Dear Friends,

With this issue, I wish to introduce you to the FOLBC Executive Committee

– a working, all-volunteer group. To the right is a list of the officers. And

on the back of this newsletter, page eight, can be found the group

photograph.

As mentioned, Chris is our newsletter editor. This is only a part of her

duties. She also manages all donation lists and prints regularly a list of

those individuals that have donated $25 or more, plus all those that have

donated any labor. And she prints bookplates to be inserted in every honor

book.

Janet McMurrin is our webmaster. She keeps www.folbc.org updated and

manages all email activity.

Debbie Goens is our PR guru. If you hear or see an FOLBC announcement

about book sales or FOLBC programs on local public media, it is because of

Debbie.

Alice Smith sees that appreciation messages are sent to those who have

joined any work party and maintains addresses of all members and

volunteers.

Marjorie Malone is charged with publicity of Home Bound Delivery and the

delivery itself. Contact her or the library if you or someone you know is

homebound and would like library books to read.

Beth Neel maintains day school reading materials. She sees that books are

in good repair and selects appropriate books from donations to add to the

FOLBC day school collection.

The book sale VP’s are Amanda Baker, Malinda Brown, Millie Mondahl and

Kathryn Crunkleton. They handle logistics and gather the personnel to

implement the respective book sales. This is more difficult than the two

sentences indicate.

Mary Wright is in charge of the Book Sleuths that examine and price

donated books not added to the library collection. Many on the FOLBC

Executive Committee are also members of Book Sleuths.

Jackie Hern, Shirley Copeland, George Cline, and Kathryn Crunkleton have

titles that make their duties self explanatory.

Contact us, join us, and serve your community.

Harrison

Volunteer Fair

Even though the weather

was bitter cold, the first

Volunteer Fair, held on

March 1 and 2 , andst nd

sponsored by the Harrison

Regional Chamber of

Commerce 2012-2013

Adult Leadership Class, was

a huge success. There

were 35 booths

representing many

nonprofit groups who need

volunteers to continue their

support of various

organizations and charities.

Our Friends of the Library

(FOL) booth was visited by

many people with

approximately 50 volunteer

flyers handed out. Millie Mondahl, Debbie Goens, and George Cline manned the booth and discussed FOL, our

mission and goals with most of the visitors. Missy Beavers, our new student volunteer, also helped man the

booth on Saturday. We look forward to her being able to assist us in future events. The Chamber of

Commerce has reported the Volunteer Fair will be an annual event sponsored by North Arkansas College and

the Chamber.

Buffalo National River Partners Presents

New Series at Boone County Library: "Getting to Know Your National Parks,"

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 5:30 pm

We've all heard of the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, and some of us have had theopportunity to visit these wonderful national treasures. Our Buffalo National River is a lesser known park

within the National Park Service; and with more than 400 parks and monuments within the system, many areas less well known as the Buffalo. Such is the case with Grand Portage National Monument in Minnesota.

Caven Clark, Chief of Resources and Education, Buffalo National River, will spotlight Grand Portage NationalMonument in Minnesota on April 23 at 5:30 pm at the Boone County Library. During the days of fur trading inthe northeast, trappers could use this footpath at Lake Superior to reach the Arctic, the Atlantic, the Pacific

and the Gulf of Mexico with no portage longer than one day. Don’t miss this interesting presentation.

George Cline, President of Friends of the Library, representing FOL at the volunteer fair.

Song on May Morning

Now the bright morning-star, Day’s harbinger,

Comes dancing from the East, and leads with her

The flowery May, who from her green lap throws

The yellow cowslip, and the pale primrose.

Hail bounteous May, that dost inspire

Mirth and youth, and warm desire!

Woods and groves are of thy dressing;

Hill and dale doth boast thy blessing.

Thus we salute thee with our early song,

And welcome thee and wish thee long.
