SUMMER SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL Quill Theatre (formally Henley Street Theatre/Richmond Shakespeare) will offer productions this summer under the stars at historic Agecroft Hall. A group from Centenary will be attending a performance of “Hamlet” on Friday, July 10 at 7:30 pm. Tickets will be around $20, depending on the size of our group. Sign up on the bulletin board across from the kitchen. Following a 200-year- old tradition of female Hamlets, Richmond’s award-winning actress, Molly Hood, will take on the title role. Shakespeare lays bare his characters’ nobility and fallibility and, in that spirit, this production will investigate the implications of a modern woman as heir to an ancient throne. All the immortal passion, tumult, and force of Shakespeare’s text will shine in this contemporary kingdom, as our 21st century Hamlet contends with a feckless mother, venomous stepfather, and forbidden love. SUMMER MOVIE NIGHT! Centenary’s Fellowship Hall is being turned into a movie theatre one Sunday night each summer month. Join us on July 19 at 6:00 pm for a fun movie and of course popcorn! The featured movie for July is Disney’s “McFarland, USA” - Track coach Jim White (Kevin Costner) is a newcomer to a predominantly Latino high-school in California's Central Valley. Coach White and his new students find that they have much to learn about one another, but things begin to change when White realizes the boys' exceptional running ability. More than just physical prowess drives the teens to succeed; their strong family ties, incredible work ethic and commitment to their team all play a factor in forging these novice runners into champions. Rated PG. NURSERY CLEAN UP! On Sunday, July 12 at noon following the 11 am worship service there will be a major clean-up of our nursery and we could use your help! Lunch will be available for volunteers. If you can’t be there that day, we also need a volunteer or two to take home the curtains and linens to be washed. Please see one of our nursery workers or Ann Davis for questions. THE CONNECTION July 2015

Countless hours are given by Ryland on a volunteer basis to keep our church facility going strong and we are much appreciative of his willingness to share his expertise and dedication to Centenary in the past and for the future.
So if you want warmth in the winter and cool air in the summer, let’s each take an opportunity to thank Ryland – truly “a man for all seasons.”

NOTES FROM THE LAY LEADER Phyllis Stump
“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Matthew 21:22)
Once there was a great drought in the land. All of the people in a certain village decided that the thing to do was to gather everyone together and pray for rain. On the day of prayer, all of the people gathered to pray, but only one boy came with an umbrella.
Pray, yes, but believe!
“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will.” (Mark 11:24)
OUTREACHINGS
(Kits for UMCOR) Thank you to everyone who provided supplies and helped assemble kits for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). We were able to send to Annual Conference 56 school kits, and thanks to the United Methodist Women, who helped supply 30 health kits. Relief-supply kits help provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis. Kits help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies. They provide vital support for UMCOR’s global development work and make a tangible difference in people’s lives.
A Summer Afternoon
A languid atmosphere, a lazy breeze,
With labored respiration, moves the wheat
From distant reaches, till the golden seas
Break in crisp whispers at my feet.
My book, neglected of an idle mind,
Hides for a moment from the eyes of men;
Or lightly opened by a critic wind,
Affrightedly reviews itself again.
Off through the haze that dances in the shine
The warm sun showers in the open glade,
The forest lies, a silhouette design
Dimmed through and through with shade.
A dreamy day; and tranquilly I lie
At anchor from all storms of mental strain;
With absent vision, gazing at the sky,
"Like one that hears it rain."
The Katydid, so boisterous last night,
Clinging, inverted, in uneasy poise,
Beneath a wheat-blade, has forgotten quite
If "Katy DID or DIDN'T" make a noise.
The twitter, sometimes, of a wayward bird
That checks the song abruptly at the sound,
And mildly, chiding echoes that have stirred,
Sink into silence, all the more profound.
And drowsily I hear the plaintive strain
Of some poor dove . . . Why, I can scarcely keep
My heavy eyelids--there it is again--
"Coo-coo!"--I mustn't--"Coo-coo!"--fall asleep!

The more you praise and celebrate
your life, the more there is in life to
celebrate.
