The 88th Annual
New Years Invitational
As described in the December article we have a full field which will be ready to go on January 9th. A few cancella-tions have allowed us to actually improve the quality of the field by adding several fine players from the waiting list. Late additions include Sam Horsfield, a high school junior from Orlando who won Florida’s State Amateur Championship by 11 shots this past summer. You may be familiar with the Fox Hollow course near Pinellas County’s north border. Young Mr. Horsfield shot 62 there in qualifying for the USGA Public Links Championship later in the year.
Another fine young player coming in as a late entrant is Gavin Hall from Rochester, New York. Gavin played in the US Open at Merion this past summer and played outstandingly this fall as a freshman at the University of Texas. And Joe Alfieri will now be back to defend his New Year’s mid-amateur title. Over the past ten years Joe has logged victories in many of Florida’s significant amateur events.
These 3 and others should challenge defending champ Toni Hakula in what should prove to be a well-contested event. Richard Hope Tournament Chairman

Tennis Talk………. It’s hard to believe that 2014 is upon us. So far we’ve had a warm winter like last year. Hopefully we’ll have a mild winter with more time on the tennis court. The Club Mixed Doubles Championships will be first weekend of February, the first and second. We’ll have A and B divisions this year, so recruit your best tennis friend of the opposite sex and give the tournament a try. The Men’s and Ladies Doubles Club Championships will be held April 5th and 6th. The Raymond James Super-Senior Grand Prix will be held February 24-March 2. Some of the best senior players in the country and around the world will play this event. There are 8 age divisions from 55 and over, up to 90 and over. It’s amazing what these players can do with the ball. I hope you can come out to see some great tennis. If you would like to contribute to the tournament, ads are available in the tournament program. You can also help the tournament by volunteering to house a player. I have been emailing tennis players about court conditions and tennis events. If you would like to receive these blasts, write me at [email protected] or call the shop at 867-9105 and give me your email address. We are now in the busy season so please be sure to call ahead and book a court for night play as well as for morning play. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are our busiest mornings, and Tuesday and Wednesday are the busiest nights for play.
See you on the courts, Sam Vuille Tennis Professional

It's that time again.......The 2014 TBS Chili Salsa Bowl is right around the corner. Last year's event was a tremendous success! Tampa Bay Society, our 13 contestants and 300+ guests successfully raised over $4000 and collected 300+lbs of food and bedding. It is through gracious people and businesses like you, who give of their time and effort to make a difference to a worthwhile cause. Your support enables the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to continue their dedication to ending animal homelessness and providing care and comfort for companion animals in need. Four lucky dogs were given forever homes from last year's event alone!
We are hopeful that 2014 will be even bigger and better and are currently seeking out sponsors and contestants to support our 3rd Annual event on Saturday, January 11th, 2014 at East Lake Woodlands Country Club.
