By now, most health conscious people have already heard about the importance of vitamin D for promoting health and preventing illness. Join us as we explore how this vitamin is so essential to our health and wellbeing.
Vitamin D was discovered back in 1921, but until recently was only thought to provide benefits for bone health and to prevent rickets and osteoporosis. But in recent years, scientists have come to realize that vitamin D’s benefits go far beyond just bone health. Vitamin D has been found to be associated with almost every major disease and condition known to humans. From its immune- stimulating effects to its implications in heart disease and its benefits in even mental and emotional conditions, the question arises; what can vitamin D not do?
The vitamin D experts believe that everyone should be taking supplements. Vitamin D deficiency is so widespread that according to some studies, as much as 90% of people have sub-optimal levels. So why is vitamin D deficiency so widespread?
Vitamin D is not really found in sufficient quantities in our diet. We are supposed to be getting the bulk of it from the sunlight. But our government has scared us to death of even the slightest exposure to sun rays, to the extent that most people, even when out in the sun, will not produce vitamin D. This is because either they don’t expose their skin to the sun’s rays or because they cover themselves with sun screen, which blocks vitamin D synthesis. In any case, however, in the northern latitudes where we live, during most of the year, we will not produce Vitamin D because of the angle of the sun. A good way to know if you are producing vitamin D is to look at
your shadow. If it’s longer then you, you are not producing this essential vitamin.
The end of winter is the time when people are lowest in vitamin D because our bodies are unable to produce it throughout the winter, due to a lack of proper sunlight exposure, which is necessary for vitamin D synthesis. That’s why, if you want to determine just how deficient you are in Vitamin D, now is the time to take a blood test. This will show you your lowest point throughout the year. An adequate vitamin D level will be at least 50ng/ml and up to 80 is fine.

you need to supplement is really through a 25(OH)D blood test. As a general rule, though, the vitamin D council recommends:
•Healthy children under the age of 1 year – 1,000 IU.
•Healthy children above the age of 1
year – 1,000 IU per every 25 lbs of body weight.
•Healthy adults and adolescents – at least 5,000 IU.
•Expecting and lactating mothers - at least 6,000 IU.
1. Clean Glass. Mixed with water or simply sprayed full-strength on glass and mirrors, vinegar does a great job quickly and easily. Simply wipe windows dry with crumpled-up newspapers and watch your windows sparkle.
2. Clean your car. Use it full-strength to polish car chrome with a cloth and see it shine! Use it on your car’s windshield and windows, too.
3. Clean drinking glasses. Soak cloudy drinking glasses in warmed white vinegar for a few hours to remove the film, simply wipe clean, rinse, and dry.
4. Clean your washing machine. Periodically run a gallon of distilled vinegar through your washing machine to clean it thoroughly, get rid of soap scum, and clear out the hoses. Run the machine through the warm water wash cycle empty and then add the vinegar during the rinse cycle.
5. Furniture Polish. Make your own furniture polish with one part vinegar and three parts lemon oil or olive oil.
6. Remove price tags or stickers. Paint them with several coats of vinegar and let it soak in. Depending what you are removing them off of is whether they’ll slide off easily or require a little heavier rubbing.

8. Clean paintbrushes Simmer paintbrushes in pure vinegar, then wash in hot soapy water.
9. Wash walls. Wipe down your walls with a vinegar-water mixture and it will help absorb odors and clean the surfaces.
