Writing Ability is deliver from that explain of course we need to practice or express what idea in our mind in the form of list, letter, essay, reports, or novels. It is also taught to the eleventh grade students in social and language classes of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus. Therefore, the English teachers have to always help to improve the students’ writing ability.
Social Class is class which has focuses in social subject itself and just limited in learning English subject. Language Class is class which has focuses in language subject, especially in English subject.
The objective of this research is to find out the significant difference of the writing ability of the eleventh grade students between social and language classes of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013.
The design of this research is ex post facto research. The population of this research is all of eleventh grade students in social and language classes of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus. The writer takes two classes as a sample by using cluster random sampling technique, they are; class XI social 5 and XI language 1. The research instrument used by the writer is documentation of writing ability score from English teacher of class XI social 5 and class XI language 1 of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus.
The result shows that in level of significance 0.05 and degree of freedom 52, there is a significant difference between writing ability of the eleventh grade students in social and language classes of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013. It is shown from the calculation result t-obtained is 4, meanwhile t-table is 2.201. It means that the null hypothesis is rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted (ݐ= 4 > t-table = 2.021). The writing ability of eleventh grade students in social class is good (Mean = 73.74 and SD = 11.65). However, the writing ability of the eleventh grade students in language class is excellent (Mean = 76.94 and SD = 11.58).
Based on the fact above, it proves that writing ability between the eleventh grade students in social and language classes of SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 is different.
The conclusion is that the writing ability of the eleventh grade students of language class is better than the writing ability of the eleventh grade students of social class of SMA1 Mejobo Kudus in Academic Year 2012/2013.

The suggestions are (1) before measuring the students’ writing ability, a teacher has to know how students interested in English, especially for writing, (2) the students must be brave to ask to their teacher when they face some difficulties in writing, (3) the further researcher can compare other ability of social and language classes.

Kemampuan menulis adalah penyampaian dari penjelasan secara tertulis yang tentunya membutuhkan praktik atau mengekspresikan ide apa saja yang ada didalam pikiran kita dalam bentuk daftar, surat, esai, laporan atau novel. Hal itu sudah diajarkan oleh guru bahasa Inggris pada siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas IPS dan Bahasa. Untuk itu, guru bahasa Inggris harus selalu membantu meningkatkan kemampuan menulis para siswa.
Kelas IPS adalah kelas yang mempelajari pelajaran tentang ilmu sosial itu sendiri dan hanya mempelajari bahasa Inggris secara terbatas.
Kelas Bahasa adalah kelas yang mempelajari pelajaran tentang bahasa, khususnya bahasa Inggris.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui perbedaan signifikan antara kemampuan menulis antara siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas IPS dan Bahasa pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013.
Desain penelitian ini adalah penelitian ex post facto. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Peneliti mengambil dua kelas sebagai sampel dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling, kelas tersebut adalah kelas sebelas IPS 5 dan kelas sebelas Bahasa 1. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan oleh peneliti adalah dokumentasi hasil nilai kemampuan menulis dari guru bahasa Inggris yang mengajar di kelas IPS dan Bahasa di SMA Mejobo Kudus.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada tingkat signifikan 0.05 dan derajat kebebasan 53 ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis antara siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas IPS dan kelas Bahasa pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Hal ini terlihat dari hasil perhitungan t-obtained adalah 4, sementara itu, t-table adalah 2.021. Itu artinya, hipotesis null ditolak dan hipotesis alternative diterima. (t-obtained = 4> t-table = 2.021). Kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas IPS pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 hasilnya termasuk bagus (Mean = 73.74 dan SD = 11.65). Namun, kemampuan menulis siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas Bahasa pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 hasilnya termasuk memuaskan (Mean = 76.94 dan SD = 11.58).
Berdasarkan hasil di atas, ini membuktikan bahwa kemampuan menulis antara siswa kelas sebelas SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus yang belajar di kelas IPS dan Bahasa pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 berbeda.

Kesimpulannya adalah kemampuan menulis pada siswa kelas sebelas yang belajar di kelas bahasa lebih baik daripada kemampuan menulis pada siswa kelas sebelas yang belajar dikelas IPS di SMA 1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 Saran-saranya adalah (1) sebelum mengukur emampuan menulis para siswa seorang guru harus mengetahui minat belajar bahasa Inggris pada siswa terutama pada pelajaran menulis, (2) para siswa harus berani bertanya pada guru ketika menghadapi kesulitan dalam pelajaran menulis, (3) untuk peneliti selanjutnya, supaya meneliti kemampuan selain menulis pada siswa yang belajar di kelas IPS dan bahasa.
