On Thursday May 26, 2016, we went to the Andover Country Club to do our 3rd

annual Vinfen Recovery Celebration Event. Boy what a night. Once again, great

food, great service and great company from other places. Thank you to all of

Clubhouse Craft Fair 2016

unit, we had another

very successful craft

fair!

With all of our handmade

crafts, we also sold

barbeque food and snacks;

brought in a popcorn

machine and a cotton candy

machine! We had burgers,

dogs, sausages, brownies

and ice cream cones! It was

a real summer kick off

treat!

In total, we sold almost

$400 dollars of food and

crafts, paintings, afghans,

scarves, puzzles, drawings,

jewelry and other

trinkets! Thank you to

Remembering Prince

1958-2016

He was known as the purple one, due to his debut movie and mega smash hit “Purple Rain”. He had achieved

greatness with hits such as “When Doves Cry”, “little red corvette” and “ Raspberry Beret” also my personal

favorite “Gold”.

Prince Rogers Nelson who many people know as the iconic and musical genius prince was born on June 7,

1958 to Mattie Della who was a Jazz singer and John Lewis Nelson who was a pianist and songwriter. Prince

was named after his father who stage name was Prince Rodgers.

The award winning singer of the mega hit “Purple Rain” developed an interest in music as a young child. At

18, he signed with Warner Bros and released his first album “for you” in 1978.

One of his biggest concerts of his career which also had the largest fan base was at super bowl XLI halftime

show. He performed on 2.4. 07 in Miami Florida. His stage was big and in the shape of his famous symbol.

140 million people viewed his performance on national television. The website billbord.com graded his su-

per bowl performance as the successful performance to ever play at the super bowl.

To me prince was a huge part of my childhood. His song “Gold” helped me through a very rough time in my

life.

Bruins 2015-2016 Season Recap

For the second straight season, the Boston Bruins ended up in the

standings with the 9th spot and missed the playoffs by a few games. It was

such a disappointing season. At the start of the season, fans did not know

how the team would do because they lost two key players during the off-

season: leader / enforcer Milan Lucic with the Kings due to a trade and

young gun defensiveman Dougie Hamilton with a lot of drama got traded to

the Flames. Many people though he would be Zdeno Chara’s replacement.

Even though the team lost both of them, the B’s had so much talent and

should be a playoff team, but couldn’t put it together. On top of that, they

have choked in the last month this season and last season. The B’s record in

their final 10 games of this season was 3-6-1. As the term goes in sports,

“home ice advantage”, was not the case this season. The Bruins struggled at

the Garden that they could not pass the .500 mark with a 17-18-6 record. The

team did a lot better on the road resulting in a record of 25-13-3. Overall, the

Bruins compiled a 42-31-9 record, which is still impressive. Also, the B’s

outscored their opponents 240-230.

The Bruins starting goalie Tuukka Rask has always been dependable

during his career, even earning an all-star spot along with winning the Vez-

ina Trophy (top goalie in the NHL) in 2014. This year, fans learned that he is human after all. Rask had his

worst season of his career because he was inconsistent, especially during the beginning of the season. He did

win 31 in 64 games he played in; but, he lost a career high 22 games as well. He also had the worst save per-

centage of his career posting .915. Moreover, he recorded a 2. 56 goals against average record. In his career,

the only year he struggled more was in 2010-2011 season with a 2.67 gga.

The Bruins has had a great captain in Zdeno Chara, since he joined the team in 2006-2007. “Big Z”

holds the NHL record being the tallest player at 6’9 as many opponents do not test him. He also holds the fast-

est shot in the NHL All-Star Game Superskills Competition with an impressive 108.8 miles per hour shot slap

in 2012. A cool fact is that he has won that challenge an astounding 5 times. The defensiveman has been a

beast all of his career and will most likely be a hall-of-famer one day. He is a 6 time all-star and won the James

Norris Memorial Trophy (best defensiveman in 2008-2009). Z is a special type of player because he is versa-

tile for his speed, strength and a great leader for the team, especially to the young guys. Most likely, he will

have a few more seasons left. The 39 year old has regressed a bit and lost some of his speed. Still, Chara had

an impressive season with 9 goals, 27 assists and 38 points.

