Dear Friends in Christ, One of the games I have always enjoyed playing with campers our Lutheran Camp Chrysalis is “My Train.” It goes like this. You point to an object or a person and say something like, “My train goes from that chair to Sally sitting over there, but that doesn’t work.” Then you point to another object or person and say something like, “Listen! My train goes from that window to the swimming pool, and that works.” The campers then try to figure out what works and doesn’t work. The key to what works is using the word “listen” before you tell where the train is going. This is a great way to emphasize that listening is an important part of how we interact with one another. That is so true in the Church especially in a transitional time like we are in at LCR. One of my jobs as a transitional pastor is to ask challenging questions and then really listen to the answers. Even more important is for you as congregational members is to listen to one another. “How are you doing?” is not just an idle question. When we ask it, we should be ready to listen to the answer and the answer should be an honest one. So as a congregation, how are you doing? Think and pray about it. If you want to talk about that just give me a call. I will be glad to listen and I think we will find “that works” in helping us to find out where we are going and how we will get there. Dear Friends in Christ,
One of the games I have always enjoyed playing with campers our Lutheran Camp Chrysalis is
“My Train.” It goes like this. You point to an object or a person and say something like, “My
train goes from that chair to Sally sitting over there, but that doesn’t work.” Then you point to
another object or person and say something like, “Listen! My train goes from that window to the
swimming pool, and that works.” The campers then try to figure out what works and doesn’t
work. The key to what works is using the word “listen” before you tell where the train is going.
This is a great way to emphasize that listening is an important part of how we interact with one
another. That is so true in the Church especially in a transitional time like we are in at LCR.
One of my jobs as a transitional pastor is to ask challenging questions and then really listen to the
answers. Even more important is for you as congregational members is to listen to one another.
“How are you doing?” is not just an idle question. When we ask it, we should be ready to listen
to the answer and the answer should be an honest one.
So as a congregation, how are you doing? Think and pray about it. If you want to talk about that
just give me a call. I will be glad to listen and I think we will find “that works” in helping us to
find out where we are going and how we will get there.

As the saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” These
pictures don’t tell the whole story, but they give you an idea of the
enjoyable celebration of Fathers Day at LCR on June 10th
.
LCR’s ladies treated the gents to a “Roll Your Own Taco”
breakfast, and everything was delicious! Inspiring quotations
about dads prettied up the tables, and photos of members’ dads of
all ages led to lots of reminiscing and a few surprises as people
tried to figure out who was who on their Who’s This Daddy? quiz.
Thanks to all who made this a fun fellowship event . . . and tasty
breakfast!
Hello to all "Spine Crackers" or anyone who wants to join the topic!
Spine Crackers is currently reading One Thousand White Women by Jim Fergus.
Based on an actual historical event, but told through fictional diaries, this is a
story about a group of women who travel west during the late 1800's to marry members of the
Cheyenne Tribes. These marriages were arranged as a trade between the Cheyennes' and
President Grant in exchange for horses. The entire novel is the journals of May Dodd. The
challenges these woman endure is a remarkable journey. One Thousand White Women is a
trilogy with The Vengeance of Mothers and Stongheart (not yet released). If you are at home
reading for pleasure and not following us, I highly recommend Crackin' these Spines!!
Continuing the sequel from One Thousand White Women, Spine Crackers has decided to follow
with Vengeance of Mothers: Journals of Margaret Kelly and Molly McGill. Both novels
available on Amazon. We meet again July 24th, 6:30 at Mima's to discuss book #2.
Crack a Spine and relax!!
Father’s Day Breakfast—Fellowship, Food and Fun!
Milestone Ministries We’re collecting information for Milestone Ministries. So if your child has received: a diploma, special honors, a driver’s license, school recognition, teacher’s award, community service plaque, art ribbon, Gold Award, … we’d like to know about it! Contact the church office at [email protected] so we can celebrate it at worship. We’ll try not to embarrass them too much but no promises.
Thank you to Dorothy and Jerry Tasian for refinishing and painting another outside door. This time they rehabed the door to the fellowship hall. Thank you to Paula and David Johnson for organizing and
cleaning the “cleaning closet.” Thank you to Lois Hickman for organizing the Father’s Day breakfast and thank you to all the people who contributed food and helped serve and clean-up after the breakfast. Thank you to Ben Raska for getting the air conditioning fixed again. Thank you to Shirley Schliessmann for working on cleaning and organizing the large closet behind the kitchen. Thank you to Paula Johnson for folding bulletins every week for the past 2 months and for preparing the church on each of those weeks. Thank you to Kay McBrayer, Shirley Schliessmann and Chris Weaver for doing the painstakingly detailed work of revising the LCR constitution.
