Harrison
Volunteer Fair
Even though the weather
was bitter cold, the first
Volunteer Fair, held on
March 1 and 2 , andst nd
sponsored by the Harrison
Regional Chamber of
Commerce 2012-2013
Adult Leadership Class, was
a huge success. There
were 35 booths
representing many
nonprofit groups who need
volunteers to continue their
support of various
organizations and charities.
Our Friends of the Library
(FOL) booth was visited by
many people with
approximately 50 volunteer
flyers handed out. Millie Mondahl, Debbie Goens, and George Cline manned the booth and discussed FOL, our
mission and goals with most of the visitors. Missy Beavers, our new student volunteer, also helped man the
booth on Saturday. We look forward to her being able to assist us in future events. The Chamber of
Commerce has reported the Volunteer Fair will be an annual event sponsored by North Arkansas College and
New Series at Boone County Library: "Getting to Know Your National Parks,"
Tuesday, April 23, 2013 5:30 pm
We've all heard of the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, and some of us have had theopportunity to visit these wonderful national treasures. Our Buffalo National River is a lesser known park
within the National Park Service; and with more than 400 parks and monuments within the system, many areas less well known as the Buffalo. Such is the case with Grand Portage National Monument in Minnesota.
Caven Clark, Chief of Resources and Education, Buffalo National River, will spotlight Grand Portage NationalMonument in Minnesota on April 23 at 5:30 pm at the Boone County Library. During the days of fur trading inthe northeast, trappers could use this footpath at Lake Superior to reach the Arctic, the Atlantic, the Pacific
and the Gulf of Mexico with no portage longer than one day. Don’t miss this interesting presentation.

Song on May Morning
Now the bright morning-star, Day’s harbinger,
Comes dancing from the East, and leads with her
The flowery May, who from her green lap throws
The yellow cowslip, and the pale primrose.
Hail bounteous May, that dost inspire
Mirth and youth, and warm desire!
Woods and groves are of thy dressing;
Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing.
Thus we salute thee with our early song,
And welcome thee and wish thee long.
