BIOLOGY
Students studying in class IX have to prepare Biology practical file based on following experiments:
1. To Test the presence of starch in a given food sample .
2. To test the presence of the adulterant matanil yellow in dal.
3. To prepare a stained temporary mount of onion Peel.
4. To identify parenchyma and sclerenchyma tissues in plants, striped muscle fibers and nerve cells
in animals from prepared slide and to draw their labeled diagrams.
5. To study the characteristic of spirogyra, Agaricus, Moss, Fern, Pinus and an angiosperm plant.
Draw and give identifying features of each group they belong to.

specimen record one specific feature of the phylum and one adaptive feature with reference to its
habitat.
7. To study the external feature of root stem and leaf and flower of monocot and dicot plants.
8. To study the life cycle of mosquito.
CHEMISTRY

a) transparency b) filtration c) stability. Pg. no.71
5. To prepare a mixture b) a compound using iron and sulphur powder and distinguish
between these on the basis of:
i) appearance i.e. homogeneity and heterogeneity . ii) behavior towards a magnet.
iii) behavior towards carbon disulphide as a solvent.
iv) effect of heat Pg. no.80
SA 2. To verify the law of conservation of mass in a chemical reaction. Pg. no.120
PHYSICS Q.1 Fill in the blanks (i) The S.I unit of distance is ____________________ (ii) The S.I unit of displacement is ________________ (iii) The S.I unit of speed is _____________________ (iv) The S.I unit of velocity is ____________________ (v) The S.I unit of acceleration is _________________ (vi) Two physical quantities having metre as their S.I unit are_____________ and ________________. (vii)Two physical quantities having ms-1 as their S.I unit are _________________ and
____________________. (viii) 1km/h = _____________ m/s (ix) The formula for speed is _____________ while for average speed is ________________________
(x) The rate of change of distance is called ________________. (xi) The rate of change of velocity is known as _________________. (xii) The quantity which have only magnitude is ______________ quantity while that which have both magnitude as well as direction is called _____________quantity. Q.2 Write true or false for the following statements.
(i) Displacement cannot be zero. (ii) The magnitude of the displacement is greater than distance travelled by the body. (iii) In uniform motion, the displacement covered in equal interval of time should be same whether the duration of time is small or larger. (iv) When particle is moving with a constant velocity, its acceleration is zero.
(v) A body with zero speed at an instant may have non zero acceleration at that instant. (vi) Time for a body thrown vertically upward to reach the highest point and to come down at the same point are equal. Q.3 Define following physical quantities and write their S.I unit. (a) Distance (b) Displacement (c) Speed (d) Velocity (e) Acceleration (f) Average speed. Q.4 An object moves from point P to point Q with an average speed of 60m/s and
immediately comes back from Q to point p with an average speed of 144km/h. Calculate the average speed over the whole journey in m/s.
Q.5 The velocity-time graph for motion of two bodies A and B is as shown. Read the
graph carefully and answer the following questions: 68
Chapter 8 – M oti on Teachers’ Manual
(i) Which of the two bodies has a higher velocity at time (a) t = 2s (b) t= 4s?
(ii) Which of the two bodies has (a) constant velocity (b) increasing velocity?
(iii) At what time is the velocity of the two bodies same?
(iv) What is the velocity of A and B at time t=1s?
(v) What is the change in the velocity of body B over a 2 second interval? Q.6 Observe the given (i) gaphs and (ii) information in column I and II respectively and match the two.
ENGLISH 1- Read the supplementary reader ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ carefully.( To be tested on in FA-1)
2- Write a book review of any one book of your choice, in not more than 250- 300 words .
(To be done in a separate file)
Note- Book review will be taken into account for the Formative Assessment-1
