Last Sermon of Messenger of Allah(Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam)

This sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of Dhul Hijjah 10 A.H. in the 'Uranah

valley of Mount Arafat' (in Mecca).

"O people! Listen to my word, for I do not think that I and you will meet again in

this place and perform Hajj together after this year. O people! Allah (swt) says

"We created you from one male and female and made you into tribes and, so

as to be known to one another. Surely the noblest among you in the sight of

Allah is he who is the most righteous." (49:13)

Your Lord (Rabb) is one and your father Adam is one who was fashioned out of

clay. An Arab has no superiority over an Ajami (non-Arab) nor an Ajami over an

Arab. Similarly neither a red coloured person is superior to a black coloured

one nor a black coloured one to red coloured one, but for their Taqwa (fear of

God)." He further added that "every claim of privilege whether that of blood

and property belongs to pre-Islamic period and is under my feet". As the

Prophet concluded his sermon from Jabal Ar Rahmah (Mount Mercy) in the

plains of Arafat that the verse relating to the perfection of the Deen was

revealed to him: "Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed my

favour upon you and approved al-Islam as a Deen (way of Life) for you." (5:3).

"Indeed Allah conferred a great favour on the believers that He

raised among them (the most eminent) Messenger (blessings

and peace be upon him) from among themselves who recites to

them His Revelations, purifies them and educates them on the

Book and Wisdom though, before that, they were in manifest

error".(Chapter 3:164)

All praises to the ALLAH Almighty who has enlightened all

aspects pertaining to existence by means of leader of the

messengers (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

and has erased the darkness of falsehood by light of truth

and guided the human race onto the open path of truth,

when it was wandering through the narrow tunnels of

misguidance. I praise only him, with praise which is

countless, holy and pure and which shall fill all corners of

earth and sky, and I witness that there is no God but

ALLAH and He is one with no partners and is sustainer of

all creations from beginning to end, and I witness that

Holy Prophet MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

be upon him) is his servant and messenger, and is most

beloved of ALLAH Almighty, and has been appointed and

sent upon all the creations as mercy, glide tiding for

believers and fear warner for disbelievers, leader of the

pious people and savior of the sinners on the day of

judgment .

May ALLAH's blessings and blessings be upon the Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him), his

holy family and holy companions till the day of judgment

and May ALLAH Almighty be convinced with them.

This book is a brief description of holy birth of Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) in the light of

collection of authentic ahadeeth collection that are

narrated, approved and liked by great scholars and

Imams of hadith and Islamic sciences of early ages.

The lineage of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) is as follows:

Abul Qasim, MUHAMMAD son of Abdullah son of Abdul-

Mutallib son of Hashim son of Abd Munaaf son of Qusay

son of Kilab son of Murrah son of Ka`ab son of Luway son

of Ghalib son of Fahrr son of Maalik son of Nazar son of

Kinana son of Khuzaima son of Mudrika son of Ilyas son of

Muzar son of Nizaar son of Ma'add son of Adnan (1)

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

the supreme leader of entire human race has honored the

holy city of Makkah as his birthplace and has honored the

holy city of Madinah by migrating there and choosing it as

his final resting place. May ALLAH's mercy and blessings

be upon him whenever those who love and remember him

and send blessings upon him and whenever those who are

forgetful forget sending blessings upon him.

His great grandfather Adnan was from the family of

Prophet Ismail (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) who was son of Holy Prophet Ibrahim (Peace &

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him). His grandfather Abdul

Mutallib son of Hashim was the leader of tribe of Quraish,

the custodian of holy haram, and was highly respected.

The tribe of Quraish who had the distinction of belonging

to the family of Prophet Ismail (Alaihis Salaam) was the

most respected & supreme among all the tribes of the

Arabs.

Almighty ALLAH revealed to Hazrath Abdul Mutallib (May

ALLAH be pleased with him) in his dream about the

location where the well of holy water Zam Zam was

situated. This place was clearly visible during the times of

Prophet Ismail (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) and his children. Since the place was leveled by Banu

Jarham while they were migrating from the holy city of

Makkah, the tribe of Banu Khiza`ah who became the

custodian of holy haram after 500 years of Banu jarham's

departure were not aware of the location of the well of

holy water Zam Zam.

