We have games and prizes for all ages and a staff pumpkin carving contest with proceeds benefiting Mission to Mexico.
Sign up at the Information Center to bring chili, soup or stew for the cook-off, a dessert for the pumpkin walk, or to help where needed most.
If you have questions, contact Laurie Dyer in the church office, 503-363-9273.
Bites of Bread from Bob I am excited to share with you two key areas of ministry in our church life that will be expanding. These are in the areas of ministry to our Young Adults (those who have graduated from High School but have not yet established a family) and Young Marrieds. Not only do we have people who will fill roles of leadership in these areas, they are people of top notch quality.
For Young Adults, Lydia Dettwyler will be directing our ministry. Lydia grew up
in the Silverton Christian Church and many of the Young Adults in our church already know her through Regional activities and Mission to Mexico trips. This last Spring, she returned from working at the El Faro Orphanage that was built by volunteers
from Oregon. She is currently working at The Home Place Restaurant in Silverton.
For Young Marrieds, Scott & Julie Towery will be directing our ministry. It has been our delight to get to know Scott and Julie and their four incredible daughters as they have grown up in our church. Scott is an Ag teacher at Silverton High School. Julie runs a daycare out of their home.
The desire for both groups is to establish a monthly event that will enable them to connect spiritually and socially beyond our normal Sunday morning worship times. Please keep these leaders and their groups in your prayers.
God Bless, Pastor Bob

Giving Envelopes A dedicated group of members, known as the Sunday Counters, is responsible for counting and banking each Sunday offering. They are requesting that regu-lar givers who are not using the e-giving process, use offering envelopes to make the counting easier and more efficient.
What members may not know: each loose check not in an offering envelope, must be recorded on a sepa-rate page in order to provide an end-of-the-year total for each person or family. If your giving is in the form of cash and you do not use a numbered enve-lope, there is no way to provide a record of your giv-ing.
New 2015 giving envelopes will be available in the last weeks of December. There is an option of weekly or once-a-month envelopes. Call FCC Treas-urer, Arty Day, at 503-581-1206, to add your name to the offering envelope list or drop a note in the offer-ing trays.
Huge Thank You! Les & Linda pass along a huge sincere and heartfelt
thank you to the Salem FCC church family. Our church family was able to provide much-needed items to their family as they transition out of Salem Interfaith Hospi-tality Network and into their own place. Thank you! Thank you!
Their new baby girl is due this coming week! Please pray for a safe and healthy delivery.

A Warm Welcome On September 28 at the 9:30 am service, Patsy Hutson and her sons Pat and Joe Birdsong came forward to place their membership with Salem First Christian Church. Pat started coming a few months ago, soon his mother started joining him, and before long, his brother Joe became a regular as well. We are delighted that they have chosen to unite them-selves with our congregation.
Condolences Carl, the brother of Carole Adams and Joan Behen, passed away on September 18. Carl was Carole's twin brother. Please remember them and their fami-lies in your prayers.
Thank You Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for your prayers, cards and offers of help during my recent surgery. Your support has made a difference and means a great deal to us. My recovery is going very well. Special thanks to Pastor Bob Hanna for his hospital visits and encouragement. Sally and I appreciate you all. God Bless each of you.
With warm regards, Chuck and Sally Austin Donation Update
One of the fun activities at the Church Picnic was the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge given to staff members. The congregation put money into cans labeled with a name of a staff member, and the person with the most donations would take the Ice Bucket Challenge. They were such good sports that they all took the challenge.
It was great fun for a worthy cause. The total dona-tions came to $216.88. The funds were sent to Team Cure ALS Foundation that helps Oregonians with ALS, known as Lou Gehrigs’ Disease.

HARVEST PARTY: A Celebration of Blessings Last year, we began calling our Harvest Party A Celebration of Blessings. It stuck, so we want to do it again, and invite all our friends and family to come together to celebrate our many blessings.
This church is a family and we have a lot to be thank-ful for. We have many in our congregation who have made our church what it is today and we have many who will carry it into the future. We are all different, but we all come together to praise Jesus. Let us gather to celebrate on OCTOBER 26 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall.
This will be a party to celebrate Jesus. It’s a party to celebrate family, friends, neighbors and you along with the bounty of love God has shared with us. So bring your loved ones as well as your talents, time, soup, desserts and dancing shoes to celebrate God’s bounty together. Let’s celebrate each other.
Volunteers still needed for: ACTIVITIES SET UP AND/OR CLEAN UP TO MAKE POTS OF CHILI/SOUP/STEW DESSERTS FOR THE PUMPKIN WALK
The staff will have a pumpkin carving contest to benefit Mission to Mexico. Bring your coins and dollars to vote on which staff member has the best creative carving.
Call Laurie at 503-363-9273 if you want to help or if you have any questions.
Happy Autumn, Laurie
Ramblings from Riane Ciao! I have returned from my study abroad experi-ence in Italy and am ready for what this fall has in store! I would like to thank everyone who has been praying for my safe travels as well as those who taught Sunday school and worked with the youth dur-ing my absence.
Recently, I heard the words from 1 Samuel 16:7 - But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. Peo-ple look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." It was the last sentence of this verse that struck me. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. God sees the integrity of our heart and knows that beauty lies within.
Between the peer pressure and media, it is easy for individuals, especially those in their adolescent years, to get caught up in worrying about their outward ap-pearance. Instead of purchasing clothes to expand our wardrobe, we should be searching for ways to “accessorize” our heart. When negative feelings of envy or jealousy linger within, we need to let our hearts remind us of where beauty really comes from. Making our hearts acceptable and pleasing to our Creator is far more beautiful than any one person’s looks. Mark your calendars!
Sunday, October 19 – The youth group will be going to Bauman Farms! Lunch will be provided at noon and we will return to the church at 5:00 pm. There is a suggested $10 for extra spending or activi-ties - one activity is included. Saturday, November 15 - Youth Lock-In at the church.
Providing lunch for the youth after Sunday school (12:00 pm) is a great way to interact with those in-volved in our youth program. A sign-up sheet is lo-cated on the youth bulletin board.
Scheduling Church Equipment To schedule the use of equipment for Sunday School classes, events or meetings, please call the church during the week, 503-363-9273. Thank you.
Christmas Treasures Sale? It seems early to start talking about the Christmas Treasures Sale, but for our crafters, knitters, cro-cheters, bakers and seamstresses, it may be late. The ladies who donate preserves probably already have them in their cupboards.
Your donations last year generated $900+ for the CWF treasury and it was put to good use. Thank you for your generosity. Let's try for $1000+ this year.
Cheryl Clendennen and Joan Lloyd Flower Calendar
The Flower Calendar is on the bulletin board by the staff offices.
Please consider sharing your memo-ries and celebrations with your church family through flowers.
Thank you.
Email Prayer Group If you would like to start receiving the emails of our congregation’s prayer requests, please let Melissa know by email at: [email protected].
Rebuilders’ Coast Fieldtrip All Are Welcome At the recent Rebuilders gathering we chose to have the October 28 gathering on the road to the beach. We will gather in the parking lot at 9:30 for a depar-ture to the Oregon beach.
Please sign up at the Information Center -- we are opening this adventure to any and all of the church.
Sign up -- bring a sack lunch -- a few dollars for gas reimbursement -- desire to spend time with each other AND "rebuilding" your relationship with the God of creation!
Any questions contact Allison Pfaff at 503-390-0241.
