The

Coinage

of

Alexandreia Kaťisson

in Cilicia

EDOARDO LEVANTE

[see

17-19]

The

coinage

of Asia Minor

has

long

been

studied

by many

numismatists

and

an

important

iterature

as

been

published

n that field.

Lately,

the

publication

f the v. Aulock

collectionhas added

considerablematerial o

the

knowledge

of numismatic

istory

f

that

area

during

the

classical,

Hellenistic,

nd Roman

period.

A

corpus

of Asia Minor was

startedwith the Recueil Général'

which

covered

Pontus,

Paphlagonia,

nd

Bithynia nly;

this

was followed

by

the

publications

f the

Kgl.

Akademieder

Wissenschaften,

erlin,

whichdealt

withMysia,up to Cisthene.

After

hat,

no serious

ttempt

ppears

to have been made to continue he

preparation

f a

corpus

of

thecoins of Asia

Minor;

there s no needto stress

the

mportance

f such a work.

High

expenses

nd

ever-increasing

ifficultiesre

making,

more han

ever,

such

work

impossible

o

accomplish;

consequently,

he best

approach

to

overcome he

problem

hould

be the

preparation

f

corpora

covering ingle

cities.

Some

gaps

have

already

een

filled

y

theworks f eminent

umismatists,

by

the

publication

of

many sylloges

nd the studies

of the

coinage

of

numerous ities;there s, however,till long wayto go.

As far s Cilicia s

concerned,

wouldmore

Witha fineHellenistic ead of