The location of well of holy water Zam Zam was revealed

to Hazrath Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased with

him) in his dream he immediately decided to dig the place

but all the people of Quraish rejected his idea except his

son Hazrath Haarith who helped him to accomplish this

task. Finally when the digging was over Hazrath Abdul

Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased with him) could figure out

the location of Zam Zam well and during the digging work

he found the ornaments which were offered as gift to holy

Ka`abah by ancient people. When the people of Quraish

saw this they were highly impressed with Abdul Mutallib

(May ALLAH be pleased with him) and his determination

and accepted his piety and confirmed that ALLAH

Almighty has rewarded him with bounty and blessings (2)

After this incident Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased

with him) made a wish that if he is blessed with 10

children he will sacrifice one of the child in the path of

ALLAH Almighty. Very soon he was blessed with 10

children & according to his wish he decided to pick one of

them for sacrifice by means of a draw. The draw revealed

the name of Abdullah (May ALLAH be pleased with him)

holy father of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

Page 5: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

ALLAH (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) to

describe about his personality and he described himself as

follows:

"I am the supplication of my father Ibrahim (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and glad tiding of Isa

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) when I

arrived in the womb of my mother I saw a light which

originated from her and which illuminated the city of

Busrah located in the county of Syria" (7)

It is reported by Abu Umama Bahali (RA) who says that he

requested the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) that : Oh Messenger of ALLAH (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) you describe to me

about the beginning of your appearance and he replied: "

I am the supplication of my father Ibrahim (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and glad tiding of Isa

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) when I

arrived in the womb of my mother I saw a light which

originated from her and which illuminated the localities of

Syria " (8)

Urbaaz bin Saariya Salma reported that Holy Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) said: "That

indeed I was the last messenger and Prophet when Adam

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was in the

stage of creation in the form of clay. I will inform you

about my beginning, I am the supplication of Hazrat

Ibrahim (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him),glide tiding of Isa (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) and dream of my mother that she saw and this

is how mothers of believers see" (9).

It is reported by Hazrat Umar (May Allah be pleased with

him) that Adam (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) said "Oh my ALLAH I ask you with the waseela of

MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

be upon him) and Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased

with him) was ready to complete his wish by sacrificing

Abdullah (May ALLAH be pleased with him) holy father of

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him), but the people of Quraish persuaded him to change

his decision and finally he agreed to sacrifice 100 camels

instead (3) as described in detail in my book " As-Seerath-

un-Nabaweeyah".

After few years Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased

with him) married his son Abdullah (May ALLAH be

pleased with him) to the most respected and noble lady

from the tribe of Banu Zuhra and her name was Aamenah

(May ALLAH be pleased with her) daughter of Wahab son

of Abd Munaf (4) and thus Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) arrived in his mother's

womb.

MUHAMMAD son of Ishaaq son of Yassaar says that

Hazratha Aamena (May ALLAH be pleased with her) used

to say that when Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) arrived in her womb she was told in

her dreams that "The leader of the Muslim ummah is in

your womb and when he is born you should say ….." (5)

And that the sign of his birth will be that with his birth

there will be a bright light which will spread such that

streets of city of Busrah in the distant Syria will be

illuminated and when he is born you name him as

"MUHAMMAD", in holy books of Torah and Injeel (Bible) he

is referred by name "Ahmed", and the entire creations of

earth and skies will praise him (6)

Thor bin Yazeed who has reported on authority of Khalid

bin Ma`adaan narrates to me that:"The companions of

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

have reported that they asked the holy messenger of

Page 6: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

109

to forgive me, and ALLAH Almighty asked in response:

How did you know MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) whereas I have not yet created him?

To which Adam (Alaihis Salaam) replied When you created

me with your hands and blew your soul into me I lifted my

head and saw "La Ilaha Illallah Muhammed ur

Rasoolullah" written on the foundation of Arsh and hence I

realized that you will inscribe the name of someone who is

your most beloved among all your creations". ALLAH

Almighty replied "Oh Adam you said the truth indeed he is

the most beloved to me amongst all my creations, and

since you have aksed for forgiveness with his waseela I

forgive you, if MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

be upon him) was not created I would not have created

you as well".

The Description of holy Birth of Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him):

When Almighty ALLAH decided to reveal the existence of

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

and decided to provide guidance to every creation by the

light of Prophethood, and decided to have mercy on his

creations through the medium of Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) so that he brings all the

creations close to the oneness of their creator then the

pregnant holy mother of the Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) started getting labor pains on the

enlightened night of Sunday and as per the most

authentic commentaries this was the year of elephants

(Year when the incident of Ashab-e-feel took place).

