CABONNE BOUNDARIES TO REMAIN THE SAME Cabonne Mayor Bob Dowling has welcomed the State Government’s decision not to make any changes to the Shire’s boundaries, saying it was good news for ratepayers. Local Government Minister Don Page made the announcement last Friday after considering a bid by a group of ratepayers who wanted a large part of the Shire’s eastern area included in Orange City. Cr Dowling said he was very pleased with the Minister’s decision, “Cabonne argument has al- ways been about the financial stability of our Council and presently we are one of the most financially viable councils in the State. “Retaining the Council’s boundaries consolidates that position and means ratepayers throughout the Shire will continue to benefit.” Cr Dowling said he and fellow Councillors were willing to meet with dissatisfied residents to talk about any issues. The Minister said he would postpone any proposal that makes major changes to Local Government boundaries in NSW. Mr Page said a recently appointed Local Government Review Panel would investigate and identify options for governance models, structural arrangements and boundary changes and was expected to report back to him by July next year. “In the meantime, proposals, such as the current Cabonne proposal, which would result in a major change to local council boundaries or which are of a contentious nature, including any proposal WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE OF FAITH History was made in Bathurst on Thursday 24 May 2012 when a Covenant between the Anglican and Catholic Dioceses of Bathurst was signed by Anglican Bishop of Bathurst Richard Hurford and Catholic Bishop Michael McKenna. Around 500 people, including our own Reverend Jono Williams and Father Joe Dooley, attended the Liturgy which began in the Catholic Cathedral of St Michael and St John. The Liturgy then pro- gressed on a Pilgrim’s Way Walk to the Anglican All Saints Cathedral, where the Covenant was signed and gifts of Icons were exchanged - which will hang in each Cathedral, with the Covenant Document. The covenant commits the two dioceses to: an annual ecumenical service; a bienniel joint clergy day; local services to enliven common witness to our baptism in Jesus Christ; exploring possibilities for sharing church plant and resources; cooperation in preparation for Christian marriage and Christian education; and openness to fellowship with other ecclesial communities. The covenant has grown out of many years of unofficial cooperation, and the work of a small committee representing the two dioceses. To the editor... Cabonne Council will hold a meeting and presentation evening at the Council HACC office at 70 Gaskill Street Canowindra on Tuesday 12 June 2012 from 7.00-8.30 pm to discuss the new Draft LEP. While the meeting has been advertised by Council, I strongly encourage all interested people to attend. The LEP can have a significant impact on residents of Cabonne so it is important for residents to attend and be aware of any changes. Further to this, submissions on the Draft LEP close on 22 June 2012, so time is very limited. Please come along on Tuesday the 12 June 2012 so we can all be better informed. Yours sincerely David Cullane, President Canowindra Business Chamber The Biggest Morning Tea On Thursday 24th May the community of Canowindra, with the help of the Health Service and C.W.A., held a ‘Big Morning Tea’ in the main street. Money raised totalled $1406, which was a combination from the town’s Biggest Morn- ing Tea, Bowls Ladies, Canowindra Hospital & Hospital Gym & Health Centre Ladies Afternoon Tea. A special thanks must go to Kim Roberts for the cake which was won by Emily O’Shea; the main raffle being won by Rob Rogan. Also thank you to the Ex-Services Club for their continued support, The Health Centre and all those people who helped and cooked to raise money for Cancer Research. Another thank you to Bill Pauls Carpet Centre for the intrusion into their shop. Carolyn Wythes - Canowindra Health On behalf of the Moorbel Hall Committee, I would like to thank everyone who participated in our Biggest Morning Tea last Thursday. These thanks go to those who baked, gave donations or came along for a cuppa and a chat. Money raised was $540.70, which was a good effort for such a worthy cause. Winners of the Raffle on the day were 1st Alice Robson, 2nd Mary Anderson, 3rd Elaine Neville, 4th Aileen Grant. The Lucky Door Prize went to Linc Hewson. Mr Page said that while matters would still be referred to the Boundaries Commission or the Director General of the Division of Local Government, he would not make any recommendations until the independent panel completed its report. “After the Government has received the panel’s report, I will review this position,” he said. This decision comes at a time when Cabonne Council is moving full steam ahead with the process of implementing their Draft Local Environmental Plan 2012, which is currently on public display. Canowindra will have a Council representative on hand to discuss matters, including how the Draft LEP will effect our town's future development, rates, boundaries, signage and maintenance at the Council Office at 70 Gaskill Street, Tuesday 12 June 2012 starting at 7pm. Should you have any questions on the implica- tions of this Draft Plan, including potential changes to current or future DAs, land valuation, rates, etc, please attend this important seminar. Written public submissions must be received by Council by close of business on Friday 22 June 2012, which is when public exhibition closes. Discussions will focus solely on the Draft Plan, so it would be of benefit to proceedings if your questions could be planned ahead.

PYTHONS NEWS Saturday’s match was against CSU “Aggies” here in Canowindra. As Aggies had won their previous four matches there was much anticipation for tough game. Aggies took to the field full of confidence but an early try to Adam Nash dented their bravado and The Pythons began to dominate the match. After a try to Todd Wyburn and a conversion by Tom Abbott, the score pushed out to 12-0. Another great try to Adam Nash from a set play, plus the successful conversion by Tom Abbott, put the score at 19-0 by half time. The second half lacked the intensity of the first half but Aggies managed to cross for one try but their kick was unsuccessful. The final score was 19-5. Another win to The Pythons has kept them firmly in second place on the ladder. Points: Daniel Bowd 3; Todd Wyburn 2; Adam Nash 1; Hugh Wills 1. Players' Player: Adam Nash (onya Nashi!) Winner of the Members Draw in week 1 was Nook O’Dea, and last week it was Ian Brown. It is not too late to sign up for membership – you have got to be in it to win it! so head to the Newsagency to join up, or do so on any game day. There is a general bye on the long weekend and then the Pythons also have a bye the following week. So our next game is against Condo, in Condobolin, on Saturday 23 June. The Pythons next home game will be on Saturday 30 June against the current competition leaders Blayney. This will also be “Ladies Day” so set that day aside in your calendar and come along for a cracking game of footy and a great day out. More details about Ladies Day will be in the Phoenix in the coming weeks. Remember – entry is free all year but you are urged to make a gold coin donation towards the Canowindra Fitness Path!
