the peoples and resources they govern, their enemies and their allies alike – are nothing but tools to be used and destroyed as required.