According to the most famous reports of Ibne Ishaq The

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

was born in the month of Rabi-ul-Awwal (10) and scholars

of science of Seerah have always authenticated this to be

true.

It is reported in Sahih Muslim by Hazrat Abu Qatada

Ansari (May ALLAH be pleased with him) that the Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was

asked about the day of Monday and he replied: "This is the

day on which I was born and on the same day the Wahi

was sent upon me" (11)

Ibne-e-Abbas (May ALLAH be pleased with him) reported

that: Your Prophet was born on Monday, he was given

Prophethood on Monday, he migrated on Monday and he

entered the holy city of Madinah on Monday. May peace

and blessings be upon him.(12)

It is reported by Ibrahim bin Manzar huzami (RA) : The

fact that none of our Aalims have doubt about is that Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was

born in the year of elephants and forty years after this he

had declared his Prophethood.

Haafiz Baihaqi on his authority has reported by Usman bin

abu A`as Saqafi that he narrated: "My mother told me

that I was present in the house of Aamena bint-e-Wahab

(May ALLAH be pleased with her) on the night when Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was

born, and every object in the house was highly illuminated

and when I saw stars coming close to me, I almost felt as if

they will fall on me".

Makhzoom bin Haani Makhzoomi narrated that his father

who was at the age of 150 years reported that: When the

night arrived in which Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) was born the palaces of Kisra

started shaking with a loud noise and 14 of its pillars fell

down. The fire of Faras extinguished on its own which was

continuously burning for the last 1000 years. The water of

Sawa (13) lake disappeared and it became completely

dry. And he described the dream of Mobzaan who was the

Qazi of fire worshippers who saw in his dream that brave

hearted camels were leading the Arabic horses and that

these camels had crossed the river Dajla and have speard

over the entire country of Faras. All fire worshippers and

Page 7: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

1211

kisra were frightened and the advisor of Kasra Noman

bin Manzar sent Abdul Masseh bin Baqeela Gussani to

Sateeh who was a great fortune teller living around Syria

so that he could explain this dream. When Abdul Masseh

reached Sateeh before he could say a word Sateeh

opened his eyes and said : Abdul Masseh you have

reached Sateeh after riding a fast running camel, and the

king of Banu Sasaan had sent you, due to shacking of

palaces of kisra, fire getting extinguished and because of

the dream of Mobzan, he has seen brave hearted camels

were leading the Arabic horses and that these camels had

crossed the river Dajla and had speard over the entire

country of Faras" he further added "Oh Abdul Masseh

when the people of faith become majority and person with

Asa (stick) appears and valley of Samawah starts flooding

and Sawa lake becomes dry, fire of Faras is extinguished

then Syria will not remain Syria of Sateeh and it will have

as many kings as there are houses, and whatever is bound

to happen will happen and Sateeh got up from his place

(14)

This dream was a warning that the kingdom of rulers of

Iran will end and their kingdom will become an Islamic

state and Arabs will enter Iran and it became true later as

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

said : "When Qaisar will die there will not be another

Qaisar and when Kisra will die there will not be another

Kisra and I swear by ALLAH in whose custody is my life

you will spend wealth of both Qaisar and Kisra in the path

of ALLAH" (15)

The essence of describing previous passages is to

conclude that the night when Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was born, it was a

blessing for believers. It was a pure and holy night whose

light was evident enough and it deserves to be valued and

respected. It was in this night that Almighty ALLAH

revealed the impeccable personality of Holy Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) whose Noor

kept travelling from one pious person to another and this

chain of transmission of Noor of Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) started from Prophet

Adam (Alaihis Salaam) and ended with Abdullah bin Abul

Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased with him), and this Noor

further transmitted from Hazrat Abullah (May ALLAH be

pleased with him) to Hazratha Aamena bint-e-Wahab

(May ALLAH be pleased with her), and finally Holy Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was born on

this respectable and blessed night.

The various aspects of events that occurred during the

birth of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) kept everyone astonished and amazed and

these have been described in the books of hadith.

Muhammed bin Ishaq has described many distinctive

features of birth of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) one of them is that he was born with

his umbilical cord detached from his mother and he was

already circumcised and soon after his birth he fell down

into prostration before ALLAH. As per the custom of that

time a few women covered him (Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)) with a pot made up of

stones but the pot overturned and the women saw that his

(Prophet) eyes are open and he is staring at the sky.

