The Anointing of God
No king or priest could take up leadership without first being anointed• Aaron & sons – Ex 30:30-33• David – 1 Sam 16:1, 12-13• Saul – 1 Sam 10:1,6-7,9
• Everything used in the service of God was anointed - Ex 30:22-28; Ex 40:9-16.
• Disciples needed to be anointed - Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8• Jesus was anointed before He began His public
ministry - Matt 3:16-17; Luke 3:21-23
1. Anointing breaks yokes
Isaiah 10:27 (NKJV) 27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of
the anointing oil.
2. Anointing brings healing & freedom
Isaiah 61:1-7 (NIV) / Luke 4:18-19 (NIV)1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the
Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favour and the day of vengeance of our
God, to comfort all who mourn …
3. Anointing brings authority
1 Chronicles 29:22 (NIV) 22 … Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as
king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok to be priest.
4. Anointing teaches you
1 John 2:20 (NIV) 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you
know the truth.
1 John 2:27 (NIV) 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in
you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit - just as it has taught you, remain in him.
1 Corinthians 2:12-14 (NIV) 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in
spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand
them, because they are spiritually discerned.
5. Anointing persuades & attracts people
• 1 Cor 2:4- 5 - When Holy spirit persuades people it usually lasts
• Ex 31:11; 35:15,28; 39:38; Ps 45:8 – Anointing brings a fragrance; it’s sweet & attractive.
There is something sweet & attractive about the anointing
6. Anointing brings joy
Hebrews 1:9 (NIV) (Also: Ps 45:7, Luke 10:21)
9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.
7. Anointing releases you to minister in the supernatural, as a counsellor and in
wisdom or words of knowledge.Exodus 40:15 (NIV)
15 Anoint them just as you anointed their father, so they may serve me as priests. Their anointing will be to a priesthood that will continue for all generations
to come.“
Isaiah 11:2-3 (NIV) 2 The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him - the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel
and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord-- 3 and he will delight in the fear of the
Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears …
Why oil?
Physical Oil is the symbol for the anointing of the Holy Spirit
Exodus 29:7 (NIV) 7 Take the anointing oil and anoint him by pouring it on
his head.
Spiritual Principle“FIRST IN THE NATURAL, THEN THE SPIRITUAL”
1 Corinthians 15:46 (NIV) 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and
after that the spiritual.
