Meals With JesusMealtimes are far more than occasions for individuals to consume

nourishment. Being welcomed at a table for the purpose of eating food with

another person is a ceremony richly symbolic of friendship, intimacy, and

unity. Thus betrayal or unfaithfulness toward anyone with whom one has

shared the table is viewed as particularly reprehensible. On the other hand,

when persons are estranged, a meal invitation opens the way to

    reconciliation.

It has been said that in the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is either on His way to a

meal or on His way returning from a meal. Jesus often used meals as a way

to proclaim the blessings received with the coming of the Kingdom of God.

The Word of God tells us that in the intimate encounters with Jesus,

centered on table fellowship, you receive grace at the table (Luke 5.27-32),

community at the table (Luke 7.36-50), hope at the table (Luke 9.7-20),mission at the table (Luke 14.1-24), salvation at the table (Luke 22.7-30), and

promise at the table (Luke 24.13-35).

Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for brining the Kingdom of God to you!

Oh sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things!

His right hand and his holy arm

    have worked salvation for him.

The LORD has made known his

    salvation; he has revealed his

righteousness in the sight of the

    nations.

He has remembered his steadfastlove and faithfulness to the house

    of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen

    the salvation of our God.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD,

all the earth; break forth into

    joyous song and sing praises!

Sing praises to the LORD with thelyre, with the lyre and the sound

    of melody!

With trumpets and the sound of

the horn make a joyful noise

    before the King, the LORD!
