Seems like only yesterday that we ushered in the New Year and we now find ourselves getting ready to usher in the New Year 2020. The number 2020 is interesting. For years the goal for many of us would be to have 20/20 vision, to be able to see clearly. Whether or not we have 20/20 vision, the question to ask is “what do we see?” One only has to read the daily newspaper or watch the evening news to see what is occurring around us: shootings in the streets, conflicts overseas, domestic violence, just to name a few. The months of November and December have wonderful holidays, holidays that put us in the right frame of mind. Are we not thankful on Thanksgiving Day for our many blessings, do we not rejoice in the birth of our Saviour on December 25th? Yet are these two days enough to fill our Orthodox Christian tanks? What about the ten other months of the year and what frame of mind should we be in? As we are encouraged to have physical examinations once a year for our health, do we have spiritual examinations for the health of our Christian character? It is time for self examinations of ourselves. Have we in our own way bettered the community around us? The Port Project will be at our church on December 11th-18th. This ministry is one of outreach in which the homeless are given the opportunity to be fed and housed. What a wonderful act of Christian unity it is when our parish along with our partner parishes and a realty firm come together to fulfil what needs to be done. Our parish will provide dinner and breakfast on December 15th and 16th, your help is needed not only on that date but for the entire week. Let us all seize the opportunity to assist others. INSIDE THIS ISSUE Happy Thanksgiving It was at dusk when Dennis and I took off in our two F105B Fighter Bombers en route to a refueling mission over upstate NY. By the time we reached the refueling track night had overtaken us. With the absence of the moon and a thin stratus layer that veiled the stars, it was exceptionally dark, but the tanker with its flashing lights was clearly visible. I hooked up to the tanker first and took on fuel. Then Dennis hooked up. While he was taking on his fuel I discovered problems with my flight control trim system. Additionally, I had lost my communications systems. When Dennis separated from the tanker, I was able to communicate my problems through hand signals. By this time weather had moved in and obscured our vision. Without proper communications and with flight control problems, I flew up to Dennis's wing and in a tight formation he flew me back to base and a safe landing. Figuratively speaking, I reached out and grabbed his wing and he took me home. Thereafter, I jokingly called Dennis my Shepherd, for that is what shepherds do, lead the flock home. Dennis is gone from me now. He found his own Shepherd and has gone home. Few experience the drama that Dennis and I endured, and there is certainly no more lonely time than a solitary pilot in his aircraft and in trouble. Yet, each of us in turn has had need of a little help, and oftentimes an angel reaches out and touches us, sometimes in the form of a stranger and oftentimes from some unseen hand. Can we not become someone's angel? What better way to exercise our humanity than to be a lifeline, to extend our hand to someone in need. In our daily lives we must wear the mantle of Christ even as we bear our own thorns, for according to John 15, we are in Him and He is in us. We are mere humans and in need of a shepherd to keep us on a path of righteousness. There is no better place to find that path than at Sts. Constantine and Helen where we gather in His name, for He is our Lord and Shepherd and will lead us home. Offered by Nick Vrettos, Stewardship Chairman

know that the gospel which waspreached by me is not man'sgospel. For I did not receive itfrom man, nor was I taught it,but it came through a revelationof Jesus Christ. For you haveheard of my former life inJudaism, how I persecuted the

church of God violently andtried to destroy it; and Iadvanced in Judaism beyondmany of my own age among mypeople, so extremely zealouswas I for the traditions of myfathers. But when he who hadset me apart before I was born, and had called me through hisgrace, was pleased to revealhis Son to me, in order that Imight preach him among theGentiles, I did not confer withflesh and blood, nor did I go upto Jerusalem to those who wereapostles before me, but I wentaway into Arabia; and again Ireturned to Damascus. Thenafter three years I went up toJerusalem to visit Cephas, andremained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the otherapostles except James theLord's brother.GOSPEL READINGLuke 16:19-31The Lord said, "There was a

rich man, who was clothed inpurple and fine linen and whofeasted sumptuously every day.And at his gate lay a poor mannamed Lazaros, full of sores, who desired to be fed with whatfell from the rich man's table;moreover the dogs came andlicked his sores. The poor mandied and was carried by theangels to Abraham's bosom.

