Thank You from Allison Pfaff In the past, the Oregon Region of the Disciples of Christ donated money for a boat to be used in the mission field of the Congo. The boat was named OREGON. According to the 150th Anniversary Book of Salem First Christian, Hattie Mitchell was a “living link” to the Congo. While I attended NCC. . . before it was NCU… I lived in Wells Hall. That dorm hall was named after the wonderful Goldie Ruth Wells, another dedicated missionary from Salem FCC to the Congo. In 2014 the family of Salem FCC gave enough money to build 5 WATER WELLS in the Congo in my honor. Although I will not be in the Congo, your thoughtfulness allows another LINK in the Congo.
For the Sunday, March 30, I will be grateful for the rest of my life. Your love and dedication to Salem FCC means everything to me. You are a wonderful chosen family of God. Thank you all for your kind words, cards, hugs, music, prayer shawlssssssssssss and the 5 WATER WELLS.
In the last Church Scroll, Pastor Bob wrote of all the things that happened. Thank you for those words, as this article would be too many words for Melissa to allow in a publication.
I am on a glorious road trip to see my family in Oklahoma and Georgia with my car, the book “Oh, The Places I Shall Go” and my camera. My traveling companion is a very special, dear and life changing friend… Jesus. In His beautiful name, EMMANUEL . . . I love you and thank you for the past 19 years and your send off!
God’s Speed…Allison, WHO IS RETIRED!
Thank You Thank you all for the encouragement, cards and prayers. They are certainly very much appreciated. Our praying church is amazing.
Ed Gish Dear Family, I just want to thank all my prayer warriors, cooks, card writers, callers, visitors and especially my sis and her husband, Carole & Richard Adams, for all the gifts of love and servitude during my recovery from knee surgery. Unless you have been there, you can not know how much it means.
Thank you, Joan Behen

Children and Youth A Little Light from Laurie CHILDREN’S EASTER WORSHIP 10:00 am Nursery: Main floor for birth-3 yrs. Children’s Church : lower level for 4 yrs-1st grade. Children in 2nd-5th grades may sit with their families in the service. “Shout to the Lord with joy, everyone on earth. Wor-ship the Lord with gladness. Come to him with songs of joy, ” Psalm 100:1-2. What a joy it was to see our children sing with the adult choir on Sunday. It is such a blessing when our children can share the gift of God’s love through music with our church family. Every Sunday our children have the opportunity to sing and pray with Ms. Kim Resch and with Christine Sinibaldi. They sing old favorites and new ones. Over the last 22 years, I have watched our church children grow up sharing their musical talents with the congregation. Many of those children have ex-pressed gratitude to the Children’s Sunday School music programs because it helped give them confi-dence for public speaking later in their lives. Music time happens during the Sunday School hour every Sunday from 9:45-10:45 am. I hope your children get to share in making a joyful noise to the Lord. Coming up, April 27, our Junior Youth Fellowship group is meeting for lunch and fun with the Buck-master family at 12:15 pm in the JYF room, upstairs. Please bring a sack lunch. If the weather is good, we will be heading outside for some fun in the sun. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL! July 20-24, 6:00-8:30 p.m. This year’s theme is WEIRD ANIMALS, Where Jesus’ love is One of a Kind! This is a VBS like no other. It will be fun and unique. We are celebrating how God made each of us unique in His image and no matter what, Jesus loves us. We are looking for volunteers to celebrate with us. Please contact Laurie Dyer or Betty Charnholm. Mark your calendars for August 11-15 for JYF camp, grades 3rd -5th (the grade finished the spring of 2014). More info to come soon.
Enjoy God’s beautiful creation this week!
With joy, Laurie
Ramblings from Riane “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for-ever.” Psalm 23
As a little girl, I had these verses from Psalm 23 in a picture frame that hung on the wall near my bed. I would read it all the time in passing. However, as many times as I have read that chapter, I never quite understood it the way I did after this week when I taught about Jesus as our shepherd in Sunday school. Sometimes it takes multiple readings and years of growth for God’s word to resonate in a different way. That is the beauty of having a personal relationship with God. As you grow and mature in your walk with Him, so does your understanding of His word.
Just a reminder that there will be no Sunday school or youth group on Easter Sunday and we will have youth group as normal on April 27. If you are inter-ested in providing lunch for the youth that Sunday, please let me know or sign up on the youth bulletin board.
Mission to Ecuador Information The mission trip dates are July 10 - 22. We will again be working through FEDICE, a local mission organization.
The indigenous people do all the leading and skilled work. We are there to assist them as needed.
If you are interested or have questions, the contact person is Rick Ikeda. He can be reached at 503-798-7221 or [email protected].

Check It Out! While praying for Ed Gish and sending him a card this week, I was reminded of the movie “The Miracle of the Cards.”
This movie is based on the true story of an English boy suffering from a brain tumor. As treatments be-gan, friends sent him encouraging cards. His mother hung them over his hospital bed and told him each card represented a prayer. By the end of the story this child was miraculously cured and received 1.3 million cards.
Paul, in Ephesians, tells us God is able to do far more than we ask or imagine according to His power within us. Let’s not underestimate the power of an encouraging card.
Find “The Miracle of the Cards” with the DVD’s under the back counter of your library (Call # DVD ChrLiv BRI).