One of the worst trades the Bruins want back trading away was their 2nd overall pick in 2010, Tyler Se-

guin. One of the reasons why they traded him in the summer of 2013 was off the ice problems / issues. Seguin

did not have the best attitude to the point where team security had look after him wherever he went. Keep in

mind that he was very young. He also struggled in the playoffs. Seguin is an amazing offensive player, but

during the 2012-2013 playoffs, he only scored 1 goal in 22 games. Giving his high potential, the B’s should

have never traded him away because he is currently one of the best players in the league these days. The 2 time

all-star with Dallas compiled 33 goals (10th best in the league), 40 assists and 73 points (14th best in league).

One of the players the Bruins picked up in the Seguin trade was Loui Erikkson. Both Erikkson and

David Krejci were in the top 30 players with points (63). Errickson was also a top 30 player scoring 30 goals

(3rd highest on the team) and posted 33 assists. Krejci scored 17 goals and dished out 46 assists (17th best in the

league). Bruins enforcer Adam McQuaid only had 1 goal and 8 assists (9 points) was second on the team in

penalty minutes with 89 minutes. Many of those minutes were due to fighting.

The most surprising fight of the season was on May 7th when McQuaid was trading fists with his for-

mer Boston Bruins teammate Shawn Thornton. Who won the fight? Thornton did with key punches at the end

of the fight. After that, many fans speculated / questioned if those two players had drama before, especially

when they both with the Bruins. Thornton was one of the top enforcers on the team before the Bruins cut him

loose a 2 seasons ago. Many B’s fans still cringe over the team letting him go. Thornton loved Beantown and

was a key player for the Bruins during his time in Boston because he was one of the best fighters, one of the

best leaders, one of the best role players and he was an energizer. Also, former Bruins player Blake Wheeler

had an amazing season with the Winnipeg Jets (26 goals, 52 assists and 78 points).

Another veteran defensiveman is Dennis Seidenberg (who wears #44). Even though he was injured for

part of the season, Seidenberg scored 1 goal, 11 assists adding up to 12 points. During this upcoming season,

there are trade rumors that the Bruins could trade Seidenberg. The Bruins are not in a rebuilding stage, but they

are transitioning into youth movement with effective veterans’ leadership. The B’s have became a fast paced

team the past few seasons and many people think the 34 year old is slowing the speed down. One valuable

player that will help quicken the play is 25 year old defensiveman Torey Krug. He had 40 assists, which was

second on the team behind Krejci. In addition, Krug put 4 goals in the net and compiled 44 points. Another

young speedster is center Ryan “Spoondawg” Spooner (24 years old). He was 5th on the team with 49 points

scoring 13 goals and dishing out 36 assists. Even though Spooner had an 8% shooting percentage on 162 shots,

he displayed great shoot selection. “Spoondawg” is very versatile and he had many unlucky bounces / shot at-

tempts that just could not find the net.

Another versatile player that shows amazing moves while skating with the puck is Brad Marchand. In

fact, Marchand is close with his former teammate Seguin and also friends with my second cousin UFC fighter

Charles Rosa, my childhood friend Jonathan Joiner and his Jonathan’s wife Courtney. Brad is not only a great

person, but he is one of the best and exciting players not only on the Bruins, but in the league. The two time all

-star had a breakout season. The 28 year old left-winger posted a career high in goals with 37 (led team and 6th

best in the league) and points with 61. Marchand also had 27 assists, was second on the team with a 14.80 shot

percentage and led the team in penalty minutes with 90. Marchand is one of the best fighters in the league,

which is impressive because he is 5’9. Many think he is not at his prime yet and still reaching his potential so

he is going to be a dominant force in the league for years to come for the Bruins. In fact, he could be a future

hall-of-famer and be honored by having his number 63 retired in the legendary Boston Garden rafters with the

other Boston greats.