The women informed about these events to his

grandfather Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased with

him), since his father had passed away before his birth.

His grandfather Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased

with him) told the women to safeguard this new born baby

and that he has great expectations with this boy who will

have great dignity, honor and luck.

Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased with him)

Page 8: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

1413

performed Aqeeqa of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) on the seventh day after his birth

and invited the people of Quraish. After the food the

people of Quraish asked Abdul Mutalib as to what name he

has chosen for the new born boy? And he replied that: "I

have named him 'MUHAMMAD'", to which the people

asked him as to why he ignored names from his family for

this new born boy. Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH be pleased

with him) said:" I wish that ALLAH praises this boy on sky

and creations of ALLAH praise him on the earth hence I

chose this name".

The scholars say that ALLAH had informed Abdul Mutallib

(May ALLAH be pleased with him) to choose the name

'MUHAMMAD' for Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) since this name is a combination of

all attributes that are worthy of praise, and such that his

holy name matches his highest character and noble

attributes. As his uncle Abu Taalib said:" In order to honor

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

with dignity and piety ALLAH has associated Prophet's

name to his name and that ALLAH the owner of Arsh is

Mehmood and Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) is MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him)".

In Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim a hadith of Imam Zahri

is recorded which is reported by Muhammad bin Muta`m

bin Jubair and who reported from his father who said: I

have heard Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

be upon him) saying that I have many names. I am

MUHAMMAD, I am Ahmed, I am Mahi, by me ALLAH will

abolish Kufr, I am Hashir as people will be gathered near

my feet and that I am Aaqib as there is no Prophet after

me (16)

It is recorded by Bukhari and Muslim and reported by Abu

Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him) who said that

messenger of ALLAH (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) said: "Keep names on my name but do not

adopt my title". (17)

It is recorded by Tirmidhi that Prophet of ALLAH (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) said: "Do not

combine my name and title, I am Abul-Qasim, ALLAH

gives Rizq and I distribute". (18)

Imam Ahmed (May ALLAH be pleased with him) has

reported on authority of Anas (May ALLAH be pleased with

him) who said: When Ibrahim bin Maria (May ALLAH be

pleased with him) was born Jibrael (Alaihis Salaam) came

to The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) and said: "Ya Aba Ibrahim peace and blessings

be upon you". (19)

Description of Fostering of Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

The first person to foster the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was Thuwaiba (May

ALLAH be pleased with her) the slave girl of Abu Lahab.

She only had given the good news of Prophet's birth to

Abu Lahab and was freed by him in reward. After the

death of Abu Lahab, Abbas bin Abdul Mutallib (May ALLAH

be pleased with him) saw Abu Lahab in his dream in a very

bad condition and asked him what did he get? Abu Lahab

replied after getting separated from you I have received

nothing except water which flows from this finger of mine

from which I had freed Thuwaiba (May Allah be pleased

with her) and he pointed to his finger (20)

When Thuwaiba (May Allah be pleased with her) slave girl

of Abu Lahab fostered Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) with her milk, It benefited Abu

Lahab due to which he was supplied with water after his

death inspite of the fact that Abu Lahab is the same

Page 9: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

1615

person who has been condemned by an entire Surah of

Holy Quran.

Suhaili and others have reported that Abu Lahab told his

brother Abbas bin Abdul Mutallib in his dream that : Every

Monday my punishment is reduced (21)

Scholars have described that the reason for reduction in

punishment of Abu Lahab as: "He had freed Thuwaiba

(RA) the very moment she had given the good news of

birth of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) and hence every time this moment arrives his

punishment is reduced". The Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) said: "Thuwaiba has

fostered me and Abu Salma hence do not offer your

daughters and sisters to me for marriage" (22).

It is reported in Sahih Bukhari by Urwah (May Allah be

pleased with him) and he said: Thuwaiba was slave girl of

Abu Lahab who was freed by him and hence she fostered

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

with her milk. (23)

Description of Haleema Sa`adiya's Fostering of

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him):

Ibne-e-Ishaq reported on authority of Jahem Ibne Abu

Jahem who reported on authority of a person who heard

Abdullah bin Ja`fer saying: The narrator has described

about Haleema bint-e-Abu Zoyeb and a group of other

women who came to Makkah. These women used to visit

the holy city of Makkah every year in search of infants who

were in need of breast feeding. According to the custom of

that time the people of Makkah used to send their infants

with the women to different villages so that they can be

fostered and brought up in more natural and healthy

weather. The area of Banu Sa`ad was the most popular for

this purpose.

