Please consider supporting our Gamma Chapter by being the Corresponding & Recording Secretary. We need your help!

Hello Gamma Sisters,

It is my wish that you all had great holidays. Our December meeting was fun and in the book exchange I got The Shack, which was read and enjoyed very much. That was a great idea Reba had about exchanging books. Also my copper bird Christmas decoration is so beautiful that I felt honored to have gotten it. It made my Christmas tree light up with color. We all enjoyed singing along with Reba and playing music bingo. Thank for the great job, Reba!

We all realize that every Gamma member is important. We are all responsible for making our chapter shine. I am working on reports and am hopeful that one or two members will step up to work as a team for the positions of both Corresponding and Recording Secretary. There are many capable women and possibly a team effort for these two positions might work for the benefit of our chapter. We need someone to step forward for the February meeting to take notes

for our short meeting. We will have a speaker on Living Wills so the business meeting will only include the essentials.

Many have made New Years resolutions and here are a few more ideas from Fiore on how to change the way you talk to yourself:• Replace “I have to” with “I choose to.”• Replace “I must finish” with “When can I start?”• Replace “This project is so big and important” with “I can take one small step.”• Replace “I must be perfect” with “I can be perfectly human.”• Replace “I don’t have time” with “I must take time.”• Replace “I wish I’d done that” with “What small step can I take now?”

I am looking forward to working with all of you in 2013!

Your DKG Sister,

Liz Biglin

Gamma Sisters -

Blast from the Past!

In 1987, Phyllis Radugge had just been initiated into our Gamma Chapter! The beautiful red roses are such a lovely symbol for our organization. Did you know that the red rose symbolizes accomplishment?

Thanks to Gamma’s historians for archiving such rich, Gamma memories!

Nancy Zimmerman was the Membership Chair at the 1987

initiation ceremony.

SYMBOLISM

The key is the official symbol of membership. The key shall be a vertical ellipse. Across its center the DKG shall signify key women educators.  Above the letters a wreath of laurel leaves shall signify honor. Below the letters a cup shall signify knowledge.

Kudos to Michelle Koenig for volunteering as our December Recording Secretary!

Welcome:

President Liz Biglin called the meeting to order and thanked Bev Fatig and Michelle Koenig for lovely Christmas table decorations, napkins, and little wooden boxes of candy.

Michele gave the Thought for the Day. She presented the members with small wooden boxes that she had used in previous years with her students. She asked members to think of them as a metaphor for gifts that we receive daily.

Reba told the members that they were to put their Christmas ornament on the back table and that she would call tables to go over and select one after the business meeting.

Cathe told members how we arrived at our new checking total and how the money was distributed. The treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

Committee Reports:Research:

Angie Clark thanked the members that had turned in the questionnaire and passed out the form to those who had not done so. She will make a list of the members who have not turned in the form and will call them. No names will be retained and only the information is compiled for the report. The forms will be shredded.

World Fellowship:

Mary Anne Wiedenheft told members that we were collecting for World Fellowship and a brown envelope was passed around. Those members contributing wrote their names on a slip of paper and three presents were given to members whose names were drawn.

Ad Hoc committee for updating our by-laws:

Michelle Koenig explained that the new state guidelines were responsible for changing our by-laws from 3 to 9 pages. A first draft has been completed and sent to the executive board and chairpersons for suggestions and corrections. Then the new draft will be put on our web site for members input before the final copy.

Educational Excellence:

Dorene Henschen reported that she received five Grant-in-Aid requests by the December 1 deadline. The committee will determine the size of the grants, with the amount given being the same for all the approved applicants.

Unfinished Business: Mary Cardinal and Joanne Katonak are working on decorations for

Founders’ Day. The President showed a clear goblet which has been approved to be part of the table centerpieces. Mary and Joanne will put the goblets on red plates.

The menu for F. D. has been approved and put on line. Extra copies, for members to place their orders, were passed out. It is suggested that members keep the top portion so that when they check in they can get the appropriate color card to let the servers know what they ordered.

The President reminded members about purchasing books for the April convention to be distributed to Children’s Hospital. Ollie’s had great books on sale.

The meeting was adjourned and the Christmas Party began.

Respectfully submitted,Michele KoenigFirst V-President
