The Back to School Season is quickly approaching! Are you
ready?
Now that it’s August,
school is right around the
corner. That means it’s time to
get in some last minute hang
outs and of course start that
terrible summer homework.
While most clubs haven’t
been having events in the
summer, now is a great time!
Plan those car washes and
service projects for the
summer or for the return of
school. People are coming
back from their vacations
and it’s a great time to get
involved. Keep in mind that
now is the best time to plan
for your year.
We will be having another
bonding DCM this month in
addition to an Officer Training
Session. This session will help
prepare officers for more than
just their individual roles.
Seattle Rally is in less than
a week! Seattle Rally is a
great time to prepare for the
new year, meet Key Clubbers
from all over the Seattle area
and more, and renew your
passion for service.
DIvision 21’s goals this year are to have all 13 clubs in their area have active status,
expand membership in the division, fundraise and increase awareness of Key Club
International and the Pacific Northwest District’s goals and projects, and have extensive
communication between all clubs regardless of distance.
However, our biggest goals are those stated by Key Club International:
To provide service, build character, and develop leadership.

Your school’s club!
A Word from the Board
Hi, Bumblebees! Are you having a great summer? Even during summer,
there is lots of Key Club fun going on, so don’t forget to check
upcoming events! For this month, we have Seattle Rally, a couple of
volunteering opportunities at Rosehill Community Center, and August
DCM. Please let the Divisional Board know if you’re interested! Also,
don’t forget to keep in touch your club members/officers and advisors
in order to be ready for the upcoming school year! It’s good to have
Key Club calendar and have everything ready. When the school starts,
I will give officers the attendance sheet, hour sheet, and many other
useful documents that would help officers to get their clubs more
organized! Summer is going fast, so BEE READY! Hope you guys have a
great rest of the summer!
Greetings from my computer at home! Are you bee-ple having a
good summer? Well, if you answered either yes or no to this question, I
have amazing news for you: your summer is going to get a whole lot
better! As Key Club, we’re going to have many volunteering events in
the month of August, the month of awesomeness! As well, we’re going
to soon have a BRAND NEW website for our Division! This website will be
full of awesomeness so awesome that I have to state it confidential as
of now. In fact, it’s so confidential that any of you who had read to this
point in my paragraph must be tazed in the face and be fed the most
maleficent food known to mankind: pickles. Anyways, for the survivors,
I would like say that the Seattle Rally is coming up on August 12th, and
those who would like to come should contact the Divisional Board right
this instant; stop reading this and go contact us right NOW! You’ll be
amazed at how much fun you’ll have during the Seattle Rally, so grab
your buns and get to the Seattle Rally this upcoming four days! With
that said, have a gouda summer, everyone!

What will DIVISION 21 do?
ELIMATE is the District Project this year so we will definitely participate!
Stay tuned to find out what Division 21 will do this year to ELIMINATE MNT!
The Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program, KCCP, in support of Kiwanis Doernbecher Children’s
Cancer Program in Portland OR., Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in Seattle WA., and the
Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program in British Columbia and the Yukon, will raise money and
awareness to fight and find the cure for children’s cancer.
The KCCP was founded by Past PNW Kiwanis Governor Frank Morehouse in 2010. His inspiration
was a young cancer patient named Penny. Morehouse worked at the hospital where Penny
stayed. Penny was diagnosed with a brain tumor and required surgery and radiation therapy.
Penny visited Morehouse during her hospital stays and talked about what was happening to her.
Sadly, Penny eventually lost her battle with cancer.
The KCCP is a long term project that will hopefully expand to a global program. Children’s
cancer affects many families. Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and
with the help of research, their chances of surviving have more than tripled. KCCP hopes to be
a part of finding a cure.
“The Pacific Northwest is the beginning. The world is our goal.”
Youth Opportunities Fund
The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is an
endowed fund for Key Club International
held within the Kiwanis International
Foundation.
This fund uses earned interest to help Key
Clubs and Key Club members serve the
world by providing grants for service
opportunities. The fund also provides
academic scholarships for higher
education. The Youth Opportunities Fund is
established through a portion of your Key
Club International dues and through the
purchase of G. Harold Martin Fellowships.
YOF grants can help you take action. Look
around and identify the things that need to
get done in your school, community or
world.
Helping Key Clubs Serve the World
HOW TO APPLY FOR A
YOF GRANT
YOF grants are given only to Key Clubs and/or
club members. There is only one funding cycle
for the Youth Opportunities Fund. The
application must be received by October 15
each year. Clubs may request funding
assistance from $100 to $2,000. The committee
typically funds those clubs who are asking for
a portion of the total cost of the project, and
clubs who are working with other organizations
to fund and complete the project. Notification
of the Key Club International Board’s decision
will be mailed no later than January 15.
