Do you see Texas on the map? Now, look at the country of Venezuela in South America (it’s

colored yellow.) Do you see it?

Page 4: “THE CAY”

Here’s a closer look at Venezuela. Now look north at the tiny island of Curacao. Willemstad is the capital.

The island of Barbados is where the movie “Pirates of the Carribean” takes place

Page 5: “THE CAY”

The Island of Curacao was settled by the Dutch. In “The Cay” Phillip describes the

island as looking like The Netherlands, but with brighter colors. Here’s an aerial shot of

the capital city of Willemstad.

THE PONTOON BRIDGE

Page 10: “THE CAY”

In this picture, the pontoon bridge is being pulled back together after a ship has passed through. You can see the people are hurrying across the

bridge, even before it’s closed!

This is an offshore oil refinery, like the one that Phillip’s father

worked at. Oil was a major source of

income for the people of Willemstad.

Page 12: “THE CAY”

This is a picture of one of the many cays that are in the Caribbean. This island is similar in size to the one that Phillip and Timothy would

have been stranded on. Can you see the sand and coral underneath the water?
