ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX CHURCH BRADFORD, PA CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BRADFORD CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BRADFORD CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BRADFORD CATHOLIC COMMUNITY OF BRADFORD MARCH 25, 2018MARCH 25, 2018MARCH 25, 2018MARCH 25, 2018
As we begin Holy Week today, with Palm Sunday,
remember that each of the days this week allow us to
enter the Triduum in a most special way - as disciples
of Jesus. Palm Sunday has two sides to the story
that eventually focus on Jesus and us. Jesus enters into the Holy City not as a warrior kin, no chariot, but
simply - riding a donkey; no waving of implements of war, but palm branches. Then during the Mass we
hear the Passion Gospel read and the mood changes quickly. At the beginning, we are found cheering
Jesus as the ONE and now we are shouting for His death. We see the fickleness of humankind and also
herd mentality. We know now that Jesus had to go through this to be faithful to the Father and, in love, to redeem us.
On Monday, at the Cathedral in Erie, Bishop Persico will bless three oils that will be used in the parishes of the diocese - the
oil of Baptism, the oil of the sick, and Chrism. On Thursday we celebrate Holy Thursday, which begins the Triduum. We
celebrate the institution of priesthood and the first Mass celebrated with Jesus as the main celebrant and the Apostles
concelebrating. On Good Friday, Jesus shows us His great love through all of His suffering that precedes Him being nailed to
the Cross and thus bringing about our redemption. On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil, we are together as if it were a family
gathering, sharing with one another the family history and beginning to celebrate Christ our Light who redeemed us. On
Easter Sunday we celebrate His resurrection. I will have more on this in next week’s reminder.
Today, I want to focus on Holy Thursday and the Mass by sharing with you the recent thoughts on
the Mass by Pope Francis:
“The Eucharistic Prayer (at the Mass) also asks God to gather all of His children together in ‘the
perfection of love,’ and in union with the Pope and the local bishop, who is mentioned by name as
a sign that ‘we celebrate in communion with the universal Church and with the particular Church.’
While this ‘codified formula’ can seem a bit ‘distant, surely we will participate better’ if we
understand the meaning of it. The Eucharistic prayer not only expresses everything that is done
during the Mass, but it also cultivates the ‘three attitudes that should never be lacking in the
disciples of Jesus.’
These attitudes are to give thanks ‘always and everywhere, not just on certain occasions when
everything is going well’; to make our lives a ‘gift of love’; and to build a concrete communion ‘in
the church and with everyone.’
The Eucharist Prayer, then, which is the center of the Mass, teaches faithful ‘little by little to make
our whole lives a ‘eucharist’, which is an ‘act of thanksgiving.’”
God Bless, Fr. Ray

MARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTSMARRIAGE MOMENTS Palm Sunday is such a baffling feast. Everybody is rejoicing in the glory of Jesus' arrival. We who know the end of the story, know that a lot of pain quickly follows. Presumably your wedding was joyous. Presumably some dark days have followed. Contemplate the ups and downs of your relation-ship and remember that Good Friday is not the end.

The Passion of Jesus makes it clear, no one escapes suffer-ing. Suffering is inevitable, but no one should suffer alone. That is one of the primary roles of families, to stand with and support each other in suffering.