Hazrath Haleema (May ALLAH be pleased with her)

narrates that there was no woman in our group who was

given the offer to foster the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) but they all rejected the

offer thinking that he is an orphan, in fact we used to

expect a good amount of money in return from the father

of the infant who we used to foster. When I did not get any

other infant to feed I chose to feed the Holy Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and brought

him near my camel and realized that the milk started

flowing in my chest and I fed the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) until his thirst was

quenched, and then I fed his foster brother as well until he

was satisfied. Very soon when my husband went near our

weak and old she camel he saw that the she camel has got

enough milk in her breasts, looking at this my husband

told me that: "Oh Haleema, I swear to ALLAH that you

have a noble and dignified infant with you". Haleema (May

ALLAH be pleased with her) describes that, "we all

started returning towards our village and realized that our

animal is running very fast whereas it was very weak and

could not run properly before this day and other women

travelling praised Haleema saying she has become a

dignified women now". Haleema (May ALLAH be pleased

with her) further narrates that, "we finally reached the

area of Banu Sa`ad and which according to me was the

most barren land, however when my goats and animals

used to go for grazing they would return with their

stomach full in the evening, and we would get enough

milk from our animals. On the other hand the goats and

animals of other neighbors used to return hungry in the

evening and would not have even a single drop of milk in

their breasts. The neighbors used to curse their

Shepherds that the animals of Haleema gaze very well

and that they should send their animals along with

animals of Haleema. The shepherds started sending their

animals along with our animals for grazing but others

Page 10: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

1817

animals would still return hungry without a drop of milk in

their breasts and our animals would return fully satisfied

and with breasts full of milk. ALLAH Almighty kept

showering his grace on us and two years passed and it

was strange to see the Holy Prophet was growing very fast

as compared to other children of his age and he was very

healthy and strong at the age of two. After this we took

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

to his mother and took her permission to bring him back

with us for another few months".

"One day Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) was playing with his foster brother behind our

house with lambs and suddenly his foster brother came

running to us and said: You know that two men in white

dress came to the Quraishi brother, they made him lie

down and they have cut open his stomach.

Haleema narrates that after listening to this, me and my

husband went running to the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and saw that he is

standing and his face has become pale. My husband

embraced him and asked, "What happened my son"? And

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

replied, "two men in white dress came to me they made

me lie down, they cut opened my stomach and took out

something from inside and threw it away and brought my

stomach to its original form". We heard this and brought

him back home. My husband told me: "Oh Haleema, I am

afraid that if this child is affected by some evil force and let

us go and return this child back to his people". We took

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

back to his mother. She asked, "why you have brought

him back whereas you were very keen on keeping him

with you". We replied that, "we are afraid that something

wrong might happen to his life and we are worried hence

we brought him back".

Hazrat Aamena (May ALLAH be pleased with her)

enquired: "What is the real problem? Can you please

reveal the truth". And when she insisted, we described the

entire episode which occurred with her beloved son. After

listening to this she replied: "You are frightened by devil

for my son? I swear by ALLAH indeed devil cannot reach

my son. My son is a very dignified person, if you are

curious I can describe about my son", and we replied

saying: "Please do describe about the attributes of your

son to us". Hazrat Aamena (May ALLAH be pleased with

her) said: When I conceived the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him), my pregnancy was

extremely light weight and I saw a dream in which a very

strange light originated from me which illuminated the

palaces of Syria, and during the time of his birth he was

unlike any other child born in this world, he took support

of his own hands and had lifted his head to the sky. Hence

you leave him on his own". (24)

It is reported by Sahih Muslim that Holy Prophet (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was playing with

children in his childhood and Jibrael (Alaihis Salaam)

came to him and made him lie down on his back and cut

opened his chest and took out his heart, from his heart

Jibrael (Alaihis Salaam) separated a small clot of blood

and said this part belongs to devil, his heart was then

placed in a golden plate and was washed with Zam Zam

water and it was restored back on its original place. The

children came running to his foster mother and said that

MUHAMMAD (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

has been killed. When people came to him they saw that

he has become pale. (25)

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that

he used to observe the marks of the stitching on Holy

Prophet's chest (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him). It is reported by Bukhari, Muslim and others that

