Cluny, Arènes de Lutèce, and the Institut
du Monde Arabe, making it an ideal
base for exploring the city.
Day 1: Friday, May 22 Departure from the U.S.
Day 2: Saturday, May 23 Arrival in London / Welcome and Orientation
Upon arrival, experience a panoramic overview of London’s monuments
and most famous sights. After check-in at the hotel, join fellow
participants for Orientation and a Welcome Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3: Sunday, May 24 National Portrait Gallery
Begin the day with a lecture at the hotel and then take the underground
line to the National Portrait Gallery. Spanning six centuries of history, the
Gallery tells the story of Britain through portraits of men and women
who have made a significant contribution to British life. From Elizabeth I
and Henry VIII to Shakespeare, Cromwell, Nelson, Dickens, Churchill and
Beckham, gain an overview of the collection, seeing the highlights on
display. After lunch, enjoy a walking exploration of London with some free
time to explore on your own.
Day 4: Monday, May 25 Canterbury
Today, enjoy a full-day excursion to Canterbury to experience the
magnificent Canterbury Cathedral and city walls and enjoy the beautiful
countryside of Kent, one of England's most beautiful counties.
Day 5: Tuesday, May 26 Discover Kensington Palace / Hyde Park
Start the morning with a special presentation: “Diana, Glimpses of
a Modern Princess.” Later, coach to Kensington Palace. As part of
Kensington’s transformation, “Victoria Revealed,” an exciting new
permanent exhibition explores Queen Victoria’s life and reign through her
own words. This afternoon, enjoy some free time in Hyde Park.
Day 6: Wednesday, May 27 Depart London and TGV Train to Paris /
Musée d’Orsay
Transfer from the hotel in London to the train station for your TGV train to
Paris. The journey takes about three hours and luggage service is available
on arrival and at the hotel. The coach will drop you off at the restaurant
at Musée d’Orsay and the luggage assistant will take luggage and carry-
ons to the rooms at the hotel. After lunch, explore the world’s largest
Impressionist painting collection at the Museum. This evening, enjoy an
evening exploration of the City of Lights.
Day 7: Thurday, May 28 Paris: Île de la Cité and Free Time
to Explore on Your Own
Discover the Île de la Cité. On this two-hour exploration led by a local
expert, learn about and explore Gothic Paris with discoveries of Notre
Dame Cathedral, the Conciergerie (where Marie-Antoinette was
imprisoned before her death by guillotine) and the exquisite Sainte
Chapelle. After lunch at a local restaurant, enjoy some free time to explore
Paris.
Day 8: Friday, May 29 The Food Culture of Paris / Rodin Museum and Garden
This morning explore the market and food culture of Paris. Discover small
shops while learning and tasting some incredible local flavors in a typical
Parisian neighborhood. This afternoon, take the metro to explore the
Musee Rodin, rated as one of the most enjoyable museum in Paris. The
museum boasts the best collection of works by the sculptors Pierre August
Rodin and Camille Claudel. It features an indoor museum and a lovely
outdoor garden, showcasing Rodin’s best work. Take the metro back to the
hotel.
Day 9: Saturday, May 30 Palace of Versailles
Today, enjoy an expert-led discovery of the Palace of Versailles, the French
royal chateau from 1682 until 1789, after the beginning of the French
Revolution. The beautiful gardens of Versailles are an excellent example of
French garden planning and are not to be missed. Our visit will include not
only the chateau itself but the numerous areas built during the reigns of
three kings, Louis XIV, XV and XVI.
Day 10: Sunday, May 31 Departure from Paris and return to the U.S.
