24,388 meals byDEC 25

That’s our goal this holiday season. Each meal you sponsor today is so much more than a plate of food.

It’s a chance for you to help change a life. To end hunger. To end homelessness.

“Let there be joy!”Caroling angels. Christmas pageants.

Celebrations around the world.Christmas is truly a miraculous time. It’s a time to share love. A time to

raise hopes. A time to be joyful! And that’s exactly what makes it

a very difficult time for the men and women who make their home with us here at the Rescue Mission.

Many, like Daniel, whose letter I’ve included here, are apart from their families, separated from spouses and children. Most would tell you they have very little to celebrate.

It is your gifts that make Christmas the very best day possible for them.

Special meals. Decorations. Small gifts. And above all, a celebration of that very first Christmas; a reminder for them – and for all of us – that miracles do happen and prayers are answered!

This then is my Christmas wish for all who join us here at the Rescue Mission during the holidays, and for you and those who are near and dear: Let there be joy!

Last year, I was homeless and living with my daughter. Every penny I

earned went to buy drugs. It was so bad that she moved out just to get away from me! My family hated me for what I did. That finally helped me make the decision to come to Charlotte Rescue Mission, and it was the best decision of my life.

There were counselors who really cared and they taught me coping skills to stay clean and sober.

I just graduated from the 90-day

program, and I am so proud because it’s the first time in my life I ever finished anything! After I graduated, I took some classes here where I learned how to put together a resume and look for a job. Just one week later, I found a job and I’m working full time and moving into the Halfway House here.

Last week, I went back home for the first time. As soon as I stepped off the bus, I was tested. For the first time in my life, I had something better. I walked away!

All I needed was a chance, a tiny

crack in the door, and now I will take those opportunities and make a better life. I am working and I’m able to love my grandchildren.

I hope that someday I can give back and help other people who are struggling like I once was. Now I have hope, anything is possible.

Thank you for introducing me to a whole new life.

Sincerely,Daniel