Page 11: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

2019

Hazrat Anas (May Allah be pleased with him), Hazrat Abu

Zar and Hazrat Malik bin Sa`asa`a (May Allah be pleased

with them) have narrated a hadith on the topic of Asra and

Mairaj and have described that even during the night of

Mairaj the chest of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) was cut open, may ALLAH's mercy

and blessings be upon him (26)

In conclusion the fostering of Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) by the women of Banu

Sa`ad in particular and in general for other tribes was an

act of grace for all of them. In particular when the battle of

Hunain happened the women of Banu Sa`ad become the

prisoners of war and were brought to Holy Prophet (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him). They pleaded for

mercy to the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

be upon him) and asked for a favor in return for fostering

the Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) and Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be

upon him) demonstrated an act of great generosity and

mercy upon these people. When people of Banu Sa`ad

embraced Islam one of them pleaded to Holy Prophet

(Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him): "We are

related and associated with you and Oh Messenger of

ALLAH the difficult situation we are facing is not hidden

from you hence we request you to have mercy on us . The

spokesperson of Banu Sa`ad Zuhair bin Suru stood up

and said "Oh messenger of ALLAH in the crowd of

prisoners of war there are women who are your aunts and

those who fostered you, who were responsible for your

upbringing during your infant age, If we had fostered

Harith bin abi shamar or Noman Bin Manzar and would

have faced similar situation which we are facing with you,

we would have expected fair dealing and mercy from

them, and that you are better in dealings and

guardianship than these men, after this he recited poetry

in which he requested Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) for mercy and described

upbringing and fostering of Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) by his tribe. When Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

heard these submissions he replied: "Whatever is my

share and share of Banu Hashim in this wealth it belong to

you and ALLAH and believers shouted "whatever is our

share, it belongs to ALLAH and his Messenger"

Many Scholars of Seerah have written that the number of

prisoners from Banu Sa`ad were about six thousand.

Abul-Hasan Farasi Laghawi says that: The amount of

wealth which was returned back to Banu Sa`ad was worth

about fifty crore dirhams

Description of Physical attributes & Noble

character of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him):

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

had moderate height neither very tall nor very short, his

complexion was neither very fair nor very wheatish, his

hairs was neither very curly nor very straight. When he

departed from this world his age had crossed sixty and

there were less than twenty white hairs in his head and

beard (27)

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

had a big head, round face, black eyes, long eye brows,

soft cheeks and big mouth. His face used to glitter like a

full moon and he had a dense beard. Holy Prophet (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) had seal of

Prophethood between his both shoulders, there was good

enough distance between his shoulders and his hairs used

to touch his shoulders and sometimes his hairs would

reach up to his ears. He used to comb his hairs and create

partition between them, His shoulders, arms and upper

chest had hairs. He had long hands, broad palms and feet,

fat fingers, and chest and stomach was aligned. His open

Page 12: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

2221

body parts were bright and shining. He had very little flesh

on hips. He used to walk leaning forward as if he is coming

downhill or as if the earth has been folded for him.

It is reported by Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with

him) that: We used to struggle to walk along with Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and

he used to walk comfortably without any concern (28)

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

used to wear cloths which would cover his entire body. He

liked wearing Shirt, trouser and woolen or Yemeni shawl.

Sometimes he would wear jubbah (overcoat) with tight

sleeves. He would cover his head with Amama (turbun)

which would also cover half of his face. He would also use

Shawl and Tehbund. He never rejected any halal food and

never felt shy for food and clothes.

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

was always very brave and soft spoken and was matchless

in generosity, truthfulness. His holy companions say:

Whenever war would be at its peak we would take shelter

of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) (29)

During the war of Hunain when the companions of Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

dispersed and backed out, only about 100 companions

were left out. The numbers of enemies were in thousands

and were fully prepared with arms, arrows and swords.

Despite this situation Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) was courageously taking his horse

in front of enemies and would proclaim his name and

would say:"I am the Prophet and this is not false and I am

the son of Abdul Mutalib". This was due to the fact that

Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

had complete faith and confidence in ALLAH Almighty and

his help, guidance, promises and was determinant to take

the message of ALLAH to its culmination of success.

Indeed believers were helped by ALLAH, the enemies

were crushed and were brought as prisoners along with

their children, and the holy companions returned and

brought the enemies as prisoners with their hands and

feet cuffed in chains and they were presented before Holy

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him).

The generosity of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of

ALLAH be upon him) was matchless and he would never

say no to anyone. Whatever he used to get something he

preferred spending on others and never kept anything

deposited for him.

