Macon County Emergency Alert & Notification Center
There were some people who stated that they are unable to
hear the warning sirens when there is a storm in the area.
The warning system is compliant. The Macon Emergency
Services suggests that people add the alert system &
receive notices of weather in the area.
This, in conjunction with the warning sirens, will help when the situation arises.
There is no charge to the individual for the service. This System will be used in the
even of an emergency within Macon County. Alerts will be sent out with potentially
lifesaving messages regarding critical events such as chemical leaks, active shooter
situation, etc. This information will be sent to residents who have signed up online
and any resident who uses landline telephone. If you only use a cell phone, you will
not receive these critical notification unless you are signed up.
Alerts for significant weather events are among the notification’s a resident may
sign up for.
Individual Cities and Villages are able to send out Alerts for anyone who signs up
for alerts such as, but no limited to, boil orders, road closures or construction, and
winter weather closures.
There are several ways to receive an alert: Text, phone call, email, TTY/TTD, or
using the ContactBridge app found in the App. Store.
If you are already signed up for the Macon County Emergency Alert & Notification
System, please log in and verify your contact information is up to date.
If you haven’t signed up, please do so by visiting this link;
https://member.everbridge.net/index/453003085611879#login
For questions regarding the Emergency Alert & Notification System or assistance in
signing up, please contact Macon County ETSB at 217-424-1002. If you need
assistance or do not have internet access, please call 217-794-2206, and we will be
happy to help you enroll.
This is a great feature that the City of Maroa offers. You may choose how to get
alerts. You do not need to live in Maroa to get the alerts. When you receive an
alert, it will ask you to confirm. If you confirm, the message is not sent to your
alternate contact. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CONFIRM. When you sign up for
the service and would like the alerts to go to everyone in your family, be sure to add
each contact separately. This will ensure that each family member will get the alert.

Goodbye Old Beauty
It’s May 27th, 10:30 am when Meg and I backed out of the driveway
of our home on Maple Street. We made a stop to deliver a gift
before we headed east on the county road. We made a stop to say
good bye to my sweetheart, for awhile, and place the flags at his
grave. It will be three hours before we arrive at my new home.
I moved to Maroa in 1976 as the bride of a special man. From the
beginning, I felt comfortable and happy in my new home. Will and I
were workers and soon became involved in many projects. In late
1977, we began a very big project when we moved to our new home
on Maple Street. The big yard was heaven to Will as he was a
gardener. When we weren't in the garden, we were working to make
our home beautiful. Many friends and family enjoyed the warmth of
our home and sat at our table.
When Will retired, he had time to become involved in city business
and Maroa football. I spent my extra time with arts and crafts and
teaching them to others.
We enjoyed this wonderful life in Maroa for 39 years and I remained
4 more years. Those 4 years became strenuous and problematic. It
was time for me to move on.
I began writing short stories for the Maroa News about a year ago.
This was so meaningful for me; such a good way to use my mind.
This is my final story! I know there is someone in town who has
stories to tell. Please fill my space.
Goodbye Old Beauty!
I remain

Does your mailbox look like these? It’s time to look at your mailbox. We
appreciate all that have their mailbox in good condition and not falling
over or propped up somehow. We do NOT require your name be on the
outside of your box...we do, however, REQUIRE that you have your
address on the outside. Next month you may be getting something in your
mailbox telling you to put your address on your box, or your box needs
improvement. We appreciate your help with this.
