“Use technology when it helps you to achieve your lesson objectives”

(José Picardo)

OPTION 2: To search and use material already created on the web

by other authors

When integrating ICT in the teaching of a foreign language, we have two

options:

OPTION 1: To create our own material

How? With AUTHORING TOOLS:

Hotpotatoes, Jclic, webquests….

BYou can ADAPT the

material to your needs

AYou can use the material as it is

In BOTH CASES you definitely have to acknowledge the author.

Never use it without acknowledging it.When ADAPTING, state who has been

adapted by.

Adapted from http:/www………………. by Maria Luisa Ochoa

OPTION 1: Designing your own materials

Tailoring them to your teaching needs and the students´needs

Introducing HOT POTATOES

-The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is freeware.-It was created by Victoria University (Canada). -The exercises created can be published on the Web.- On the web Ttere are plenty of examples of exercises created with this application.- They enhance autonomous learning as students are given all the necessary information and tools to be able to do the exercise on their own.

JMatch

JMix

The HotPotatoes suite includes six applications. It is an easy application to create the folllowing types of

exercises:

• Crossword puzzle (JCross), • Matching exercise (JMatch), • Fill-in-the-blanks exercise (JCloze), • Multiple-choice and Short-answer Quiz (JQuiz) • Jumbled sentence exercise (JMix)

It consists of:

You can personalize your exercises: color, background, inserting pictures, videos, audios, etc.

Introducing JCLIC

JClic is a set of free software for the development of multimedia educational activities.

The clicZone is a public service from the Ministry of Education of the Government of Catalonia created to give diffusion and support to the use of these resources, and to become a space of cooperation open to the participation of all the educators that want to share the applications produced using the programmes.

Introducing TREASURE HUNTS

& WEBQUESTS

Page 16: The Design, Adaptation and Use of Didactic Materials for the Learning and Teaching of a Foreign Language

Some common characteristics

• The teacher is a guide that helps in the students´ learning process. The actor is the student who is made responsible of his/her own learning.

• Interactive learning guided by the teacher but the student is the leader.

Page 17: The Design, Adaptation and Use of Didactic Materials for the Learning and Teaching of a Foreign Language

What is a WEBQUEST?
