THE BRY BULLETIN

“My team and I will be out in the

community attending meetings,

holding office hours, meeting

with residents at community cof-

fees, and canvassing neighbor-

hoods to learn about the priori-

ties of District 1 residents.”

Meet the D1 Team From left: Hilary Nemchik; Communica-tions Director; Councilmember Bry; Steve Hadley, Outreach Director; Victoria Joes, Policy Director; Venessa Jackson, Exec. Assistant; Jamie Fox, Chief of Staff, Daniel Orloff, Council Rep; Mauricio Medina, Council Rep; Bridger Langfur,

Dear Friend,

I am honored to serve as your District 1 City Councilmember, and

I look forward to working closely with the entire community to

keep San Diego safe, clean, and prosperous.

After being sworn into office

in December, I was select-

ed as chair of the Council

Committee on Budget and

Government Efficiency and

vice chair of Public Safety

and Livable Neighbor-

hoods. Maintaining a

balanced budget is central

to our City’s ability to oper-

ate and serve the residents of San Diego, and I will encourage

prudent fiscal decision-making as chair of this committee. Public

safety is the number one function of local government, and I look

forward to working with my colleagues on the Council and com-

munity members to advance a public safety agenda that will keep

our neighborhoods safe.

I am also pleased to tell you that I have recruited an excellent

team to join me in working for the residents of District 1. I expect

my staff to respond rapidly to constituent needs and to assist me

in developing and implementing innovative policy plans. Please

do not hesitate to reach out to us for assistance with City services

Council Districts 1 & 2 Say No Offshore Drilling in SD I was proud to stand with City Councilmember Lorie Zapf, San Diego Coastkeeper, WILDCOAST, San Diego Audu-bon Society, and I Love A Clean San Diego in La Jolla Shores to call for the permanent protection of San Diego's coastal waters from offshore oil drilling and gas leasing. Protecting our region’s waters from accidental oil spills and other negative impacts of offshore oil drilling is critical to the environmental and economic sustainability of our re-gion. We collected over 1,000 signatures from San Die-gans, and will continue to advocate for the preservation of our coastline. Carmel Valley 5K and Fun Run

Thank you to Pardee Homes San Diego for inviting me to kick off the Carmel Valley 5K and Fun Run. It was wonderful to see so many families out enjoying their Sunday morning together.

Proclaiming January Human Trafficking Awareness

Month

Human trafficking is a

modern form of slav-

ery and has no place

in our communities.

Unfortunately, this is a

thriving industry in

San Diego. A recent

study done by the Uni-

versity of San Diego

and Point Loma Naza-

rene University esti-

mated that the total

trafficking industry in

San Diego generated

$810 million in

revenue in 2013.

As a mother and a

grandmother, I cannot

think of any crime

more horrific than the

trafficking of a child—

the average age of a

victim is only 16. I was

proud to join my col-

leagues in calling

attention to this critical

issue by proclaiming

January Human

Trafficking Awareness

Month.

Future of the Innovation Economy It was inspiring to learn about the projects young coding students are working on at the League of Amazing Programmers. I was especially impressed by a high school student who developed an app that tracks crime data geographically. These bright young minds are the future of our innovation economy.

D1 Council Reps Are Out in the Field

My team went out into the District to assess storm damage and provide assistance during the rainy months of December and January. Thank you also to the City employees who worked hard to keep our neighborhoods and streets safe during the storms.

See the back page of this newsletter for your Council Rep’s contact information.