But Abraham said,'Son, remember that you in yourlifetime received your goodthings, and Lazaros in likemanner evil things; but now he iscomforted here, and you are inanguish. NOVEMBER 10EPISTLE READINGGalatians 2:16-20Brethren, knowing that a man

is not justified by works of thelaw but through faith in JesusChrist, even we have believed inChrist Jesus, in order to bejustified by faith in Christ, andnot by works of the law, becauseby works of the law shall no onebe justified. But if, in ourendeavor to be justified in Christ,we ourselves were found to besinners, is Christ then an agentof sin? Certainly not! But if Ibuild up again those thingswhich I tore down, then I provemyself a transgressor. For Ithrough the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I havebeen crucified with Christ; it isno longer I who live, but Christwho lives in me; and the life Inow live in the flesh I live by faithin the Son of God, who loved me

and gave himself for me.GOSPEL READINGLuke 10:25-37At that time, a lawyer stood

up to put Jesus to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I doto inherit eternal life?" He said tohim, "What is written in the law?How do you read?" And heanswered, "You shall love theLord your God with all yourheart, and with all your soul, andwith all your strength, and withall your mind; and your neighboras yourself." And he said to him,"You have answered right; dothis, and you will live." But he,desiring to justify himself, said toJesus, "And who is myneighbor?" Jesus replied, "Aman was going down fromJerusalem to Jericho, and he fellamong robbers, who strippedhim and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now bychance a priest was going downthat road; and when he saw himhe passed by on the other side.So likewise a Levite, when hecame to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. Buta Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was; andwhen he saw him, he hadcompassion, and went to himand bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then heset him on his own beast andbrought him to an inn, and tookcare of him. And the next day hetook out two denarii and gavethem to the innkeeper, saying,'Take care of him; and whatevermore you spend, I will repay youwhen I come back.' Which ofthese three, do you think, provedneighbor to the man who fellamong the robbers?" He said,"The one who showed mercy onhim." Then, in the year240, he became bishop of hisown city, wherein he found onlyseventeen Christians. By thetime the Saint reposed about the

year 265, there were onlyseventeen unbelievers left there.Virtually the whole duration of hisepiscopacy was a time ofcontinual, marvellous wondersworked by him. Because of this,he received the surname"Wonderworker"; even theenemies of the truth called him asecond Moses (see Saint Basilthe Great's On the Holy Spirit, ch.29).Righteous Mother Hilda of

NOVEMBER 24EPISTLE READINGEphesians 2:4-10Brethren, God who is rich in

mercy, out of the great love withwhich he loved us, even whenwe were dead through ourtrespasses, made us alivetogether with Christ (by graceyou have been saved), andraised us up with him, and madeus sit with him in the heavenlyplaces in Christ Jesus, that in thecoming ages he might show theimmeasurable riches of his gracein kindness toward us in ChristJesus. For by grace you havebeen saved through faith; andthis is not your own doing, it isthe gift of God: not because ofworks, lest any man shouldboast. For we are hisworkmanship, created in ChristJesus for good works, which Godprepared beforehand, that weshould walk in them.GOSPEL READINGLuke 18:18-27At that time, a ruler came to

Jesus and asked him, "GoodTeacher, what shall I do to inheriteternal life?" And Jesus said tohim, "Why do you call me good?No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments:'Do not commit adultery, Do notkill, Do not steal, Do not bearfalse witness, Honor your fatherand mother.' " And he said, "Allthese I have observed from myyouth." And when Jesus heard it,he said to him, "One thing youstill lack. Sell all that you haveand distribute it to the poor, andyou will have treasure in heaven;and come, follow me." But whenhe heard this he became sad, forhe was very rich. Jesus lookingat him said, "How hard it is forthose who have riches to enterthe kingdom of God! For it iseasier for a camel to go throughthe eye of a needle than for arich man to enter the kingdom ofGod." Those who heard it said,"Then who can be saved?" Buthe said, "What is impossible with

    men is possible with God."