One other player that has been a dominant force since he joined the Bruins as an 18 year old is Patrice

Bergeron. Boston fans have had an honor to watch the face of the franchise grow up and become one of the

best Bruins to ever play and one of the greatest leaders as well. He is currently 30 years old and has many

more promising seasons. Many fans think the team should retire his jersey after his final season; but, that will

not be for long time. He is one of the biggest fan favorites not only in Boston, but in the whole NHL. He does

a lot of community service and he earned the spot to be the official cover athlete of the NHL 15 video game.

In fact, “Bergy” and his wife Stephanie welcomed their first child in October. They got married in 2013 after

dating for many years. The Bruins center could potentially be a hall-of-famer as he has had many accolades

already. In 2003, the Bruins drafted “Bergy” 45th overall and skipped the minors to join the big club for his

first season. He did play in the minors the next year because of the NHL lockout. In 2007 during his 10th game,

Bergeron suffered a season-ending head injury with a grade 3 concussion. Many people thought that he would

never play again or he would never be the same type of player ever again. Bergeron proved all of the haters

wrong. Since then, he has played in 4 all star games, won the gold medal in the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olym-

pics with Team Canada (Bergeron is from Quebec), he won the Selke Trophy 3 times awarding the best defen-

sive forward and won the NHL King Clancy Memorial Trophy Award in 2012-2013 for his leadership and hu-

Monday April 25th, we learned that the Court of Appeals by a 2-1 decision, upheld the NFL Commissioner's

decision to suspend Tom Brady for four games. Brady will miss the first 4 games of the upcoming season.

While the Court's decision was widely predicted in legal circles, I felt it was outrageous. I will try to find a link

to the dissenting opinion by the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals and post it.

In the dissent, the Chief Justice pointed out that the Commissioner drew conclusions that were unwarranted by

the evidence, and came up with a penalty that was far, far greater that penalties for other similar offenses.

The dissenting opinion pointed out that the penalty for using stickum to help make a ball more catchable, very

analagous to what Brady is accused of, is about $8,000. Even the second offense for that is $16,000 with no

suspension. The Commissioner in this case simply invented a punishment for an offense that there is very little

to conclude that Brady ever committed. The dissent said that the Commissioner's decision was not based upon

the evidence or the collective bargaining agreement but upon "his own brand of industrial justice."

The dissent concluded by saying that it is ironic

that a process that was designed to insure fairness

to all players was being used unfairly against one

player."

In his 820 games with the team, he has scored 238 goals, 380 assists and 618 points. In fact, he had a

career high this season with 32 goals, which was 14th best in the league. “Bergy” set up 36 assists and recorded

a team high with 68 points, which placed 18th highest in the league. He also took the most shots on the team

with 282 (7th overall in the league) and his shot percentage was 11.30%.

Early this off-season, Bruins general manager Don Sweeney and president Cam Neely (two Bruins leg-

ends as players) announced that the head coach Claude Julien will remain with the B’s for the upcoming sea-

son. Many fans liked the decision even though many fans thought he would be gone. Julien is such a great

coach that during this season, he has become the most winning coach for the storied franchise of the Bruins.

The 2016 draft could be big for the B’s because they have two picks in the first round: the 14th and 27th. These

picks could be very influential with the Bruins youth movement. One question is

will they trade Tuukka Rask? Hopefully, the Bruins can pick up a young and

faster defenseman and make positive moves during the off-season to better the

team. The overall goal is to become a top playoff team again. The B’s has a

promising future. After the Bruins won the Stanley Cup Finals Championship in

2011, the Bruins have been close, but no cigar. If the moons align right (which is

a very good chance), we could see the Bruins back to the top and win a champi-

onship within the next half decade.
