On Monday, May 30, 2016 Shiloh Baptist New Site, Shiloh Baptist Old Site and Mount Zion
Baptist churches came together at the Shiloh cemetery to commemorate Memorial Day.
The cemetery is the final resting place of many prominent African-Americans from
Fredericksburg. Our Minister Jonique Walter served as guest speaker. Music was provided
by the Combine Choir of Mount Zion Baptist Church. The American Legion Post 55 led the
Pledge of Allegiance. The service was a blessing from start to finish.

with a large turn out from the community.
Ushers Kevin Lorld, Constance Lane, Sheila McCray, Robyne Jackson and Michael

Jr. Missionary Ministry The Shiloh Baptist Church New Site Jr. Missionary Ministry assisted with the service on
Sunday, May 29, 2016. The Jr. Missionary Ministry was in charge of scripture, welcome,
offertory prayer, and leading worship. The children did a wonderful job and were truly a
blessing. Much appreciation is given to the Jr. Missionary sponsors, parents and Pastor
Parrish for continuing to allow the youth to take an active role in worship.

Stephen Ministry
Greetings to the Shiloh Baptist Church New Site family!
Ten months ago Deacon Eloise Chambers and Sister Faye Patterson traveled to
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for the Steven Ministry Leaders’ Training Conference. Since that
time, we have been very busy meeting, planning, and teaching classes related to Stephen
Ministry. After the June 10th class, we will take a well-deserved break until September
10th. As of June 10th, we will have completed nine of 20 classes. Our class of six has
worked diligently preparing to become caregivers when the needs arise. With only six
caregivers, five women and one man who will work one-on-one with same gender care
receivers, it will be quite a stretch to think that we will be able to meet the needs of our
congregation in times of grief, especially where male caregivers are needed. In fact, it
would take a miracle! With this in mind, the Holy Spirit is leading us to open up the
classes to new attendees in the fall.
This is an appeal for all, especially men, to join the Stephen Ministry Training Class when
we resume on September 10th. Although there are 20 modules, they may be taught in any
order. Therefore, we have decided to invite new trainees to join our current cohort to
complete Modules 10 through 20 together in the fall! The new cohort would then
continue their training with Modules One through Nine after the first group has
completed their classes. We will make every effort to transition the new group in order to
ensure that new trainees are not at a disadvantage by joining the group mid way. It also
gives us the opportunity to multiply the number of Stephen Ministers who are ready to
become caregivers “when,” not if, deaths occur.

Jesus calls us to be “… The salt of the earth…” and “…The light of the world…” (Matt.
5:14; Mark 9:50). What an excellent way for us to be salt and light in the world reflecting
the love of Jesus Christ through what we do for others in their times of need! We urge you
to please be prayerful about taking this opportunity to join the Stephen Minister Training
Class this fall. Applications are available on the Stephen Ministry table in the vestibule.
Please return them personally to Sisters Chambers or Patterson by August 1, 2016 in
order to complete the interview process and order materials.
Since January, Shiloh New Site’s light has reached 25 extended family members in seven
states. Of those, 14 families have been reached in Fredericksburg. Since each family
receives four letters and books over the year, this means that over 100 letters and books
will have been sent to those families during the next year. Needless to say, this is quite
an administrative undertaking. We are still appealing for a secretary to volunteer to help
with the letters and books. Effective immediately, we will be sending the Journeying
Through Grief (JTG) series only when a member of the immediate family dies. For the
purposes of this policy, immediate family is defined as a spouse, parent, grandparent,
grandparent-in-law, sibling, sibling-in-law, child, or grandchild. However, all JTG series
that were started under the previous system will be completed as scheduled.
Pictured below are members of the Stephen Ministry Training Class. As always, please
continue to keep Stephen Ministry in your prayers.

VBS “Submerged”
Shiloh Baptist Church New Site will be conducting Lifeway’s Submerged™ for Vacation
Bible School this year. This year’s VBS is all about finding truth below the surface. We
want your children to join us for the fun and excitement! We will hear Bible stories, play
games, and have delicious snacks. During VBS, kids will discover the truth that Jesus
knows all about them and loves them unconditionally. Each day kids will explore what lies
below the surface of the deep sea by creating crafts, playing fun games, enjoying tasty
snacks, singing cool songs, and learning about missions.
The expedition takes place from June 20 to June 24. Our church is eagerly waiting to
welcome your children to this free event. Submerged offers something for everyone, from
babies to adults.
Please register at www.shilohnewsite.com.
Be sure to invite friends and family to join us for this deep sea adventure!
