About a hundred years ago, a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror, read his name in the obituary column. The news papers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock. Am I here or there? When he regained his composure, his second thought was to find out what people had said about him. The obituary read, “Dynamite King Dies.” And also “He was the merchant of death.” This man was the inventor of dynamite and when he read the words “merchant of death,” he asked himself a question, “Is this how I am going to be remembered?” He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. From that day on, he started working toward peace. His name was Alfred Nobel and he is remembered today by the Nobel Prize.

This Pesach Let us Handle The Baby's


In our previous issue we discussed how diet and lifestyle affect our energy levels. Sometimes though, focusing exclusively on dietary and lifestyle changes may not be sufficient. This is particularly true if you are overworked and drained of all energy. This is where nutritional supplements can prove to be helpful. Nevertheless, it is important to keep in mind that there is no magic bullet that will instantly transform you into a healthy person. A healthy diet and lifestyle are fundamental to your health, and supplements are just, well... a ‘supplement’ to your diet.

CarnitineCarnitine is an amino acid found in animal protein. Carnitine boosts our cells on the molecular level, acting like the gas for our mitochondria - our cells’ powerhouses. Though carnitine is one of the best energy enhancers, especially for weaker and middle-aged individuals, it may not be such a practical supplement as it tends to be quiet pricey.

CoQ10CoQ10 works hand in hand with Carnitine in helping our cells produce the energy our bodies need. Though CoQ10 is synthesized by our body, it tends to decline with age. CoQ10 is not a very cheap supplement either, though you can find some from the Solgar brand, which is more affordable. CoQ10 should be taken with a meal that includes fats.

Magnesium Magnesium is an essential mineral, and according to some studies, over 80% of

people are deficient in magnesium. When we are stressed, our magnesium levels drop, so supplementing is very important. Magnesium is affordable and easy to take. It comes in tablet and powder form.

Washing Pillows:

Pillows should be washed at least twice a year (the covers once a month, along with your mattress cover). Check the care label to confirm that your pillow (down or synthetic) can be machine washed - most can be. Use mild liquid detergent rather than a powder to avoid residue. Wash a pair of pillows together to keep the machine balanced and run them through the rinse cycle twice to rinse them fully.

Drying Pillows:

For down and feathers, use the air cycle and dry very fully. Make sure they are completely dry as dampness left in the pillow can lead to mold. For synthetics, use the low heat setting as high heat can cause clumping. Throwing in a couple of ten-nis balls wrapped in white socks during the dryer cycle helps to refluff the pillows without transferring dyes.

How to get chewing gum out of carpet or floor mats:

Start at one side of the gum spot and work your way to the other, rubbing in the same direction while applying WD-40.

As clumps of gum come up, remove them with a rag.

When all gum is removed, wipe the area with the clean part of the rag.

Cleaning the Microwave

Cleaning a microwave is easy. Fill up a cup of water and place it in microwave on high for a few minutes. The steam from the cup will loosen any stuck-on food, and then you can just wipe it away. It’s that simple.
