ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX CHURCH BRADFORD, PA ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX ST. BERNARD OF CLAIRVAUX BRADFORD, PA BRADFORD, PA BRADFORD, PA BRADFORD, PA

We have reached the half way point of Lent and we should ask ourselves how we

have been doing this Lent? Have we grown more spiritual? Have we by chance

lessened our need for material things to make us happy? The season of Lent is

centered on our growing relationship with Jesus and how to celebrate it on a daily

basis. Many of us grew up seeing the priest on this Sunday wearing pink vestments

as a reminder that we have reached the half-way point in our journey through Lent.

So again we have to ask ourselves how have we been doing this Lent?

We all know how important our eyesight is to each of us. Many times, as we grow older, we worry about cataracts and the

possibility of losing our sight. Today’s gospel also deals with the importance of sight but on a different level – the level of

faith. The story of the Pharisees and the young man who was born blind is a story we have heard many times.

As you know, Jesus heals the blind man and he is then taken before the Pharisees and the heated discussions begin. In

reality, the Pharisees are more blind than the young man who was born blind. The Pharisees refuse to accept the miracle

that Jesus just did; they looked for any way to deny it. They had the knowledge of their religion, but lacked the proper

disposition of faith to believe. But young man born blind had both.

The Pharisees thought this man was uneducated and of no value compared to their training. But this young man who could

now see was not afraid to stand up for the truth. He was blind at one time and now he could see. This was something he

could not deny and would not deny it, even though he was standing before the most powerful men of his time.

The purpose of the story is that our faith must be the governing force of what we see and not our knowledge of our religion.

So as we get closer to our celebration of the events of Holy Week, let our faith become the driving force for all of what we

say and do. God Bless, Fr. Ray

(1 Sam. 16:7) Yes, love can be blind, but deep love sees beneath annoying habits to the inner goodness. Name one positive quality that you see in your beloved that others might not see.

As of Monday, March 20th all office functions for St. Francis/OMPH

are available at the 95 East Corydon Street office. The St. Francis

office at 15 St. Francis Drive is closed. The Bishop has required that

we have only one office to serve our partnered parishes, so all records

and computer programs have been moved to the St. Bernard office/rectory. We have appreciated

your patience with us while we try to wrap our arms around the whole Catholic community. Please

note that all mail should be addressed to: PO Box 2394, Bradford, PA 16701 and our phone

number is 814-362-6825. Please indicate on your correspondence (letter, envelope, check,

etc.) which church it pertains to. You can also find this information and more on the front of the

bulletin.

We would like to draw your attention to the merger of St. Francis and Our Mother of Perpetual Help.

Per canonical law, OMPH has become a secondary mission church and all assets and liabilities are

assumed by St. Francis Church. This means that OMPH bank accounts are closed and t he bal-

ances are combined with St. Francis. As of March 31st there will be no deposits made to OMPH

accounts – all offertory, mass stipends, donation, etc. will be deposited in St. Francis accounts so

please make out checks to St. Francis. With the June/July envelope mailing, you will notice that all

envelopes have St. Francis church on the front. We know it’s not easy to change, but please make

out all checks to St. Francis to help us and the bank deposit them.

We look forward to getting to know all of you and helping you in any way we can. Please do not hes-

itate to call us with any questions you may have. Wendy & Kathy
