Dear Teacher or Parent,Welcome to our latest compilation of the best of the best, thecream of the crop, the piece de resistance–The Best of Holidays& Seasonal Celebrations (for grades 1-3, Issues 18-21). This lat-est addition to our popular series is packed with the most cre-ative and most fun ideas, as well as the best skill-based repro-ducible we could find.

As in the past, the criteria was the same–take the very bestmaterials from the past year’s issues of the magazine and turnthem into a single, easy-to-use classroom resource. We think youwill be quite pleased with what we’ve come up with, and we want tothank every author, illustrator and teacher who contributed to oursuccess. Without you, none of this would be possible.

On a different note, the process for compiling this book has beena little different, as we had to do it without the guidance andinput from our leader and publisher, Don Mitchell. Sadly, Donpassed away in February. Don, and his wife, Judy, started theTeaching & Learning Company five years ago with the creation ofHolidays & Seasonal Celebrations. They wanted very badly tocome up with a magazine that was a little different and a littlebetter, and after many long meetings and discussions, Holidays &Seasonal Celebrations was born. Those meetings and discussionswere ongoing over the years as we strived to make each issue alittle more creative and a lot more useful. Don will be missedevery time an issue of the magazine is put together and everytime we start discussing another “Best Of.” However, his legacycontinues as his guidance and knowledge will shine through inevery issue. He taught us well, and although we miss him everyday, he will always be with us and with all of you whenever you usea product from the Teaching & Learning Company in your class-room.

Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your day.

Red and yellow, gold and brown—

Leaves come down all over town!

I love to pile them with a rake,

Or watch them sail across the lake.

Soon all the trees they’ve left are bare

Without a single leaf to wear.

But not for long. Next thing you know,

They’ll all wear brand-new coats of snow!
