CABONNE BOUNDARIES TO REMAIN THE SAME Cabonne Mayor Bob Dowling has welcomed the State Government’s decision not to make any changes to the Shire’s boundaries, saying it was good news for ratepayers. Local Government Minister Don Page made the announcement last Friday after considering a bid by a group of ratepayers who wanted a large part of the Shire’s eastern area included in Orange City. Cr Dowling said he was very pleased with the Minister’s decision, “Cabonne argument has al- ways been about the financial stability of our Council and presently we are one of the most financially viable councils in the State. “Retaining the Council’s boundaries consolidates that position and means ratepayers throughout the Shire will continue to benefit.” Cr Dowling said he and fellow Councillors were willing to meet with dissatisfied residents to talk about any issues. The Minister said he would postpone any proposal that makes major changes to Local Government boundaries in NSW. Mr Page said a recently appointed Local Government Review Panel would investigate and identify options for governance models, structural arrangements and boundary changes and was expected to report back to him by July next year. “In the meantime, proposals, such as the current Cabonne proposal, which would result in a major change to local council boundaries or which are of a contentious nature, including any proposal WORKING TOGETHER FOR THE FUTURE OF FAITH History was made in Bathurst on Thursday 24 May 2012 when a Covenant between the Anglican and Catholic Dioceses of Bathurst was signed by Anglican Bishop of Bathurst Richard Hurford and Catholic Bishop Michael McKenna. Around 500 people, including our own Reverend Jono Williams and Father Joe Dooley, attended the Liturgy which began in the Catholic Cathedral of St Michael and St John. The Liturgy then pro- gressed on a Pilgrim’s Way Walk to the Anglican All Saints Cathedral, where the Covenant was signed and gifts of Icons were exchanged - which will hang in each Cathedral, with the Covenant Document. The covenant commits the two dioceses to: an annual ecumenical service; a bienniel joint clergy day; local services to enliven common witness to our baptism in Jesus Christ; exploring possibilities for sharing church plant and resources; cooperation in preparation for Christian marriage and Christian education; and openness to fellowship with other ecclesial communities. The covenant has grown out of many years of unofficial cooperation, and the work of a small committee representing the two dioceses. To the editor... Cabonne Council will hold a meeting and presentation evening at the Council HACC office at 70 Gaskill Street Canowindra on Tuesday 12 June 2012 from 7.00-8.30 pm to discuss the new Draft LEP. While the meeting has been advertised by Council, I strongly encourage all interested people to attend. The LEP can have a significant impact on residents of Cabonne so it is important for residents to attend and be aware of any changes. Further to this, submissions on the Draft LEP close on 22 June 2012, so time is very limited. Please come along on Tuesday the 12 June 2012 so we can all be better informed. Mr Page said that while matters would still be referred to the Boundaries Commission or the Director General of the Division of Local Government, he would not make any recommendations until the independent panel completed its report. “After the Government has received the panel’s report, I will review this position,” he said. This decision comes at a time when Cabonne Council is moving full steam ahead with the process of implementing their Draft Local Environmental Plan 2012, which is currently on public display. Canowindra will have a Council representative on hand to discuss matters, including how the Draft LEP will effect our town's future development, rates, boundaries, signage and maintenance at the Council Office at 70 Gaskill Street, Tuesday 12 June 2012 starting at 7pm. Should you have any questions on the implica- tions of this Draft Plan, including potential changes to current or future DAs, land valuation, rates, etc, please attend this important seminar. Written public submissions must be received by Council by close of business on Friday 22 June 2012, which is when public exhibition closes. Discussions will focus solely on the Draft Plan, so it would be of benefit to proceedings if your questions could be planned ahead.
