On Wednesday evening September 4th, we will have a very special program following sup-
per. Lisa Ramsey, our youth director, and our youth will be presenting the program for us. They
will be sharing more about their summer mission trip to Atlanta. This mission totally changed the
lives of our youth and it was an experience that they will not quickly forget. Make plans now to
join us for that special evening of fellowship and hear more about this remarkable youth mission.
On Wednesday evening September 11th, we will have another special dinner and
program. This particular evening we will be honoring our First Responders. Our church will spon-
sor a Patriot Day Recognition Dinner beginning at 6:30p.m. The program following the dinner
will be my friend who is currently a member of the Centerville Police Department,
Mr. Phillip Pritchett. Plan to join us for supper and the special program as we express our heart-
felt thanks to our First Responders.
On Wednesday evening September 18th, we will begin a new Bible study entitled, “The
Fruit of The Spirit”. Our starting time for the study will be 6:45p.m., finishing time will be no lat-
er than 7:15p.m. I look forward to this time with you as we look again at what it takes for us to
bear “much fruit”. This series will assist us as we endeavor to be more effective in our
discipleship. I look forward to all of these opportunities to fellowship and
grow spiritually.
Grace and Peace,
Bro. John

CONNECT with OTHERS….CONNECT with GOD….CONNECT with LOVE
We are excited to announce a new paradigm for our children’s department, entitled the Work-
shop Rotation Model. Based educationally on Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelli-
gence, this model promotes the study of the Bible through multi-dimensional learning experi-
ences. Each workshop utilizes a particular learning style for its approach to the lesson. Over
the course of six weeks, children come to know the Bible and God through a variety of ways
such as music, drama, art, science, storytelling, games, and cooking.
Research shows that we do not learn in isolation. Opportunities to make connections in learn-
ing need to be provided for it to be meaningful. The Workshop Rotation curriculum provides
experiential activities, mission projects, and intergenerational opportunities that help children
make meaningful connections from the Bible to their daily lives.
Children are divided into age appropriate groups that rotate to an assigned workshop. Teach-
ers stay in the same place and teach the same lesson for the duration of the unit. For instance,
group one may visit the art workshop the first Sunday, the game workshop the second Sunday
and the music workshop on the third Sunday. The rotations continue until age groups have
experienced all the workshops.
Teachers have one lesson to prepare for their workshop, with small adjustments made to ac-
commodate specific age groups. Adults can plug into the curriculum units that appeal to their
gifts and talents. Commitments by teachers to the program are for three-week stints.
Plans have been made for remodeling the classroom environment for each workshop. Our
goal is to have this new program in place by January, 2014. Volunteers will be needed to imple-
ment these changes. Please be willing to lend a hand as we make these improvements for our
children’s department.

A Note from Jim
There are times when life for all of us can seem like a desert. What I want and need most in my life is to
be recharged and energized as a result of a new awareness of God's love for me! Otherwise, how can I
serve God most fully, the best way, unless I'm animated, recharged, and electrified by a moment-by-moment awareness of His love for me? Otherwise, how can I give the water of life to others, from an emp-
ty well? Just the thought of it renews me! I want to understand more every day how much God loves me.
Will I ever find the limits of that? "Jesus Loves Me" is the most adult song I know! Without a firsthand
knowledge of His love my life will never know His fullness. That's where it all starts. I want the faith, the complete peace, and the fullness of joy that comes with knowing what that love is, and living in it! I want the truth in my heart
to match the truth in my head! I love the praise chorus, "Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, I want to see You!"
This is my hope for our choirs as we launch into our Fall program! I rejoice that through music we can gain fresh
insights into His love for us!
On Wednesday, September 4th, both the Handbell and Sanctuary Choirs will resume regular rehearsals, and I’m ex-
cited about a new beginning! The Handbell Choir will rehearse at 5:15 p.m., ringing new music for the Fall season.
We are praying for enough ringers to bring all four octaves of our bells back into play at every rehearsal. Then at
7:30 p.m. the Sanctuary Choir will be taking their first peek at our Christmas musical, Bethlehem Morning. We’ll also be rehearsing fresh, exciting music for the coming Sundays, and enjoying fellowship and delicious bagels! This
is not an exclusive club; if this avenue of service appeals to you, the door is open! We’d love to have you!
Your Friend and Minister of Music,
Jim

Bible Verse of the Month
“ To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance."
