Based on Alive-O 6: Term 2, Lesson 3Refer to Teacher’s Book pp. 179-192
What am I trying to do?To explore the image of the Church as the Body of Christ.
Why?To develop the children’s understanding of the Church
and its membership.
After Jesus left, He sent the
Holy Spirit to his friends.
They wanted to teach as many
people as possible about Jesus and they tried to live as
he wanted them to.
One man, a powerful officer named Saul, was very much against these Christians because
their followers were growing in number every day. He tried to arrest these followers of Jesus
Christ and put them in prison.
One day Saul was travelling on the road to a city, called Damascus, where he
thought he would find and arrest
many Christians.
As he came near the city a bright
light from heaven suddenly flashed around him. Saul
fell to the ground.
He heard a voice saying to him,“Saul, Saul, why are you against me?”
Saul said, Saul said,
““Who are you, Who are you, Lord?”Lord?”
The voice The voice answered, answered,
“ “ I am the one I am the one whom you are whom you are trying to hurt. trying to hurt.
Get up now Get up now and go into and go into
the city. the city. Someone Someone
there will tell there will tell you what you you what you
must do.”must do.”
The men travelling with Saul stood there but they said nothing.
They heard the voice, but they saw no one.
Saul got up from the ground. He opened his eyes but he could not see. So the men took his hand and led him
to Damascus.
Damascus
For three days, Saul could not see and he did not eat or drink.
There was a follower of Jesus in Damascus called Ananias. The Lord said
to him in a vision, “Ananias”. Ananias answered, “Here I am, Lord.”
Get up and go to the street called Straight Street.
Find the house of Judas. Ask for a man called Saul from
the city of Tarsus. He is there now, praying. Saul has seen a vision. In the vision, a man called Ananias comes
to him and lays his hands on him. Then he sees again.
God spoke to Ananias:
But Ananias answered ,
“Lord, many people have told me about this
man and the terrible things he did to your people in Jerusalem.
Now he has come here to Damascus.”
But the Lord said to Ananias ,
“Go, I have chosen Saul for important work.”
So Ananias went to the house of Judas. He laid his hands on Saul and said,
“Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus sent me. He sent me that you may see again and be filled with
the Holy Spirit.”
Saul
Ananias
Immediately Saul was able to see again. After eating some food, his strength returned.
Saul became known as Paul and from then on he did important work, teaching people about
the Lord Jesus.
The Lord Jesus told Ananias that he had chosen Saul to do important work.