Hazrat Ayesha (May ALLAH be pleased with her) was

asked about the character of Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and she replied "His

character was nothing else but Holy Quran" (30)

Many scholars described the meaning of this as:

Whatever has been told in Holy Quran to follow the

Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him)

would follow the same and whatever has been told in Holy

Quran to refrain from the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) would stay away from it.

Whatever has been advised He would lead in doing that

and whatever has been abstained He would stay away

from it more than anyone else

ALLAH Almighty says in Holy Quran:

Noon (Only ALLAH and the Messenger [blessings and

peace be upon him] know the real meaning.) By the pen

and by that (subject) which (the angels) writes down. (O

Esteemed Beloved!) By the Grace of your Lord you are not

(at all) insane, and assuredly for you there is a reward that

will never end, and assuredly you are placed high on the

Most Glorious and Exalted (seat of) Character (i.e.

adorned with the Quranic morality and endowed with the

character traits of ALLAH). (Surah Al-Qalam: 1-4)

Page 13: The Birth of Messenger of Allah by Ibne Katheer[1]

2423

Many scholars of early ages have said that, this means

that Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) is on the most superior deen.

Abdullah bin Salam says : "When the Messenger of

ALLAH came to Madinah I was among those who

maintained distance with him, but when I saw your holy

face I realized this face cannot be of a liar and the first

speech which I heard from the Holy Prophet (Peace and

Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) was this : "Oh people,

cultivate the habit of passing salutations on each other,

feed people, be merciful with others, and when people

sleep in the night you offer prayers, and thus you

peacefully enter the heavens".(31)

The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH be upon

him) had noble attributes and character from his birth till

declaration of his Prophethood and until he passed away.

He demonstrated noble attributes such as truthfulness,

safeguarding the wealth of others, mercy, piety, bravery,

night awaking, obedient to ALLAH in every situation,

abundance of knowledge, oratory, love, affection, helpful

to needy, sympathetic to orphans, widows and helpless.

Moreover he had attractive and charming appearance,

most beautiful face and smile. He was from the most

respectful and supreme family, his family and lineage was

the supreme on earth and was given highest respect due

to its association with the holy city and country. ALLAH

Almighty says: ALLAH knows best where he has to keep

his Prophethood. The Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) said "ALLAH Almighty chose Ismail

(Alaihis Salaam) from the children of Ibrahim (Alaihis

Salaam), chose Banu Kanana from Banu Ismail, chose

Quraish from Banu Kanana, chose Banu Hashim from

Quairsh and chose me from Banu Hashim". (32)

Hakim has reported in his Mustadrak on authority of Ibne

e Umar (May ALLAH be pleased with him): ALLAH has

created seven skies and chose the highest sky, and then

inhibited his chosen creations in it, and then He created all

creations, and chose Banu Aadam, and chose Arabs from

Banu Adam, chose Muzar from Arabs, chose Quraish from

Muzar, chose Banu Hashim from Quersh and chose me

from Banu Hashim. Indeed I am chosen among the

chosen ones. Hence those who loved Arabs loved them for

love towards me, and those who hate Arabs hated them

due to hatred towards me.

Hakim (May ALLAH be pleased with him) has reported on

authority of Hazrat Ayesha (May ALLAH be pleased with

her), She reported that Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings

of ALLAH be upon him) has told : Jibrail (Alaihis Salaam)

told me that I have searched from east to west of the

earth but no one is as supreme as the Holy Prophet(Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) and I have searched

the entire east to west of the earth but could not find a

family or lineage more supreme than Banu Hashim.

Hafiz Baihaqi says that previous hadith of Wasala bin

alasqa`a is a proof of the authenticity of these narrations.

The uncle of Holy Prophet (Peace and Blessings of ALLAH

be upon him) Abu Talib was following his old religion but

used to defend and support him. Ibne e Ishaq has

reported a part of his poetry which means; If people of

Quraish gather to feel proud of them they will be proud of

Banu Abd-e-Munaf, because they are the true

representatives of Quraish, and if you see in Banu Abd-e-

Munaf you will find Banu Hashim to be the most noble and

respectful. And if Banu Hashim has to be proud of them for

them there is the holy personality of Muhammed (Peace

and Blessings of ALLAH be upon him) who is the chosen

one from Banu Hashim, the most pious among them and

representative of their noble attributes.
