ADVICE COLUMN

Just Ask Oscar?

The Dog who can give you advice on your life and will answer your questions!

Dear Friends, This time I planned not to submitted an article but a friend of mine changed my mind. I recently  went and visited some good buddies of mine. They were so fun to be around. We ran and played outside. I even sat on their mamas lap. I sure love going over there to visit. I can’t wait to see everyone again.

Question #1 Submitted by Coco What is a microchip and what does it do? Dear Coco, I know some of my friends have one but I don’t. I do know what they are. A microchip is a small chip that is placed inside our necks so the pound can tell the people whom we belong to if we run off. My mama is thinking about getting me one. I don’t know if I want one though because I think it may hurt. I have run off a couple of times. Once when I did I was caught and the other time I stopped in my tracks and came running back. Oh what fun I had to be free and not have to worry about anything. Question #2 Submitted by: Friends who eat all day Should our parent or parents leave our food out all day? Dear Friends, I would not advise your parent or parents to leave your food all day because  it could make you be a rollie pollie too, since your brother already is. What my mama does for me is feed me breakfast and dinner. It wouldn’t hurt to go out and take a walk or to play in the house, yard or even let your parent throw you a toy. It will help your brother lose weight and for you to get some exercise. I love hopping outside to talk to my cat friends next door. I even run the fence to talk  to my buddies who also live next door. It give me so much pleasure to do this. Sincerely,Your friend and Pal,Oscar Mayer Jose

Olive Wood Trinket Box The Olive Wood was easy to work with and we got a chance to pick the pieces to make the box. I picked the pieces that would work best for me. We sanded the wood down. We used both sandpaper and a wood

planer. The pieces were rough and needed to be smoothed out. We g l u e d t h e p i e c e s together and used vice grips to hold it together for it to dry. To get the excess glue out and to smooth out the corners, we sanded the wood again. We all used one

stain to stain out the boxes. I believe we used a string to attach the top lid together.

THE SANTA MARIA ART SOCIETY

Let’s Talk Painting!

I paint in The Santa Maria Art

Society.  Cory and my friends paint with me.  Blue is my favorite color to paint.  I use a paint brush when I paint.  I had fun with this painting.  I also like using the color purple.  We laugh about funny stuff in art class.  Matt is crazy!  We used tape and then painted around it for a design.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

~ 8 ~

Q. How long has Stowasser Buick/GMC been in business?

A. 48 Years!

The Dealership first opened in 1969. It was originally located at the corner of Alvin and Broadway and is now in it’s second generation of ownership with the Stowasser family. Mr. Stowasser was a popular accountant in Santa Maria during the 60’s and worked for the Van Wyk family. He purchased the dealership from the Van Wyk family after much convincing! He was concerned that he had no experience in sales but, was convinced that if he surrounded himself with the right people, he would be successful. The dealership was sold to Mr. Stowasser by the Vanwick family in 1969.

Q. What did you do to become the

General Sales Manager at Stowasser Buick / GMC?

A. I worked my way up! I worked as

a Salesman for 6 months. I then worked as the Finance Manger for 8 months. After that I worked as the Sales Manager for 5 years. I was then promoted to General Manger and have been here ever since!

Q. How long have you worked for Stowasser

Buick / GMC?

A. 14 Years

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

~ 9 ~

Q. Where are you from?

A. I grew up in Bloomington, CA which is about 60 miles from LA in Southern California.

Q. What does it take to

become a good salesman?

A. It takes a true caring for people. It is

important that you want to help people without regard for “what’s in it for you.” Being honest and hardworking is very important.

Q. How many employees do you have here?

A. We have approximately 42 employees.

Q. Why would you encourage someone

to buy a vehicle from Stowasser Buick / GMC?

A. I know that our dealership is doing the

right thing! We know a good deal and do our best to provide that information to all of our customers. If customers ever have a question or problem, I can help! I know that we are offering fair and honest service to all our customers. We can solve any problem together, but it is very difficult to solve a problem if it happened at another dealership.

Q. Why do you like to sell cars?

A. I love people. It is an honor to be

able to help so many people. You meet such a variety of people and you get the opportunity to learn everyone’s story. It is an opportunity to make a difference. I once met a women who came into the dealership to look for a car, and it was her 90th birthday! I sent a staff member to go purchase a ice cream cake and some balloons. We threw her an impromptu birthday party. She had tears in her eyes and she thanked me. She said that was the best birthday present that she had ever had! That touched me, it was a reminder of how we can effect people in a positive way.

Q. What type of departments are at a

car dealership? What does each department do at the dealership?

A. There are several different

departments at a dealership. The sales department sells cars. The finance department handles the paperwork and financing of vehicles. The office staff handles the paperwork and banking for the entire dealership. The parts department orders parts for the cars. The service department fixes cars, and the detail department cleans cars.

Q. What is your favorite car to sell and why?

A. Fast Sports Cars! They are a lot of fun. Porsche

Boxster is my favorite car to drive. I also like Corvettes. *Cory’s favorite car is a Ford Mustang.

Q. Since Stowasser Buick/GMC has been

open, what are the total amount of vehicles that have been sold?

A. We sell approximately 120 cars a month.

That totals out to 21,000 cars a year!

Falling Technique and Forms….

I would like to talk to you guys about that.

My favorite falling technique is called "falling technique number two".

You squat down and your arms are crisscross across your chest.  Then you fall backwards and try to keep

your head up and your face.  You look toward your belt the whole time.

The “ilsushi" sparring technique is blocking with your arm while making a fist. Then you punch toward your body and then punch again towards the face.

SPORTS & FITNESS

..Hiyahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

I like “One Step Sparring." You take a step back and block, then step in with your feet together and punch away from

your body.

Sparing technique #3 is where we step back with our right foot and then kick forward with the right foot.  "Kicking Technique #4" starts in a ready stance.  It is kind of like a dance type thing.  You kick with your right foot.  We then pivot back and kick with the left foot.

I will keep you guys posted on the next issue!

I like “One Step Sparring”

THE TRAILBLAZERS

~11~

We find trails to hike at Oak Creek Farm.  We always have our eye out.  The trails are medium hard because of the pointy plants that we have

around here (There are plenty of those!).  And yes…it was very hot!

We found sticks to make walking sticks out of.  We brought the sticks back to the

Farm and started to sand them down.
