The Biblical History Center by Lindsay Pipkin During the months of August through October, 5th grade studies the rise and fall of the Roman Empire while also reading about Jesus’ ministry in the book of Matthew. In order to learn more about the world during this time period, we visited the Biblical History Center in LaGrange, Georgia, on November 4th. We were able to encounter the ancient biblical world and learn about the culture during the times of Roman Empire and when Jesus walked on Earth. Our tour guide, Mr. Jordin, led us to step back in time as we sat in an authentic goat hair tent like the nomadic shepherds have lived in for thousands of years. There, he taught us how to make bread and butter. Students were able to enjoy their bread with honey and their homemade butter. We were also able to visit a model village and city gate area to see what life was like 2,000 years ago. Students were able to try out a model of an olive press and learned how people made olive oil. Finally, we were able to see 250 ancient artifacts in real-life settings in the Biblical Life Artifacts gallery! The museum had ancient tombs, games and weapons used at the time of Jesus’ life. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed traveling back in time! Above: Lily-Kate, Brittain, Audrey and Cate enjoy their homemade shep- herd’s bread with honey and butter.
