- third time undefeated champions! Great news.
Congratulations to James Ford (5T) and Hugo Willington(5K), who
represented NBPS on Saturday night in the Northern Suburbs Tennis
Association (NSTA) Primary Schools Challenge (PSC). They played
several doubles round robin matches against a number of other
primary school teams and were awarded medals for Runners-Up in
their division. Great match play and great sportsmanship from both
boys!
Netball NewsA Team
Today we played Willoughby and had a great game. The overall
score was 31-6 our way. I would like to give a special mention to
Chloe Minnett (6K) for doing some awesome shooting. Also, well done
to our team this season as we remain undefeated. Player of the
match was Anastasia Kellahan (6C) for being fast on her feet and
for her incredible shooting.
Written by Captain Lucy Longworth (6K).
C1 Team
The ball circles the hoop (gasp) and falls off side, green ball,
throw, catch! Our team played wonderfully today. We were playing
against Greenwich at 1:00pm on Court 17 and it was an awesome game.
We were always in front by a few points and ended the game with a
bang! The final score was 5-2 our way. We also had an unexpected
number of players away, so Tara Owens from the C2 Team stepped in
and played great! The players of the match were Jaida Gwilliam (6R)
and Alex Matterson (5T).
Written by Captain Jade Buchanan (6S).
C2 Team
Bang! The siren went off. We are reporting live at Willoughby
Leisure Centre while C2 are playing Anzac Park Public School. I am
your Captain Charlotte Baumer-Rowley and I am here to say that the
C2 team need to work on our passing and communication. The score
was 25 to 9 their way. The players of the match were Penny MacGill
(6K) and Scarlett Adamson (6K) for their excellent passing and
shooting.
Written by Captain Charlotte Baumer-Rowley (5R).
Congratulations to Otto and Milena Jandera who represented
Neutral Bay PS on Saturday night in Div A of the NSTA Primary
Schools Challenge and went through undefeated without dropping a
game to win their pool. Fantastic result!

Sports NewsD1 Team
Today D1 played against Beauty Point on Court 3 at 1:45pm. It
was an amazing game and the score was 4-4. We improved on passing
and intercepting. But, we still need to work on our shooting. The
players of the match were Angelina Yu (6C) and Valentina
Loon-Pangoni (5M) because they always tried their best and they
ended up playing very well. Overall, it was a fantastic game. D1
have had a great season.
Written by Captain Sakura Yamada (6S).
D2 Team
Whoosh! The ball streams through the air. The half time siren
had just gone off. Centre dashes through the air and passes within
a millisecond. 6-1 is the score. But, now it's 7! You just scored
for your team. Today D2 played amazingly, with a score of 13-1 our
way. We excelled in using a variety of passes, but struggled to
space out. The players of the match were Chloe Moore (5R) and
Jocelyn Wang (5T). They were both terrific at making good decisions
about who to pass to and had great sportsmanship. Netball 2017 for
D2 was fun and intriguing for the whole team. This season we won
all of the games bar one. It has been fun.
Written by Captain Tiffany Low (5K).
Boys TeamThe whistle blew. For a second the court was silent
except for the squeals of protest coming from the players shoes.
Today, Neutral Bay's Boys Team had a close game against Mosman. We
lost by 1 point, with an end score of 5-6 their way. Player of the
match was tied between Pavle Hornby (6C) for his great first week
back. Although a bit rusty, he played well for his first week back.
The second player of the match was Hugo Willington (5K) who had
great interceptions and was always ready to receive the pass.
Although we need to work on our passing and not lobbing, it was a
great season for the boys overall!
Written by Captain Joel Gaynor (6C).

Kindergarten Teachers
Kindergarten NewsKindergarten really enjoyed celebrating Book
Week last Friday. Everyone dressed up as their favourite book
character and then we spent the day rotating through a variety of
literacy activities that included making a book mark, making a
class flip book and doing some craft related to a story. We enjoyed
parading around Kindyland in front of our friends. We also enjoyed
reading some of our favourite picture books and listening to some
of the books that were short-listed by the Children’s Book Council.
It was a really fun day!

‘Escape to Everywhere’ was the theme for Book Week this year and
Year 1 got into the spirit. We spent time reading our favourite
books to each other and dressed up as our favourite book character.
On Friday, Year 1 participated in a range of activities that
focused on the theme throughout the day. We love reading!
Stage 2 News (Years 3 & 4)
Miss J. Hudson - 4H Class Teacher
4H have been learning different comprehension strategies this
year. Last week we learnt how to summarise a text, which is a
really helpful skill when reading non-fiction texts. We paired up
and read different information reports, then using the ‘Key Word
Strategy’ we wrote our own summary of the text.
Ludwig van Beethoven
Ludwig van Beethoven was a famous composer and talented
musician. He composed music while he was losing his hearing and
when he composed his last pieces he was completely deaf. His main
instrument was the piano.
Beethoven was born in Germany and later he moved to Vienna where
he continued to compose music. Beethoven realised he had trouble
hearing when he was 28. He couldn’t hear high notes, and buzzing
noises hurt his ears. The fact that he had trouble hearing made him
sad. His friend, who was an inventor, made ear trumpets for him.
The ear trumpets helped him hear better for a while, but when he
turned 50 he was completely deaf and the ear trumpets were useless.
Today Beethoven’s songs are still famous all over the world.
Chanel Wang and Thomas Tran
Dolphins
Dolphins are related to whales. They are not fish, they are
mammals because they breathe air and give birth to live young.
Orcas (killer whales) are a species of dolphin. Scientists have
studied their body language and sounds. They communicate with
clicks, whistles and slapping fins. They also jump to communicate.
Touching fins is just like us shaking hands or hugging. When a calf
is born, the mother whistles for days so they know their mother’s
sound. A group of dolphins is called a pod. Each pod has a
different sound and language.

Stage NewsStage 3 News (Years 5 & 6)
Miss K Keighran - 6K Class Teacher
Year 6 has been researching various environmental issues this
term as part of our persuasive writing unit. In the last fortnight
we investigated endangered animals and wrote some paragraphs to
give reasons as to why they must be protected.
It is vital to know that species that are top-end predators play
an important role in lowering the populations of herbivores. The
majestic jaguar, in fact, stops pesky herbivores that quickly
reproduce from catastrophically over-populating our forests. If
near threatened key stone species like jaguars cease to exist in
the wild, our much needed flora would decrease as the existence of
herbivores rapidly increases. The natural diet of plant eaters
thankfully supply not just humans with oxygen and food, but support
for the earth’s soil. In point, to ensure balance to our ecosystem,
we need to protect keystone species for a sustainable future.
By Rosie Skinner 6K
Obviously, we also need to protect our natural clean-up crew to
avoid spreading disease. For example, the ferocious Tasmanian Devil
eats rotting carcasses left by other carnivores. This species is
endangered and over the past several years, has had its population
decline by 95%. If these extremely helpful animals become extinct,
our gorgeous lands will be filled with dead animals and smell
awful. We must protect nature’s clean-up crew so the diseases they
carry are not spread.
By Arabella Kingston 6K
Clearly, many endangered animals can help pollinate our forests.
One of these animals is the lemur. Tragically, 90 percent of lemur
species are threatened with extinction because their habitat is
being destroyed. The lemur helps to pollinate the forest, to keep
it healthy and growing. Many other animals like the lemur help
pollinate different environments and must be protected.
