Jaisalmer is about as far west as most people get in India. It’s incredibly dry, hot, and isolated. So what is it that brings people to a city a stone’s throw away from the Pakistan border? The ‘ Golden City’ has come to be known as a majestic place. A huge fort sits atop a hill in the center of the city, overlooking the sun-kissed houses. If you want to stay in this city then choose Hotel Saira fort Jaisalmer this is one of the best hotels in the golden city.
There are so many great things to do in Jaisalmer, and we know you’ll love it just as much as we do! Here are some of our favorite things to do in the Golden City.
Explore the Jaisalmer Fort
Start your exploration of Jaisalmer at the fort. It's a huge fort, and it's hard to miss. It's perched on a hill in the center of the city, and it's one of the most majestic places you'll ever see.
The fort is so big that you could spend an entire day exploring it and still not see everything. There are so many different nooks and crannies to explore, and each one offers a new view of the city. So make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to wander around.
Take a Camel Safari in the Thar Desert
When in Jaisalmer, you absolutely must go on a camel safari through the Thar Desert. It's an amazing way to see the landscape and get a feel for the remote area. Plus, it's just really fun!
The camel ride will take you through some of the most beautiful parts of the desert, and you'll get to see things that are impossible to see any other way. You'll also get a chance to learn about the local culture and meet some of the people who call this remote area home.
Visit the Mandir Palace
You absolutely must visit the Mandir Palace while in Jaisalmer. This imposing fort, perched atop a hill in the center of the city, is one of the most majestic places you will ever see. From the top, you have a panoramic view of the entire city and the stark desert landscape that surrounds it.
The palace is well-known for its intricate carvings and colorful mosaics. As you walk through its hallways and chambers, you feel as though you are transported back in time to an era of opulence and extravagance. Make sure to spend some time exploring the palace complex—it's well worth it!
See the Jaisalmer War Museum
The Jaisalmer War Museum is one of the most unique museums I've ever been to. It's located in an old haveli, and it's all about the history of the Jaisalmer Fort.
The museum covers the history of the fort from its construction in the 12th century to its role in World War II. There are interactive exhibits, and you can even go up to the roof for a great view of the fort.
If you're interested in history, or even if you're not, I highly recommend visiting the Jaisalmer War Museum. It's a great way to learn about the city and its past.
Enjoy a Sunset at Gadisar Lake
Gadisar Lake is a cool and serene spot in the city and is the perfect place to watch the sunset. The lake was built by Raja Rawal Jaisal, the first ruler of Jaisalmer, and was once the main source of water for the city.
Nowadays, it’s a beautiful spot to take a stroll, relax by the water, or watch the sunset. The lake is surrounded by temples and has a number of ghats (steps leading down to the water) where you can sit and enjoy the view.
If you’re visiting Jaisalmer during October-March, you might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of migratory birds like flamingos, pelicans, and cranes.
Shop for Traditional Arts and Crafts
Jaisalmer is famous for its traditional arts and crafts, and shopping for these is a must-do when you're in the city. You'll find everything from carved wooden boxes and puppets to colorful textiles and silver jewelry.
