Through the Department of Rehabilitation Services, patientshave access to a variety of specialists and professionals,a compassionate support staff and a variety of exerciseequipment. Programs are available to patients under themedical direction of a physiatrist (doctor specializing inphysical rehabilitation), who oversees their total treatment.Appointments are necessary for all therapy, consultationsand testing.

Physical TherapyPhysical Therapy provides orthopedic rehabilitation for sportsinjuries, fractures, arthritis, amputations, joint replacementand tendonitis. The department also provides neurologicalrehabilitation for strokes, multiple sclerosis, cord injuries,Parkinson’s disease and balance disorders.

Prosthetic and Orthotic ClinicThe Prosthetic and Orthotic Clinic offers a full array of servicesincluding patient evaluation, and upper and lower extremityprosthetics and orthotics. All patients receive appropriatefollow-up referrals for training with their devices.

Occupational TherapyOccupational Therapy promotes independent and safefunctioning in self-care, and facilitates a patient’s return tothe community following illness, injury or disability. Patientsreceive training in everyday tasks such as dressing andbathing, preparing a meal, or managing a home. A handrehabilitation program for all types of hand injuries anddysfunctions is also available.

Speech-Language TherapySpeech-Language Therapy provides help for patients of allages and disorders including stroke, dysphagia (swallowingdisorders), laryngectomy, delayed language development,articulation (pronunciation errors), stuttering, voice problemsand neurological disorders.

Balance Fall Prevention ProgramThe Balance Fall Prevention Program uses a computer-assistedvariable stability platform to test one’s ability to maintainbalance and determine risk of falling. In addition to thebalance test, patients will undergo blood work and bonedensitometry testing. Those found to have a balance disorderwill undergo an individualized therapy plan.

Who Should Be Routinely Screened:� Anyone who has a history of falling� Anyone 55 years of age or older� Anyone who complains of dizziness� Anyone expressing a fear of falling� Anyone 50 years of age or older who is having difficulty

adjusting to wearing new glasses, especially bifocals;and/or has deteriorating hearing or previouslyundiagnosed hearing loss which requires treatment orhearing device.

Hours of OperationThe Department of Rehabilitation Services is openMonday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eveninghours are also available for Physical Therapy.

Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plansare accepted.
